It seems that Hasselblad has joined the camera gear masses by doing the full RUclips influencer roll out of their new product. They were in rarified air for decades but you gotta do what you gotta do to survive these days. However Matt, this was by far the best and most interesting review of that camera of the few I've seen whether or not you have any interest in the camera. Beautiful review of not just the new camera (well, 907x isn't new, but the CFV 100C digital back is!), but the beautiful location, traditions, people, and your journey in Bhutan!
When the Hasselblad 907x, and with the original CFV II 50C digital back, was released some years ago, it was a niche but simultaneously a game changer for portable medium format fun photography!
It didn't get much traction, but was well loved by those in the know.
Now, after some years, we have the CFV 100C, matching many of the specs from the more traditionally designed Hasselblad X2D alongside other useful upgrades.
No image stabilisation for the CFV digital backs mentioned, but this style of photography is markedly different usage case vs X2D; still, street, and landscape, vs moving and fast, respectively.
If I had the finances, I would have chosen the 907x with the original CFV II 50C, but now that's changed to the mighty CFV 100C!
    My dream camera system.

A great review and a reminder to all, that great photography is about gaining access to faces and places few ever get to see. Matt, your relationships and kind works in Bhutan have opened doors for you. I was in Bhutan recently and aimed to photograph many of the locations you describe in your video. However, you got to see so many things I couldn’t and didn’t have access too, so congratulations on a job well done. Finally, you show the halfway location to the Tiger’s Nest, so did you trek up there or ride a horse?

  • @borisgalos6967
    @borisgalos6967 11 месяцев назад +2

Nice back (and nice minimal camera) but I'd love to see Hasselblad work to produce a back that supports the old medium format choices like 60x45mm (645) and especially the classic 60x60mm (6x6) format they built their camera line on especially since they're putting the work in to allow the CFV 100C to work with the classic V series bodies.
The current 44x33mm format is only 70% more sensor area than 24x36mm "full frame 35mm" format.
By comparison, 645 is over three times the area and 6x6 is over four times the sensor area.

No ibis, no evf, average af performance at best, especially in low light. A Nikon or Sony full frame, or the Fuji GFX 100II, would have worked much better in those settings. I wasn't surprised there were almost no shots of the fire ritual shown. But I guess subpar camera performance was a compromise worth taking, to get the nice trip sponsored. @@mattgranger I just think its a bit strange that Hasselblad seems to want to position this digital back for this kind of photography. Thats really not what it is made for imo. It has other strengths, like integrating in the great Hasselblad legacy gear. Which you touch upon in your video. But if I was to take such a trip, like you did in the video, the 907 with digital back would be pretty much the last option id pick. The GFX100II would be a bit more viable, but really an A1 or Z8 makes a lot more sense.
As for the "lock ups". Ive had my GFX100II for a couple weeks now. I use it daily. Haven't had a single lock up or other kind of technical problem. The same goes for my colleague who shoots both GFX and Hassy. You were likely just unlucky with your copy.

@@mattgranger no, „pretty common“ is definitely not true. It seems a bit disingenuous that you would say that, as a Hasselblad „ambassador“ (I know it’s not an official title, but you’re a long time partner). The right term would be there are „rare occurrences“ of lock ups. Anecdotally. Just like there is anecdotal evidence of Hasselblad leaf shutters failing early. But you wouldn’t agree if I said that was a „pretty common“ phenomenon. I’m in a couple of Fuji online communities and message boards. One of the boards is a german Fuji board. Out of about two dozen active regular GFX users there, not a single person has had „lockup“ problems in the last couple years (and many of us have the 100s or 100ii, or both).

another damn body, and still no fast lenses. I had to dump Hasselblad because of this. I needed fast lenses, and they just weren't making them.

If it was a Sony we WOULD not only point out that it has no horizontal flipping option, no IBIS, no Eye-AF.... but we would also say it loud and clearly : How dumm !

I don’t think anyone is tossing up buying this vs a Sony Alpha.

My point is that they dont deserve the leniency, the veneration everybody submits to. If Sony and Canon 'wanted' to ventur into the (real!) Medium format, they would outperform Hasselblad in a hertbeat. The other way hardly at all. They don't deserve the total absence of REAL critique (plenty!).

@@mattgranger Meanwhile: Let's not be compliant and be as critical in detail to its lazy shortcomings AS IF they had Sony or Canon "medium"format competitors.

Every single photographer on youtube is making Hasselblad Videos. I found like at least 15 of you making the video about same camera and everyone upload the video at the same time. Creep and weird af.

Because they’re only allowed to release these types of reviews on a certain day//time.

Can’t release it before the product goes live. It’s the same for every brand
