    Very interesting and as usual fantastic quality video, a pure joy to watch. Also I love the "human emojs" ! I too would be very interested to see an episode with this back on film Hasselblad, especially to see if these older lenses (both H- and 503- lenses) holds up against the 100mPixel back. And does the adapter you showed that converts the focal length keep or even better the lens sharpness (in the 33*44 crop). Last but not least; I would find it very interesting to see an episode where you talk about your printing. Pro for 35yrs here. I have had mine since just yesterday and I have a few observations already - the contacts on the top of the CFV are a new addition and allow the use of a strobe or trigger - and it was in the box when it came so props to Hass for this addition - this is good - the new shift button on the side is very handy for adjusting +/- exposure - much better than the old way on the CFV50c - the new catch, once the strobe attachment is in place, means it is even harder to accidentally separate the back from the body ie its tricky to remove - this is a good thing - the files are much bigger and unless you have a card inserted you will never get J-Pegs - means it is slower to transfer as RAW files and indeed 100mp files are bigger - especially when remote operating - I use IPad Pro with the camera usually an inch above a stream and upside down - or a long remote boom pole looking down - still quick though - lastly I thought I would mention file and overall quality - I am still not sure it is good as as my old H6D100c - however` the pitfalls of that system are numerous - and this should not be seen a as a replacement (even though I have) but a sidestep for convenience and portability -- if you are in the UK give Clifton Cameras a ring - I got mine the second they had it - and I think I was the first UK customer to get my mits on one - do I love it? No. I adore it - it is delightful.

    Math, I just discovered one more difference between this camera and the X2D. If we choose aperture priority and auto-ISO, the 907X CFV100c would choose a higher ISO and faster shutter speed when compared with the X2D. Hasselblad is aware of the lack of IBIS and is trying their best to reduce the effect of camera shake.

  • @mhc2b

    I own the X2D with XCD lenses as well as a 501CM camera with prism & 4 Zeiss lenses. I would love to see you do a comparison using the CVF 100c back on a 500 series body against the 907x with the same CFV 100c back attached. Am curious as to how well the older Zeiss lenses do compared to the XCD line-up using the same 100 mpx digital back.

    Thank you for the comprehensive review. I am thinking this is the ultimate carry along camera for landscapes amongst other uses. What holds me back from purchasing it is 1- no ibis and 2- lenses. A tripod would be necessary for quality this camera can deliver however it defeats the purpose of the tiny size. But, it is a beauty, Hasselblad certainly understands camera design, similar to Leica they put great things in a compact design.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your nice comment. I love this camera already. In normal light, you never need a tripod. And with that sensor you can go high in ISO and still get clean images after post. And if you go for blue hour or night photography, you are beyond 10sec exposure time and will need a tripod with or without IBIS. So for me the case is clear, I keep this camera and enjoy it :)

    Thanks for this great overview. Do you think a portable EVF, like the visoflex, will be made available for the 907x system (for those super sunny days when it is hard to see the screen), now that it has a hot shoe?

    • @mathphotographer

      Not sure but would be great of course. The EVF on the X2D is a good argument for the X2D itself of course, plus IBIS which you don't have on the 907X CFV 100c.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the positive feedback. The V-system exists for a long time at Hasselblad, their legacy medium format film cameras are called the "Hasselblad V System Film Cameras"; see here: www.hasselblad.com/v-system/907x-cfv-100c/ My best guess is that the "C" in "CFV" stands for "Compact", the "V" for the digital continuation of the legacy "V-System" and the "F" stands for "Field", at least that's what I believed so far. But honestly, good question and I can only guess :) Maybe someone else knows better or can reach out to Hasselblad to ask how they came up with "CFV" :)

    1) on 2 occasions (1 yesterday and other today), the software got stuck displaying “Shutting down” with power light on. I had no choice but to remove the battery. Have you experienced this?
    2) I fiddled with the menu and now when I take a photo, the displayed photo is much darker than the composed photo, any hint of why that is?
    3) is there a way to rotate 90 degrees the image prior to releasing the shutter? I cannot rotate the display.

But when I take the pics, the pixels don’t show and come out perfectly fine. I don’t have another lens to compare with, what could be the issue? Is it dust? Or something more sinister?

    Very useful - thank you. The big question is - can it provide an economical alternative to the Phase One IQ4 digital back and previous iterations without loss of quality (but obviously the sensor will be capturing images at 100 instead of 150mp). Mounted onto Alpa, Arca Swiss or Linhof should determine if the new Hasselbald back can deliver the same standard of architectural and product photography - now that would amount to a really interesting video if you are up for it?

      I whole-heartidly agree with abowbelski!

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks - this is a more complex project you are suggesting here but for sure very interesting. What is clear by now is that the Hasselblad H6D is no longer needed although there is one feature the H6D has that never made its way into the X2D and that's the "True focus" feature which is an immense help when shooting human beings. Phase One IQ4 offers natively 50 MP more since the native resolution is 150MP. And the sensor in the IQ4 is larger than the sensor in the X2D and CFV 100c so you can become even more creative with a shallow depth of field.

    • @camoflag100
      @camoflag100 5 месяцев назад

      As you cite, the Phase One IQ4 shines in so many ways. However, Hasselblad’s 100mp is a sweet spot which cleverly straddles the divide between enthusiasts and high-end professionals who can now own a piece by this celebrated brand at ‘a sixth of the price.’ Moreover, the enticing form will leave many weak at the knees. All things considered, there is a quiet revolution going on here and it looks like Hasselblad are out to reclaim their crown. In my humble opinion, with a little more development they are on course to do just that.
      I can think of no one better to make this video so it’s over to you …..
      (Btw - Having just watched the most recent Hasselblad marketing video, a Linhof Techno makes a guest appearance coupled to the CFV 100C).

      Hi Sergio, I don't think so to be honest. The reason is that the previous camera versions (X1DII and 907X CFV II 50c) have only contrast detection autofocus and not phase detection autofocus. For face recognition it is important to have the phase detection autofocus technology implemented. That's why I believe that face recognition is only available on the newer cameras (X2D and 907X CFV 100c).

      Hasselblad X and V systems are leaf shutter systems so the shutter is sitting in the lens. No focal plane shutter in the camera or digital back. Electronic shutter though is implemented but suffers a bit from rolling shutter effects if you have fast moving subjects in the scene.

Also the optic finder bracket attaches onto the 907X not the CFV100c as you may have suggested. I have the new lenses and the new 100c but not the optic finder so I have no way of knowing if you can mount both the viewfinder and the flash bracket at the same time - I expect you can though - but a strobe or trigger might prevent practical use of either!!!!!

    I would be curious as to who manufactures lenses for Hasselblad nowadays, my guess is it is Fujifilm. In the past it was Carl Zeiss and some not so well received by Hasselblad uses was Rodenstock.

    i have the 50c can i get face detection on that camera now?

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад

      No, highly likely not. Face recognition relies on phase detection autofocus which the X2D and CFV 100c have but not the X1D(II) and not the 50c. The latter mentioned have only contrast detection autofocus which is slow and not so capable. So I doubt that Hasselblad will implement face recognition on the 50c or the X1D(II).

    Since I have the 907X & CFV II 50C already, and just want to upgrade to CFV 100C, can I just buy the CFV 100C Digital Back only rather than buy the complete 907X & CFV 100C instead?

      Good question, I have not seen the digital back selling stand-alone so far. Maybe a good question to address to Hasselblad.

      No you cannot - but to be fair the 'frame' is not the expensive part - although I have seen a few on Ebay - so you could do just that - one thing to mention is that new frame is identical to the one sold with the 50c - I got my 100c yesterday and use both 500 and digi systems

    Hi, what’s the difference between hasselblad 907x and x2d 100c………..(I just got into cameras)

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад

      Hi, welcome to the Hasselblad topic and to my channel :) The X2D is a traditional medium format camera with an Electronic View Finder in the same way as many other digital cameras. The 907X CFV 100c is a traditional setup where a digital back (the CFV 100c) is mounted on a small camera body (the 907X) to get connected with a lens. The digital back can also be mounted on older film roll camera bodies from Hasselblad or on technical view cameras where you can shift the lens parallel to the image plane. I know, this sound a lot like technical mumbo jumbo but there really is a totally different concept underlying the respective cameras. Maybe I should do a video on this topic :)

    I like your videos a lot but unfortunately you can see nothing in these sample images. You cannot see the image quality, dynamic range etc. of that great camera, when you edit and show them like you did. These images could also been shot with a Canon or a Sony or something. Imo it would be better if you would show unedited images without any animation. Maybe a screencast in Capture One or Lightroom, where you show the full frame and then zoom in to see what the sensor and lenses really delivers. I hope that helped. Looking forward for your next videos.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  4 месяца назад +2

      Thank you Fabian, fully understand. As said in the video, the image quality of the X2D and the new CFV 100c are the exactly same. That's why I said in the video that I quickly show sample images from the X2D - since the 907X just came in and I had not taken any images with the new camera yet. If you screen my channel, you will find lots of X2D videos where I did exactly as you proposed: showed the images in LRC full frame and then cropped in :)

    As an owner of a Hasselblad 503cw film system ‘back in the day’, I appreciate the aesthetics of this - but the design compromises are just too great, compared to modern fully integrated bodies. I no longer shoot film, and the modular flexibility this provides isn’t something I want or need. A beautiful item, but not for me. 😊

    I'm bit disappointed we didint get ibis with this camera. I feel like they should have included it, being digital back doesnt make it imposible to implement ibis.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  5 месяцев назад +1

      If you compare this digital back with any other digital back, its way off superior even without IBIS. In normal light, you are fine. Shooting with high ISO hand-held is fine with this sensor too and after post the images will be clean and sharp. And exposures longer than 1sec will need a tripod anyway, even if IBIS would be incorporated. So for me its clear, I love this new camera, will shoot and enjoy it :)

    Identical body. Just the caps are new…?
    The DigiBack holes are likely a heat vent. Metal body.
    What really concerns me is the image. The sensor offers nothing over a Leica SL2.
    The lesser "medium format/not medium format) sensors are disappointing.
