The Camping Biker
Великобритания
Добавлен 21 фев 2015
With an interest in motorcycling, camping and travelling it seemed to me that bringing all three things together would be a great way to enjoy life.
With this in mind I decided to find the 'perfect bike' and go travelling with the 'perfect camping gear' and then I remembered that nothing can ever be perfect so where to start?
Well, the Honda CB500X was a great place to start, developing it into a 'Travel Bike', evaluating camping gear as I went along and ultimately planning to travel longer term would be the end result.
My RUclips channel was initially set up to keep friends and family informed of my travel however it has taken on a life of its own and I'm so pleased to share this with you!

@@sudopatisserie7292 thanks for watching, greatly appreciated… 4 years on, summer/winter use it’s still completely waterproof and going strong… it’s been excellent value
Wow! You live in the most beautiful place on earth. Thanks for Sharing all this. New sub from Colorado.
@@curly__3 thank you for that, it’s greatly appreciated and hope you enjoy some of the other videos.. Colorado is one of my bucket list of places to visit and I dream of a trip around your amazing country.
Please keep us updated - I had the same issue on my 2024 cbr500. Stuck an end can on and a few days later got the light. I ended up putting the OEM exhaust back on just incase that sorted it but it didn’t go away so Honda replaced the O2 sensor as that was showing as the fault. Not really sure whether or not to put the slip on back on but that stock one is ugly and sounds horrible. I’m thinking about possibly getting the bike fuelling sorted out but seems kinda overkill for an end can so feel at a loss.
@@adamqurban8298 I’ll be posting a follow up in the next month or so but after about 1600 miles the light was still on and so I’ve now had the oem exhaust fitted with a reset of the light and will run it for a few hundred miles to see if it stays off. I’m already missing the Scorpion sound but want to take the process step by step, which at the end of the day will help future owners, frustrating though it is! I’ve spoken with Scorpion and they’re working on it but I suspect it’ll be well into next year for anything new…that’s if it’s the aftermarket is the problem of course!! The final options for me is either a device that can be fitted to trick the engine management to think emissions are okay (this route is an unofficial recommendation from dealer) or wait and see if Scorpion redevelops exhaust specifically for the NX. Basically you’ve got the latest update but watch out for video anyhow as I might have further to say then 😂
Great video! Hey what's the max height under the awning? I want to see if I fit sitting on my camping chair.
@@calichelozano it’s about 100/110cm near tent end and then varying dependent on pole length but easily about 140cm at higher end.. definitely capable of sitting under and in wet weather I’ve thrown a cheap tarp over to cover the sides! I no longer have the tent but only because I just can’t keep everything, although I’m considering buying another as they are very good value. I did have to re seal a couple of tie down points on inside of fly but it was easy to do and the tent was worth buying despite this.. have a look at a follow up video in extremely wet weather trip.. How is it two years on?
@@1210tomdoyle I’ve actually changed bike to the NX500 but it worked very well for the 18 months of use on the 500X, I didn’t have issues of it leaking unless I accidentally caught the device while working on bike then would have a couple of drips come through. I found that best to use when lower speeds as at higher it would obviously spray off quicker and to use sparingly, to be honest on a trip just every few days was enough to keep it oiled, the reservoir would last a 2/3 weeks without need to refill, and it needed no servicing. I still did a regular cleaning of chain but it definitely did its job. The only down side of this type of device is that it can spray oil about a bit but controlled by using sparingly and at lower speeds, for me usually when below 30mph. Haven’t fitted one to the NX yet but would do before any longer trip and after change of oem chain to better quality on.
Looks a fantastic site. How’s the engine light / sensor situation going ? Richard ( Brizzle)
@@richardfews2113 yes, very good site! I run the bike with light on for about 1400 miles to see if it would eventually turn off but it didn’t, so next step was to remove aftermarket exhaust, put Honda one on and then run it for several hundred miles to see if problem reoccurs.. I suspect it won’t come back on now! Will be doing an update video in next 2/3 weeks 👍🏻
I just put in a couple of hours on my SR400, and the CB feels like a Gold Wing.

Amazing how you keep coming up trumps. with these £10 and under camp sites, as a biker who only travels Europe because of there value for money camp sites, from as little as €4.50 this is basic municipal with showers and toilets, to sites with pools again within budget €12 a night, i had given up on UK sites however the reviews your doing is stsrting to make me think again, Great review and a pleasure to listen to you 😎🏍️😄
@@themotorbikecamper5990 thank you for watching and for your kind words… I’m so pleased these reviews are useful, the Campsite Review videos almost feel like a Good Value club now 😂 and I think there’s many of us don’t like paying high prices, which is becoming more prevalent in the UK, I had one site ask £35 per night when I contacted as no prices shown on website… they were surprised when I said I’d rather sleep in a ditch 😀 In all seriousness I suspect prices are generally going to escalate to the point it’s just not worth it but let’s hope not all sites👍🏻

I HAVE A COMPLAINT..... After watching your video about the Aoocci C5 Pro and many other versions on RUclips from other RUclipsrs I ordered the C5 Pro. It arrived today and I am informing you that it is a scam while using your good name to promote this product. What I received was NOT what you reviewed. It is a generic dash cam that is available on AliExpress for half the price of what I paid. It arrived in a generic box nothing like what you unboxed NO Aoocci branding on the box , NO Aoocci branding on the device.Totally different wiring harness compared to what you reviewed , NO colour coded leads to hook up power or the cameras. NO manual at all , No where is it listing an IP67 waterproof rating. In other words the item you are spruiking for AOOCCI is NOT what is being delivered to paying customers. I realise this is not your fault , I do enjoy your videos but I thought you might appreciate knowing just how this company is operating. Cheers Gregorio
@@gregoriobono8489 sorry to hear that Gregorio, very disappointing to hear and I would feel exactly the same as you! Have you contacted them to complain and can I ask which country you live in so I can see if any pattern emerges with others that have received the device.. it’s so frustrating that you’ve ended up with something else and thanks for giving your feedback 👍🏻
@thecampingbiker791 I live in Australia and after sending Aoocci a complaint email I received a reply today. They were very apologetic and stated they had run out of Aoocci C5 Pro and rather than keep me waiting sent a generic version that they supply to cheaper markets unbranded. They stated functionality is the same but there are a few obvious differences. They have offered a $10 refund that I will not accept, I will want at least $50 or a full refund. There apologise did recognise that they should have been more upfront and identified the product as a different item.... Not much more I can say but if you would like to sée there responding email I can forward it to you..... Cheers Greg in Oz

I want to ask you ...the exhaust is made especially for the NX500? or is a random aftermarket one ..can you give me a link to check?
@@sotos200012ss the exhaust was a specific CB500X 2019-24 that I had before buying the NX and thought it would be okay as the NX is just a upgraded 500X and is even registered as such.. I’ve subsequently spoken to Scorpion, they are aware of the problem and are going to do some development work with a NX for a new exhaust. Hi. Just wondering if you still use your Opalus 3 tent? You seem to have gone for much smaller options - is that personal preference or something amiss with the tent?
@@amandagabriel3422 Hi Amanda, the Opalus is a very good tent, very roomy and excellent value, but you hit the nail on the head as my preferences have moved towards more compact options, indeed all my gear is moving towards ultralight.. @@person.X. I’ve just recently moved mine onto new bike, the NX500 👍🏻
@@thecampingbiker791 The job has become a total nightmare. First of all I had to use ratchet straps so I could get the bolts into the engine block. It is difficult to do as when you tension the strap the bike itself gets in the way of the mechanism. Worse though, my torque wrench failed to click at 35NM so the bolt has broken off in the billet. At least it wasn't one of the bolts that goes into the engine block. But now I will have to order new billets from RR which since I am in Australia will cost a fortune and take ages.

Great pillow! Sometimes I let some air out so I fold it double and where it bends, that part, put it under my neck so I get more support and can read or use my phone more easy while laying down. I would probably leave the existing ones published but ultimately the channel would wither and die anyhow. The other consideration is just to do campsite reviews which have a good following, albeit not large in numbers, however they aren’t costly to produce and make the least money so easier to do without adverts! Genuine question, how do you see the smaller RUclipsrs continue making videos when the costs far exceed the small income from ads they get or do we just have content from the big sponsored creators or wealthier individuals…I just don’t know the answer to this one!
@@thecampingbiker791 Hey, no worries. On the ads return, i can imagine. Im not an expert and I don't know whether you can choose the frequency of them or not, but I would have thought there was probably some revenue to be had from affiliate links in your descriptions, maybe worth looking into. I bought the pillow anyway btw, cheers 🙂
@ it’s no problem at all, I’m just the same on adverts 😂 Good choice on pillow, I’ve been using mine and find it to be one of the best I’ve tried, only beaten by the Exped Mega pillow which is amazing but for a balance of pack size/value/comfort the Gram Counter wins 👍🏻
Fantastic review mate, I came across one of these on a selling app for half the retail price, used once as new the advert said, I have been considering a one man tent for some time now but never bit the bullet because the tunnel type ones make me feel claustrophobic, after watching this I knew it was the perfect tent for me, the weight increase is worth it.
Great stuff, glad it was useful and know you’re going to enjoy it… they are good tents these Elixirs 👍🏻
Hi bud, met you at the site here, just let you know I did manage to pass my test and went with an NC750s as it was cheap and ticked all the boxes, the fuel tank is tiny and under the pillion seat 😂
Nice one, pleased you passed and great choice with bike.. thanks for letting me know and nice to have met you 👍🏻
That looks great for a night or two when heading SW, thanks for another great option and video 👍
@@markonmotos thanks for watching Mark
Another fantastic review andy 👏
@@andyninja949 thanks Andy, greatly appreciated 👍🏻
This is why I picked the trk 500x I got it back in 2019 and still going well
@@GerardMcmullan to be fair the NX is performing extremely well, exactly as my old 500X did and is almost the same ride.. I’ll get the problem sorted.. eventually!
