Love my '22 CB500X. Perfect for my commute. Just changed the chain and sprockets and put new tires on. Went with Pirelli Scorpion Trail II's, and what a great upgrade. Feels better than new.
Great video. You are so right about the mind-set for smaller capacity bikes. I have the Honda Rebel 500 and tour on it too. Recently in Scotland, and making plans to go to Europe (Spain) as well. Just means getting the set up right. Comfy seat, good waterproof luggage and gear!
The rebel should be great for that. My girlfriend and I went on a three week camping trip from Denmark to Monaco on my Suzuki GT550 in 1979. No problems except halfway carburetor adjustments and a high speed front wheel puncture on the Autoroute on our way back. 500 cm³ is more than sufficient for touring. Enjoy your trip to Spain!
1st stop when it doesn't start like that is the battery terminals. I had the same problem going up the bumpy Hardknott Pass, the bike stuttered and stopped. Got it going again and got home, and it was just a loose terminal. As for the seat, I had a local upholsterer to just scallop a bit of foam out making the seat more level instead of the slight forward slope. It changed the bike immeasurably, even made the handling better, lowering the centre of gravity.
Looking for a replacement to my CB500X, as it got nicked earlier this month. Was looking at the 22-23 model CB, but i'm kinda coming round to the NX, despite the new styling. Lot of benefits to help me overlook the new front end.
It's funny. Booking a service in the middle of winter is never a problem. 🤔 The hot grips are great. It's always strange how they can be so much better than a lot of the standard manufacturers items. Love the fuel economy. 👍
Great vlog, I am thinking about one of these as I currently have a varadero 1000 for the last 6 years, lovely bike and a lot of bike for the money, but I use it for everyday journey to work and for a big bike it's not bad on fuel but I think the 500 might be the answer with the honda reliability. Thanks for the review
Hey Mr Fish. Great choice with the NX, I’m looking forward to watching your adventures. I’ve just bought a pair of rackless soft panniers, each hold 26L, and what they call a pannier bag, which goes on the rear rack or back seat, which is another 30L, from a brand called Rhinowalk. It’s also modular so you can add extra if needed. Great value for money, look like they’ll take a beating, and I’m currently watching an Aussie guy on RUclips called Joe Ryan who uses this luggage brand on his tour of New Zealand, mostly off road, on a RE Scram 411. Hope that helps!
Another great review/vlog. Bought the CBR500R (24 Plate), 560 miles in and 1st service due, currently 76mpg aswell. After a Hornet 750, I've found this to be a great bike, proof that 47hp can be very rewarding and a lot of fun!!
Only 76mpg, it'll get better than that! My 500x and 500f usually do 94 on b roads. It's does better mpg if I spin it up hard. I really loved the mix tours for all year round riding 72 miles a day. Problems... my f broke down at 310 miles with a failed eng temperature sensor. 😮
I've had my CB500F for about 10 months now and I love it It , least powerful bike I've owned since the 1990's and I can't believe how light and responsive the thing is. It's not fantastic on dual carriageways but I avoid those anyway and am lucky enough to mostly be able to do so and these days if you speed you're going to get caught sometime,.somehow. The days when there were no speed cameras and I could blast down the A38 at 110 on my Fazer down the outside lane for mile after mile are long gone ;-)
Thank you for another great video Mr. Fish. I wanted to recommend the Nelson-Rigg magnetic tank bag if you haven't got another one yet. I had one on my CB 500X that I unfortunately sold last year. It worked great and was very solid. Enjoy your NX500!
I found the Mixtour tyres excellent on the road. I’m currently trying Anakee Adventures which are also good. After two and a half years of riding and moto camping touring I have decided that I don’t need anything more off-road on the 500X. It manages all the off-road I actually do on it on the Mixtours and Anakee Adventures. For more extreme off-road I use my Voge 300 Rally anyway. It’s a great long distance touring bike. Mine has never been on a motorway, there are always better routes.
Oh! So you bought one! I’m glad. In my case I think I’ll go with Black Widow exhaust, my friends have the older CB500X, basically the same as the NX as you well know, and they sound awesome. And they’re quite a bargain. I did have a look at the Fuel like you’re having but it’ll come quite expensive for me since I’m not living in the UK. I haven’t got my NX yet, but I’ve already got a radiator cover for it. Mine is ordered with some extras like the extra lights, crash bars and heated grips. I’m adding a CarPlay unit which I’ve already have and contrary to you will be changing the tires to more road oriented ones as I don’t go off-road. I’m most probably going for the Michelin Power 6, a bit overkill I know but there’s not much with that 19” front.
Great Video, I've got them Tyre's on the CL500 Loaner I think they've been bloody brilliant in the dry and wet (but yes Tyre's are subjective), anyway nice update on the bike and look forward to seeing your 2 week tour later in the year :)
I feel your pain, I bought the 500 Hornet from P&H and booked the running in service when I picked it up as I do 600 miles commuting in 3 weeks. I liked the NX, when I test rode it I preferred the Hornet though I had to convince myself it was a better for my use case, especially after the V Strom I had previously which put me off tall adventure type bikes (I also got a lot of buffering on the NX and am only 5' 7") Have put handguards on mine, a fender extender at the front (the Hornet mudguard is ridiculously short at the front) and a hugger at the back, plus crash bungs from Powerbronze. Proper commuter now, just need to put a 16T front sprocket on to improve the MPG a bit.
You’re so right, it’s absolutely about mindset, I get so much fun out of my CRF250 Rally and my Grom. I honestly think I could sell my big bike and not miss it.
On my 2019 I put on the rear 150/70/17 & front 110/80/19 shinko 705's they handle much better on the tarmac than factory, have not been off road yet but those are a 70/30 tire people are getting well over 7-15,000 miles on these tires, they make them for so many different bikes ranging under 300-600 & over lbs lol
@@Mrfish2015 Yes. Very cheap now as they fall in between A2 and 'A' licence. Not powerful enough to use for the 'A' category. MCN put it at 57bhp for 1994 to 2003 years.
You fuel consumption surprised me. In May I bought a used SV650. During the first 8000 km it gave me 28.9 km/l. Including a two week camping trip from Denmark to Harz. Maybe you are a more aggresive rider? I've been riding motorcycles since 1974. I see 500 cm³ motorcycles as medium capacity. They are more than sufficient for what I want to do: Day trips, weekend rides and long summer camping trips to the south of Europe.
@@fs5866 The XL750P Transalp is a lot more manageable for me, and at 208kgs wet it's definitely a lot lighter than the Africa Twin. It is a slightly smaller bike, and therefore not so cumbersome. Win win...

Brilliant video as usual. I'm looking to buy a Super Cub and I'm wondering when we are going to see you on yours. What are the good and bad points about the bike. Keep up the great work.
Loving my 2022 CB500X, but thinking of an NX, maybe next year. The 500X is a great bike, so no grounds for complaint other than that the screen is hard t read and I would prefer one that can be controlled with switches from the handlebars. I use the stock luggage, and they're just fine for my purposes (alternate them with soft bags on occassion). I also have the SW Motech tank bag in place - works fantastic with the tank ring. I've been using a wind deflector since day 1 (brought over from my previous bike), and frankly wind buffeting is not an issue at all.
Great video! Read you have the dreaded engine management light on. Obd lives under my seat now as on 3k and the shitting thing comes on every 300 or so miles. Take a look at my clip as pleased with my mods. Just got a hyperpro rear shock which should improve ride. I came from Africa to CB500X, KTM790Adventure then the NX. Happy with all of them but would have killed myself on the KTM, bit of an animal compared to the NX.
All of my accessories are wired through a Healtech Thunderbox. It'll manage turning things off and on for you. Also gives circuit protection. The Honda 500s are just amazing value. Small capacity bikes are the future 😁
Good looking bike. I ride a KLR650 pretty much like your riding that one, back roads mostly. Most are paved but some are still gravel. I like it for my style of riding but I’m not getting anywhere near the fuel mileage you are
You do get used to less power. Not saying I don't miss it sometimes though. I went down from an MT09 to a KTM Duke 390. I like the look of these though.

do you need 50/50's on your tires? I would go for something like the Mutants for their road-biased yet still somewhat mildly capable off-road tread pattern.
Check with the discussions but i used to run a 180 on my ninja 650 when she was spec'd for 160. You could have the seat reshaped then recovered, i'm not in the UK but there's shops around that can carve a profile into the foam to fit your butt better
I do like the Honda 500s. I have the predecessor, a CB500X. I've found that the mileage gets even better. On the lanes I can see 90mpg. On a longer run of A roads and a bit of motorway it'll drop to 80pmg. I have the Honda heated grips on mine and Oxfords on my other bike. Oxfords are definitely way better.
Wait there is another video? Let me go see that first.... I"m back.... Great buy. Two weeks going somewhere... I hope you go to Scotland... Just my wish.... Having owned both a CB500X and an Africa Twin, they really are very different. One isn't better than the other. They are different. Comparing 471 to 1098 or whatever it was, is night and day when you twist the throttle. The 500X is way easier to ride in the city....
If you want some good knobbly tyres that work well on the road🤔on my 2020 500x I use Motoz tractionator adventure 150/17 on the rear & a Motoz tractionator dual venture tyre on the front(standard size). These tyres work well for 50/50 riding, not as soft as Tkc80s so you'll get much better mileage out of them👍
@Mrfish2015 fine when you break them in a bit in dry conditions. They don't slur on corners like Tkc's when hot, I swear by these tyres😉I had conti's for a while on mine, got 5000miles front, 4000ish miles out of rears, you can double that with Motoz tyres.
Honda has come out with their sport variant Africa twin with the 19 inch front wheel. A little less of a beast. Was that an option for you before you bought the 500? Cruise control is kind of a big deal if you’re touring.
I’ve just put mitas enduro trail plus on my cb 500x excellent grip on the road even with the 150 70 on the back and terrific off road and at £180 for the pair a bargain . The camping biker has done a thousand mile review on these tyres every thousand mile until he change them . Worth a look at his channel.
I was looking at these but worry about the lean angle, I’m running off the edges of the mix tours so want some edge grip too .. I may have to compromise as I hear good things about the mitas
@@Mrfish2015 I’ve had mine right on the edge with no problems they grip just as well as the trail max even when tipped in I was actually shocked at how good they are.
Can you make a comparison video with the cl500, in terms of handling, I heard that they are tuned a little different, what is your opinion on that ?, also does one feels any lighter than the other? Thanks for sharing this video 👍
Can you please tell me what model # of Barkbusters handguard mounting kit ( the metal part of the Barkbuster kit) you have on your bike? I see people saying the CB500X 2019+ kit or the 2023 Transalp kits work on this bike, I just don't want to make that gamble and get the wrong ones.
Hi Again, I'm thinking about getting rid of my 2018 CRF1000L Africa Twin, and replacing it with a XL750A Transalp, do you think that sound's like a sensible idea? I'm 68 years of age so I need to start riding a lighter and more manageable bike, but still do some adventure touring. I can get a cracking deal at the moment at my local Honda dealer, and have every conceivable extra thrown at it...😳👍
Be careful with the Fuel exhaust. I had one one on my 2022 cb500x but had to take it off as it was too long and got in the way with my shad hard luggage sh35. Now back with the std exhaust.
Great video! Btw, how are the ergonomics for a tall guy? You are 6'2 how do you fit on it, what's your knees angle ? I am 6'4 and ergonomics are a big issue for me especially on mid size japanease bikes. Given that I started considering maxi scooters, they are roomy and comfy. But maybe the NX will be something suitable. Cheers!
It was designed specifically for BMW GS riders after the Long Way Around. The idea was that the peak would catch the wind, lifting the rider's head up so they could look down their noses at other riders(!)
I suspect your heated grips might be the cause of your battery drain. I know they are meant to be intelligent and stop draw from the battery when the ignition is off but many have found them not to be fool proof.
I currently have a 2022 ATAS and when it was in for its big service I got a Nx 500 as a loaner. I couldn't go from my ATAS to a NX500, to much of a down grade for me.
Hi all, can anyone tell me what the bike like doing 110ks on a freeway I like the bike bike but i live in Australia and am a bit conerned the long highway runs will kill the bike

Jeez.. Those extra lights are GIANTIC 😁
I like bright lol
Check with the discussions but i used to run a 180 on my ninja 650 when she was spec'd for 160.
You could have the seat reshaped then recovered, i'm not in the UK but there's shops around that can carve a profile into the foam to fit your butt better
I would want a higher seat if I went down that route , I know 150 will fit
The bike is perfect same color as mine Mr Fishy boy hahaha! 👍👍😆😆
Good to know it gets better
So I'm thinking about moving up from my crf250 rally to the nx500 and you have made up my mind😅
Have both , the crf is 100 times better off road
Never going to be able to look at one of these again without thinking halfrica twin. They even do the decals for it. 😂
Then what's the transalp? Three-quartrica twin?
They should burn the decals 😂
@@tHaH4x0r😂
Is it fitted with the datatool tracker?
My NC750x used to give me a flat battery...until I disconnected the tracker ,never happened again.
No. , that’s what killed my africatwin
nice little baby Africa Twin you got there. Half-Rica Twin, I love it.
Shh 😂
Try a cool cover they are brilliant
I do like this bike and the Transalp
Wait there is another video? Let me go see that first.... I"m back.... Great buy. Two weeks going somewhere... I hope you go to Scotland... Just my wish.... Having owned both a CB500X and an Africa Twin, they really are very different. One isn't better than the other. They are different. Comparing 471 to 1098 or whatever it was, is night and day when you twist the throttle. The 500X is way easier to ride in the city....
100%
If you want some good knobbly tyres that work well on the road🤔on my 2020 500x I use Motoz tractionator adventure 150/17 on the rear & a Motoz tractionator dual venture tyre on the front(standard size). These tyres work well for 50/50 riding, not as soft as Tkc80s so you'll get much better mileage out of them👍
What are they like for edge grip on tarmac ?
@Mrfish2015 fine when you break them in a bit in dry conditions. They don't slur on corners like Tkc's when hot, I swear by these tyres😉I had conti's for a while on mine, got 5000miles front, 4000ish miles out of rears, you can double that with Motoz tyres.
Honda has come out with their sport variant Africa twin with the 19 inch front wheel. A little less of a beast. Was that an option for you before you bought the 500? Cruise control is kind of a big deal if you’re touring.
And africatwin with a 19” would never be an option .. that’s why I didn’t get one ..
I went Anlas Capra X but Mitas are superior.
Thanks mate. Had a go on one once she's a bit slow but a good choice for almost trouble free riding.
Yeah , no MOTO GP bike 😂
Can you make a comparison video with the cl500, in terms of handling, I heard that they are tuned a little different, what is your opinion on that ?, also does one feels any lighter than the other?
Thanks for sharing this video 👍
I will do one in the future
Can you please tell me what model # of Barkbusters handguard mounting kit ( the metal part of the Barkbuster kit) you have on your bike? I see people saying the CB500X 2019+ kit or the 2023 Transalp kits work on this bike, I just don't want to make that gamble and get the wrong ones.
VPs I believe
Hi can you tell me please is the hand guards defo vps as there saying they dont make them for the nx500 on there page thanks
Or if you can please put on here the barkbuster number of them please.
Yes definitely vps .. maybe listed under cb500x 2023/2024
Have you considered, Rhinowalk, waterproof, soft (adventure) panniers?
I have a set I fit for the 250
Can you provide links to all the upgrades you put on your bike?
When it’s complete I will .. you can google them, I mention the names in the video
I can get a cracking deal at the moment at my local Honda dealer, and have every conceivable extra thrown at it...😳👍
The transalp is a lovely bike , if you don’t mind tubes then go for it
Which clip on wind deflector is that ?
MRA
Be careful with the Fuel exhaust. I had one one on my 2022 cb500x but had to take it off as it was too long and got in the way with my shad hard luggage sh35. Now back with the std exhaust.
I won’t be running hard luggage on this
Great video!
Cheers!
It’s a bit small but my knees fit in the right place (under the tank ridge) took a little getting used to but no bad .. try and find one to sit on
@@Mrfish2015
Do Honda offer a tall seat like the Africa twin?
Soft luggage, all the way 👍🏻
Nice looking macheeeeen!
What brand of screen extender is that please? Have you a link?
He said what make it is in the video
It's a MRA have one on my CB 500x
I wouldn't spend too much on it. I have a feeling it won't last. There'll be an Africa Twin in your garage before long 😬
Ha ha , nope
Nice 1 Mr Fish
What wind deflector you use? Thank you :)
Mra
@@Mrfish2015 thanks :)
I'm always puzzled when people don't have luggage space on their motorcycles. What's the the point?
They don’t want it maybe 🤔
The only time that starting problem will reappear will be when you are at a watering hole in the savanna and lions show up.
I’m 6ft 2 and I’ve bought the screen extender. Deffo worth it isn’t it.
Quel est le modèle d'extension ?

Shad have some nice luggage
I ride a Vstrom 650 - I know that adventure bike riders often have a helmet with a peak - why? Is it just to shield your eyes from the sun?
Yes mainly the low sun , but does help in bad weather and mud flying around as well
It was designed specifically for BMW GS riders after the Long Way Around.
The idea was that the peak would catch the wind, lifting the rider's head up so they could look down their noses at other riders(!)
How many bikes have you got?
4
It not starting was definitely a battery issue!
Do you use E5 or E10 fuel or whatever is available.
They are designed to run on E10. All Hondas have been since the mid 1990s.
Use E5 whenever you can. Adding 10% ethanol is only done to keep ethanol manufacturers happy not keep your engine happy
Depends what I feel like , I tend to do one of each alternating
Loved this but why do I think I’m listening to Chopsey’s channel?
😂 I don’t know … he knows what he’s talking about
I suspect your heated grips might be the cause of your battery drain. I know they are meant to be intelligent and stop draw from the battery when the ignition is off but many have found them not to be fool proof.
My 2023 Honda (CB125R) has some unhealthy parasitic battery drain and it is 100% stock.
No , can’t be them or it would never start
I currently have a 2022 ATAS and when it was in for its big service I got a Nx 500 as a loaner. I couldn't go from my ATAS to a NX500, to much of a down grade for me.
Different grade 😂 … if I didn’t have the 250 rally i would be more inclined to keep the twin
Hi all, can anyone tell me what the bike like doing 110ks on a freeway I like the bike bike but i live in Australia and am a bit conerned the long highway runs will kill the bike
Won’t kill it but a bit buzzy
Sorry, i have to: Halfrica Twin !! lol holy crap that made my day, 5:30 am, bad night of sleep, shitty day ahead.... but HALFRICA TWIN just made me giggle and laugh like crazy. so thx Fish 1 Best greetings and thx for a nice shitty day start :)
Glad it cheered you up mate 🙌
I don't understand why manufacturers wire the lights to the ignition. I prefer switching on my lights to be my decision, especially if the battery has become a little low.
? As in the bikes lights or auxiliary?
Ah so it was an nx500, nice one mister fishy fish.
Nice halfrica twin
Shhhh
