    Don't know why anyone would spend good money on an aftermarket exhaust, Harry Honda spent a fortune on research and development on the OEM one.

      While that’s all true, the R&D prioritised factors that would get it through US and EU emissions regs. What it didn’t prioritise was weight, bulk and performance and for some people that’s critical.
      But you’re absolutely right it’s the low hassle option and perfectly good for the 5/95th percentile of users.

      Keep it orginal then no problems as of for me anyway the Honda 500 NX have no issues at all after 5000 km so fare it working perfect! :)
      And the orginale exaust is perfect too in my eyes looks good sounds good so why change lol ! If it weight 1 kilo less the Scorpion it dosent matter at all the 1 kilo and the sound is even worse and louder and the police in my country don't like things like that either.

      Great bikes, who knows I may have to go back eventually…. nothing lost as I had the exhaust anyhow and personally I like the look of the Scorpion over the Honda, although I do agree the Honda does sound good for a standard exhaust! And despite any claims to the contrary a £500 remap is always needed if decatting. Now that may be worth it ( plus the £1500 exhaust) on my mt10 as it saves 7kgs - clutching at straws - but on my Tracer 7? Never.

    Sounds like you suspect that it's the aftermarket exhaust that's causing the problem. If the light comes on again can't you just pop the original exhaust back on and see if it forces the light to turn back off? Even if that's not what you want to have long term it might confirm your suspicions.

    As you said earlier on in your comments,fellow channel contributor Mr Fish had the exact same issues with his NX500 with Fuel aftermarket slip on end can. His main dealer did the same trick that you received from your dealer. But alas I too think the warning lamp it will return at a later stage. I’m no mechanic but I suspect the issue is something to do with exhaust back pressure loss,the stock end can is made up of multiple compartments linked together with smaller diameter pipe work forming the correct amount of back pressure needed to pass the emissions test.

Couldn't fault that bike; just needed something with a bit more power. Hope you get the issue sorted. I'm guessing to future-proof the NX until the next itteration, the fuelling was about as lean as Honda dared go, so anything that upsets the sensor readings (eg less back pressure, free flow filter) throws a code, or the batch of sensors used for the first production run are touchy......happens a lot in the car world, but manufacturers don't admit it's a parts quality issue.

  • @robwilkguitar4458
    @robwilkguitar4458 4 месяца назад +1

    Your after market exhaust allows the glasses to escape "more freely" and therefore allows the gasses to fliw past the sensor quicker. Not a problem you may say, well, thats not the case. Imagine you having to diagnose gasses passing past you? You wouldn't manage to keep up and would flag a problem up with your boss, and thats what the sensor is doing and the boss i.e, the brain on the bike and the brain is is flagging the issue up.
    You'll probably have a reoccurrence of the issue at around the same milage no doubt.
    As the earlier comment states, " Honda has spent thousands of dollars to get the bike up to immission standards and the exhaust plays a major part in doing so". I'm not knocking the dealer(s) but they are so dependant on computerised systems to tell them whats wrong and they aren't thinking the fault through.
    Best advice is to put the original back on if it happens again and see what happens.
    Good luck.

    • @robwilkguitar4458
      @robwilkguitar4458 4 месяца назад

      Can I briefly explain how the co2 sensor works so you understand. It fires an electrical current across two points and dependant on how fast it travels as to whether the emissions are correct. As gas is lighter the air, clearly the electrical current flows quicker and that's how your sensor is measuring the emissions. If your exhaust is allowing the gasses to flow quicker then the stage two sensor cannot provide an accurate reading so it's telling the ECU.
      As I've stated, you can't fix it if you don't know how it works and the mechanic(s) may not understand how the sensor works.
      Euro levels have tightened up so much that engines have to run far leaner and hotter to burn off the toxic gases and meet those emissions standards. I'm sure you are all aware of VW scandal that cost millions in compensation. Law's are currently going through to prevent fitting of aftermarket parts along with gadgets to fool the ECU and it's going to be down to the owner who will be fined if the bike has been modified.
      Sorry had to add this point
