He wrote this song when he was in his mid teens about his mother who abandoned him when he was a baby. He was holding on to the wishes of meeting her and getting a love he never received
And he never did. He met with her once or something She turned out to be a real piece of work
😳 😡
@@LetItBeSummer-1 sad
@@LetItBeSummer-1she tried to scam him . I believe she told she had cancer to get close to him. Just sad a parent can do that to their child.
Never new ❤ its not the same because the world loves ya. Need your mother
This comment is peeling onions in my vicinity.
I want my youth back! I want 1985 back and stay there forever!
That soft, "That's all I have to say" after that roar is brilliant. So good.
I love that part. The man said his piece!
Guys...They are still filling arenas...😘
Try Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Now...crazy vocals 🔥
It is a cover from original Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. A very excellent cover!!
Mick Hucknall Wrote this song at 19, and Simply Red went on to become an epic band with many hits…
That dude is soul!
Can't judge a book by its cover. Soul knows no bounds - race, colour, ethnicity or gender.
An often overlooked/forgotten MUST HEAR Classic,, Simply Red "Money's Too Tight To Mention" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
A cover but good one nonetheless
Not just a redhead, he's the ginger Otis Redding (for a couple of songs anyway). Voice as smooth as honey dipped in molasses.
I heard Smokey Robinson was his idol. I think you can hear that in his voice.
Otis Redding said he tried to make his voice sound like the trumpet 🎺. I can hear it in his voice for sure.
his name is Mick Hucnell and he has Many Great performances.
He has had thirteen studio albums, six compilation albums one extended play and fifty three singles, he continues to make music and perform. He also owns a successful vine yard in Italy and has stakes in several restaurants, he is also involved in property investments. Basically, he doing alright for himself 😊 He’s been a favourite of mine for about 40 years. To last that long in the music industry, he must be doing something right. 👍
Age has been kind to his voice. He's even better now.
Their fourth album Stars was immense it went multiple platinum all over the world , with about four or five singles released from it,
Love Simply Red!
This still sends a shiver right down my spine 40 years on ! Simply gorgeous !
Some of the best singers are from over the pond. I love you guys! Thank you for sharing this song.
I would put this on a Loop and listen to it all day long. When we first heard it we all thought he was Black (like Bobby Caldwell, Tom Jones, Righteous Brothers, Michael McDonald, Hall & Oates), but the “Blue Eyed Soul” came through. We didn’t know until years later the video came out. What a beautiful song, great lyrics, great arrangement, great images, I love it!….. SanJoséBob
He wrote this song when he was a kid, amazing.
I love Simply Red's performance of 'Stars' before a Russian audience when he was older. Magic !
This song is so affecting. Gets me in the feels.
This song brings me to tears
Lord have mercy im crying 😢😢😢 .. bring back memories ❤❤ one of my all time favorite songs ever!!!❤❤❤...when all you have is menories .. being 11 hearing this all the time thinking of family and friends and being young❤🙏
You have hear Money Too Tight, soul to the max.
This guy can really really sing ! Amazing performer as well . He's an Irish / English guy who is also a fabulous song writer 🔥🔥❤️
English born in Manchester England. Grandparents Irish on his mother's side.
Loved this song for nearly 40 years! It's one of those rare songs that every time I hear it it's like the first time. Pure magic!!!
✌❤🎶
This was really great! Simply Red's sound is so classy. Those scenes of castles in Ireland were awesome.
You guys mentioned Dion Warwick songs and Luther Vandross, that was very cool to find out. I remember hearing that Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees wrote the song "Heart Breaker" specifically for her. She turned it down a few times, having already recorded "Walk On By". She didn't want her image to appear to be too sad and gloomy. She later changed her mind and decided to record it, it was a Big hit for her. Much love to you guys. Love your channel.
Not a castle, it is Whitby Abbey ruins in North Yorkshire England.
He sounds just as good today, the vocal talent is insane.
He actually sounds better today.
His voice has turned a little raspier, but he still hits that beautiful high note.
Probably the best male blue-eyed soul singer you will ever hear!!! He does mostly originals, but a lot of incredible classic R&B covers. He is not a one-hit-wonder....he has several US hits, but her doesn't tour as much as he does in the UK, Europe and Australia. I saw him live in Los Angeles and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. There are many live performances on RUclips of him. His nickname is "Red" and his real name is Mick Hucknall. He is amazing.
Apparently so.
Amazing? Yes. Best blue eyed soul singer?
Naw...
Marc Broussard, Bobby Caldwell, Michael McDonald, Van Morrison, Bob Seger, Daryl Hall, Righteous Bros, George Michael, Amy Winehouse,...IMO, all better.
@@pluckinmageetar I love all those guys a lot, but I still think he's better than most of them except for Daryl Hall.
@@lamusiclover2264Yeah...NO.
@@joelspaulding5964 you're entitled to your own opinion. How much simply Red have you listened to? How many live performances have you seen of him? Just curious.
Beautiful voice I love his version of you make me feel brand new
There's nothing more relaxing then with some great Simply Red soothing music 🎵 on a Sunday night !!! ❤️ Thanks 👍❤❤
Love your appreciation of great music. Cool guys.
This bro can sing! Great song summer of 86. Fire!
buried wife, family, friends. thank God I lived it, wish I could hold onto it but is what is. Hope to see them all again (got some apologizin' to do, straight up included)
Simply red was massive, a national treasure here in the uk Mick, and the boys are so talented.
This was played at my dads funeral 😢 He loved Simply Red, and its definitely not their first song, please react to ‘if you don’t know me by now’ x
As a teen, liked the song. As an adult, love and appreciate it
The most charismatic and talented singer
Corey's beard alone is all the epic this video needs :) Great song!
Thanks YoreHistory. 🙂👍🏿 Appreciate it. -- Corey Roy
I'll keeeeeeep holding on, I'll keeeeeeep holding on, I'll keeeeeeep holding on, I'll keeeeeeep holding on.
Simply Red has a beautiful VOICE 😍 🤩 👌 ❤❤❤
Simply Red is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION 🎵🎶🎶You gotta check out a cover he does " If you don't know me by now"absolute fire.🔥Great reactions 💗
I agree. It's a beautiful heart-wrenching feel of a song.
Corey, just remember it is your wisdom that makes some people think you are older!!
I thought it was the beard
I interned at a radio station in San Francisco in college and I got to see this band and meet them when they toured with this album. They were phenomenal and very nice. Hit their song "Money's Too Tight (to Mention)" for more funkiness. Mick Hucknall's voice definitely has that blue-eyed soul vibe going on.
This is a remake, the original was released in 1982 by British punk band Frantic Elevators, which Mick Hucknall the lead singer of Simply Red fronted from 1979 to 1982.
The Frantic Elevators version is available on RUclips
They also have a hit called "Stars"
It is a group- please do not forget that, all band members are playing characters in this video. Check out their first single Money Too Tight To Mention. So relevant today in the UK.
They had a massive number of hits, very popular band back in the day.
I'm with ya Corey Ray, we're brothers from another mother we know great music when we hear it! 👍
Video filmed in Whitby on the Yorkshire coast. Lovely seaside town - fantastic fish & chips!
Another of their hits was 'Money's too Tight to Mention'. Up tempo funky jam.
Simply Red have loads of good songs. Check them out. Money's Too Tight to Mention is fantastic (you would love it!), Fairground is good, Stars is good....loads more.
Guys I encourage you to please go back and listen to their catalogue, they have some of the most soulful albums youwill hear,
Ollie made me laugh, he said he knew Dionne Warwick from the Psychic network. That shit brought memories.
They have much more than one song - Money's Too Tight to Mention, The Right Thing, Stars, You've Got It - etc
This is the one I listen to the least. The ones you listed are all jams.. I also love "Something Got Me Started", "For Your Babies", "So Beautiful", "Angel"
@@bossfan49 They're great! I do love Holding Back the Years - but absolutely these are JAMS!!!!
Oh my Lord, I forgot how much I loved loved this song! I got internal goose bumps hearing this song and I don’t care if he has red, white, pink or black soul? This Ginger Guy “Simply Got it.” He tore at my heart strings. Bless you. 💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓💓♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
So sad, any child who gets abandoned from the mother😢
This track is an all-time classic, I will never get tired of it. I loved your conversation about aging, but for real, one of the things I like about your channel is seeing people around my age holding it down on RUclips. That means a lot. And Olli, I hope you appreciate your good genes!
If you liked this, check out Simply Red. LIVE at Stafford, it is an entire concert, this song is on there, but check the first 10 minutes, the opening, it is so great, Mick is famous worldwide, is nearly 70 years old today and still playing concerts. He is very soulful, and no one can sing better, he is an amazing LIVE performer.
For a another great singer, this one from Ireland, give Van Morrison's "Into the Mystic" a try. A song than I can truly say can be truly transformative.
Van Morrison is the man - his catalogue is deep, deep, deep.
That’s my favourite Van Morrison song ❤
Fellas, the first time I heard Simpy Red's Holding Back The Tears was an episode of Miami Vice. Miami Vice used MTV music to play on their shows. Soulful Cat!!!
Lots of wonderful songs. Well worth some time diving into more.
Beautiful Soul!!!!
*Simply Red* - *_You've Got It_* amazing song
Video shot in Whitby? Looks like it.
I love this song . His voice is so amazing ! He hits that note !
Thank you for all your reactions. I really appreciate them. No, this is not Simply Red's only hit. They have a great catalog.
Perfectly representative of a MELANCHOLY SONG.
Fantastic song. I was a teen in the 80s - born 1970, and I remember this song getting a lot of airplay. Gives me the chills. But they didn't really have many hits that I can remember, other than that cover you mentioned. And I know what you guys are talking about with the age thing - it's the grays, which I'm fighting, too. My hair is more salt than pepper these days. Also, go Os!
Great song! Brings me back to my childhood in an instant!
I grew up in the seventies and I loved randb, metal, and hip hop but this is one of my favorite songs ever. No matter your age but it hits a little harder at my age lol. Great reaction.
They did a great cover of the Valentine Brothers - Money's too tight to mention, their first hit. They know their history.
Also had a hit with moneys to tight to mention, in my opinion was his best.
One of the best Bands of the 90's .You would love them Something Got Me Started, New Flame, so many.
Many children gere today because of their songs....😊💌
He has an incredible voice. You have to check out one of his live performances. It'll blow you away!
You dudes ain't old, your experienced! I'm 66 and my minds 21 but my body is 90. Still rocking !
You're my twin!!!
Mick Hucknell, lead singer is still doing concerts, including with a symphony orchestra . Still popular as ever and a very nice guy
Please react to,
Money's too tight to mention
Fairground
Stars
New flame
Recent live performances are welcomed!
He had several top 10 hits all over the world, yes … “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” from him is legendary, before every time he sing it, he thanks “the Late Teddy Pendergrass” for the Song., Please ….listen to his version.
They are HUGE in UK and Europe with many hits. You really should check out their live videos. They KILL.
And here in Australia!
First like, first comment, Red was one of the stars of the 80s for sure.
He got many hits, If you don't Know me by now, Stars,Money's too tight,Something got me started
Hi Guys. Thanks for another great video/reaction. Another good Simply Red song to check out (they have a few) is "Money's too tight to mention". As for Dione Warwick - I love her, just a few of her songs you might want to check out are: Heartbreaker, Walk on by, Do you know the way to San Jose?, I'll never fall in love again and I'll never love this way again.
Simply Red live in Sydney is amazing. My favorite of their songs is Sad Old Red.
All before 1990 is where the real music is
Well done lads great reaction video no stop start stop start so we can enjoy the song in full all the discussion is at the end looking forward to more of reaction videos
I keep holding on. Damn. ❤️❤️❤️✌️
Great reaction y'all...always fun to come into your channel and not 1 ...not 2 ...but 3 great comments on the music!
Nicely done, gents. Like so many others I really enjoyed this one. Thank you.
Stars was a massive hit, but Picture Book is one of the most amazing albums, my favorite of 1985, maybe? My most listened to of that year, for sure. I was 12 when it came out.. bought it on cassette tape.. repeat rewind, all year long..
I'm an 80's kid which means i'm 50 and this was n still is one of my favorite songs. I'm a NY kid Hip Hop was all my stuff then, but thank u to MTV and all the videos and different music, or i would not know any other great music from around the world growing up.
another example of great talent from across the ocean that made amazing music but never had the same level of appreciation in North America - there is so much talent out there -- thanks for keeping your minds open
Thank you for reacting to this song. I’ve been waiting a long time for you too. I love this song. Glad you loved it.
Simply Red had at least 10 songs in the UK Top 10. "Holding Back the Years" didn't win the GRAMMY, but it did win ASCAP Pop Music Awards for Most Performed Song, which is pretty cool.
You also need to listen to AL Stewart Year of the Cat. He's got a smooth voice, too.
Thanks for this reaction. I've always loved this song and his amazing voice. ❤
They have a song called Stars!! That was my Jam!!!!! I know yall will enjoy it!! Great Reaction 👍🏾
Mick Huttnell has one of the best voices ever check out his version of you make me feel brand new its amazing
One of their songs that’s another favorite of mine is “So Not Over You”.
Great song! Great memories! Also "The right thing" or "Moneys too thight to mention" from Simply Reds catalouge are worth a try!🤗
That voice with this song…just incredible
LOL, two old guys and the young guy. Love you guys!
