Ill probably get some flak for this, but I think this chapter lays the consent thing to rest. As important as consent is in a variety of modern issues its generally a mistake to insert these issues in an artists intentions. Denji "consents" non verbally...which I understand is unacceptable in some corners, but this was Fujimoto's purpose with 167...Denji was falling apart over his needs, and the perosn threatening to cut it off, kissed, held and made him feel like a human being. The trauma is what it would be for anyone in his situation, the apparent murder of his family and home. Asa/Yoru...though messy, is a an awkward releif from that from Denji's perspective. "Post nut clarity" if you will. Barem is interesting here. He isnt the only scumbag. Nail murdered a child, Katana man killed a great many people, so did Quanxi, and their innocent death record is probably comparable to Barems...hes just more hate-easy for us because it was people we cared about...or really Denjis family, his dogs. The other weapons were ready to commit severe atrocities after we spent time getting to know sword. I think there is a theme here to the weapons (and I dont know why, but I keep thinking Yoru may have been their original creator) where they are also carried by events and behave in ways beyond their own control. Barem may have even saved Nayuta (after trying to get her killed...he is insane to us so far)for all we know...though I doubt it.
Part of me expected a character return and part of me expected a chill sushi chapter, and I'm very happy with what we got. There's a lot to expect in the upcoming chapters I'm super excited
I think you were reaching extremely hard with the opening minutes rant. I think it’s cut and dry. I lost my virginity later in life and was doing other things to fulfill my needs. When I finally lost it I had similar thoughts. “So this is what it’s like. This is what couples were doing. That felt amazing people were doing this the whole time getting off with each other.” Funnily enough I had the same thought of “using my hand still felt good but..” that brings me to my conclusion that this isn’t a rea trauma thing. It’s a coming of age thing. Even though life is bad like he said, it felt good. He’s only human too. And it does feel good. Even when we lose someone or bad things happen to us it still feels good. Just like how food still tastes good. I do believe at the heart of chainsaw man the manga is about a boy who, no matter what messed up world he exists in, he is still a boy, a human, with human desires. I think the show may end when he actually loses his V.
I was literally thinking the same thing, he was reaching hella hard with that innocence thing and the fact that he was "forced" this guy denji liked it and was into it too😊
The last panel of 167 was 100% an evangelion reference. This chapter’s extensive use of hand imagery reminds me of the “what is your hand for?” Part of evangelion. I feel that there definitely is some sort of inspiration here.
Barem is the GOAT, great to see him again. But the Denji introspection was pretty great. Really enjoyed the analysis. With the hands and with fuji’s writing of Denji.
Finished reading this chapter and my goodness the PNC (🥜) that Denji had after his encounter with Yoru was very prevalent. He's having all kinds of things going through his mind but the biggest is just confusion especially when he's looking around the restaurant. I thought it was sad what he told Pochita as well. Also, Nobana's words about Asa gave me a laugh. I hate the fact that Barem is still alive, but I'll see where this goes as things progress. Seeing Denji about to annihilate him was awesome until he said he knew where Nayuta was which I'm sure he only said it to get away from public safety. As usual, seeing Fami scarf down the food and trying to talk to Asa was funny. She was the best part of this to me 🤣
I think the only thing part 2 is missing is a main antagonist. Would love it if Fujimoto pulls a Diamond is Unbreakable and gives us a well crafted villain like Yoshikage Kira for the final stretch. And I have high hopes that he will! But whoever it ends up being, whether it’s fake Chainsawman or some twist villain, it’s hard to see them surpassing Makima. I think I’ll always prefer a more looming and present villain over whatever is going on here.
It actually is the point of part 2 to not have a main vilain. It s about différent sides who want to use csm to face an upcomming apocalypse. Public safety anbodied by yoshida and csm church anbodied by baruem. I agree however that I would love a bit less mystery going on, it s been long, and some more yoshida info would be nice. I m loving how different it is to part 1 !

So yeah obviously he wants to die because he was sexually assaulted
