The Camping Biker
Великобритания
Добавлен 21 фев 2015
With an interest in motorcycling, camping and travelling it seemed to me that bringing all three things together would be a great way to enjoy life.
With this in mind I decided to find the 'perfect bike' and go travelling with the 'perfect camping gear' and then I remembered that nothing can ever be perfect so where to start?
Well, the Honda CB500X was a great place to start, developing it into a 'Travel Bike', evaluating camping gear as I went along and ultimately planning to travel longer term would be the end result.
My RUclips channel was initially set up to keep friends and family informed of my travel however it has taken on a life of its own and I'm so pleased to share this with you!

Heimbacher Campingplatz Campsite Review
Great review mate, thanks for the information
What exactly is the improvement of fitting a new exhaust?
@@pyramidsinegypt for me personally it’s mainly the bulk of original, the compactness of new plus, but not as important, the big weight reduction.. I also like to put original back on when time comes to sell and not worry about the aftermarket getting scuffed on trails. I’m not sure if your question is genuinely asking or being sarcastic but hopefully I’ve given an answer either way 😀
@@thecampingbiker791Hello, no, it was a serious question. I hadn't considered weight and keeping the original safe. You usually hear people replacing the exhaust for sound reasons but you didn't strike me as the person to go for bigger vroommmm so I genuinely wondered what actual benefits the replacement of the stock exhaust would bring.
@@pyramidsinegypt nice one, actually the original exhaust on these bikes sounds very good, so definitely not a sound thing, but on the weight side the original is nearly 3 times the weight! Thanks for watching and all the best, Andrew
This is exactly why I’m buying a thumper tenere with nothing on it at all. The modern world ever fuller of ai shite
@@kramnam4716 something to be said for simplicity, my little secret is an old 2 stroke MZ 250, literally no technology to be messed with 😂

@@Bob-ts2tu thanks Bob, appreciated 🙏
saves me buying an aftermarket exhaust... was gonna be one of the last things I do to it anyway... after crash-bars, luggage and a clip-on windscreen extender.
@@adam346 yes, I’d hold off for now until we know more.. eventually we’ll have an answer to it but going to take time 👍🏻
Hi Andy. A quick update. I've now got my 2021 CB500X. It's early days but so far so great. I note that you've taken the SW Mototech skid plate and centre stand off because you weren't happy with the skid plate but what did you reckon to the stand? Cheers Mike
@@mikedowning4603 to be honest both skid plate and centre stand were excellent quality but I always knew I really wanted the RR so living with the SW skid plate resonance sound just tipped me to what I wanted.. centre stand easy to fit and top quality 👍🏻
Thanks Andy. Do you still have the stand? If so would you like to sell it?
@@mikedowning4603 sorry Mike, I sold as soon as removed
Where did you get yours for £18
@@somersetlevellersmtb5564 from Amazon in May, just double checked an paid £18.77 which was amazingly cheap! Lowest price as of today £23.66 amzn.eu/d/07G6BO0v The prices bounce about a lot but every week Victorinox Store (via Amazon) puts a knife up dirt cheap for short period, sometimes saying delivery will be 4/6 weeks, but I’ve found they come within the week!! I’ve watched this daily and bought about 12 knives for review and test (and because I like them 😂) all at similar discounts.. bought the Huntsman, a brilliant knife but not yet reviewed for channel, with wooden scales at half price on a deal.. other thing I do is pop them into my basket for a few days and then remove.. to then sometimes see that knife reduced.. 🤩 Coincidently I’ve got another climber and Huntsman in my basket, the Huntsman is at good price but with transparent scales.. thinking of modifying it as don’t want to touch the wooden handled one!! Not giving too much away the Climber is a definite keeper as is the Huntsman and between that and the Huntsman (none wooden) will be my long term travel knife..

Hi. Great video, thank you. Iv'e got a Kawasaki Z900. With the bag bending on each side I'm worried it might take the paint off the side of my bike. Do you think it would be ok to put something in the bottom like plywood to stiffen it up.
@@LeeThomas-1 yes, quite easy as long as you’re okay cutting it, if I was doing so I’d cover the plywood bottom with a bit of thin foam to make it a bit easier on the bottom of bag and seat 👍🏻
Normally you should have the ecu tuned when modding engine components.
@@MAXED-TRUCKING you’re probably right but the previous 500X had aftermarket with no issue over 4 years, and I think many people fit them without tuning and without issue.. I’ll report back when get more info and resolution, also keeping close touch with others experiencing same 👍🏻
Are there any advantages of the gloves over using a Gore-Tex glove? I certainly am getting the gaitor but not sure about the mits since I have a pair of Gore_Tex mid season gloves.
@@ThomasKeene-w2f I think they are for very adverse conditions as it just gives additional waterproofing and for me camping it’s nice to have relative dry gear inside the tent.. also my gortex gloves eventually lets water in 😬
So i trun it clockwise to start it and anitclockwise to stop it?. I dont have to keep turning it clockwise to keep it going?
@@angrypanda6942 no just turn clockwise with no need to turn back, it dispenses a small amount of oil and then stops..basically the quarter turn pressures the oil through and then stops when that oil has gone
@@thecampingbiker791 so I do have to keep turning it to feed it?
@@angrypanda6942 yes, 1/4 turn at a time and with general riding only every few days.. you shouldn’t need to refill for 2/3 weeks. Also, best using it when on minor road or relatively moderate speed as it will spray everywhere if doing it on a motorway for example. To refill just wind it back anti clockwise until it screws off and then ready to refill.. when refilling pour some in but not to top, let it settle as oil will find its way into bottom mechanism and then top up gradually to get full reservoir.. only takes a minute or so 👍🏻
At least it wasn't difficult to put up😂😂😂. Maybe add another day to your camping trip just to make sure you dont run out of time😂
@@Paul-ud7uw maybe I should have had a practice first off camera, but then where’s the fun in that 😂
@thecampingbiker791 I had the same problem, the tarp took longer than the tent. I use a vango tunnel tarp. Very entertaining video and shows the real side of camping. 👍

Nice video. How do you find the cheap sites? I have been looking in pitchup / Google maps but the going rate is more than you pay. Thanks.
Loved this video, very interesting and informative, love that you reviewed the pub from the inside. The site would benifit from at least one shower, especially if you're stopping a few days but it is what it is and cheap.
@@davehalliday6657 yes, showers are always a nice to have but sometimes as you say just go with the flow.. pub definitely worth slumming it for one night 😊
Great vid again andy nice to see you in the pub 😀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@andyninja949 not very often nowadays but thoroughly enjoyed it 😊
I pleasure. Something else that's interesting about the pub is that they used to have a pet turkey that strutted around the garden. It used to stop every now and again, look around at the customers then make a sound which sounded like a belch then carried on wandering around. One day it caused a kerfuffle by attacking a customer's labrador which was on its lead and it panicked so much it nearly had its owner on the ground!!
@@mikedowning4603 no turkey this time but a few peacocks strutting their stuff.. wonder if the turkey disappeared one Christmas 😂
It IS a nice pub, you're absolutely right. We used to live quite close by on the other side of the river about one mile down stream so often walked to the pub via the bridge in Worcester and kayaked up too. We're now in mid Wales so great biking country. Hopefully I'm going to be buying a 500x tomorrow - in part as a result of watching your videos. Thanks Mike

Refit the stock exhaust and see if the fault goes away?
@@glenmayepete I’m going to wait and see if it comes back on, which I’m suspecting it will, then see dealerships response at that point.. then if we hit the brick wall get them to swop exhaust over 👍🏻
I have the same bike, same exhaust and same issue. I reset it using an adapter and OBD2 reader and it just comes back after a 100 miles or so. Get the same O2 sensor fault code P0139 (Slow Response) and P0420 (efficiency below threshold). Dealership said it was the aftermarket exhaust and strict Euro5+ causing the repeated engine light. I’m just living with it to be honest. If I ever sell it, I’ll just put the stock exhaust back on.
@@MrWillith87 interesting feedback, there seems a few having same issue!
I have two Kriega rucksacks. One of them is the old brand “Krug” R35 and gets used every year for the TT trip. I’ve had it well over 25years (when they first came out) and it’s still as new condition. The other is an R25 that I use when I commute by bike. Your mic is picking up heaps of noise i think you need a fuzzy mic its very hard to hear what you are saying great content though...i live in Asia and have 3700km on my NX and have not have had this issue btw.My dealer did say when you switch the key on and the dash lights up to wait until the full screen is illuminated before you turn the key or you might get the trouble light on.b That way the ECU can do its full engine check before you turn the motor over. I had this problem on my Triumph400X it actually failed to start one time it needed a tow to the dealership due to not waiting for the engine to cycle through its checks.
Might be the settings, but it was particularly windy, thanks for feedback though.. filmed quickly on iPhone without mic attached so made a bit in the hoof really 😊 I’m hoping it’s sorted now but appreciate the tip from your dealer, fingers crossed 🤞
Glad all's well, would be nice if we could read the fault codes ourself on the computer screen connected to the bike!
Yes, was thinking that myself.. would be handy
I wonder if this is to do with the NX500 being a Euro 5a machine.
Could be, should find out over a bit of time

Mine came on when I fitted a scorpion on my cb500x. I didn’t use it for a couple of weeks and it reset itself and has never come back on .
Fingers crossed then, it does sound like it could be the aftermarket exhaust causing a glitch
Maybe swap to the original exhaust and see if the problem goes away. Personally I prefer not to give the rozzers advance notice that I'm coming!
I’ll see how it goes with being reset and just take it step by step, hopefully sorted 👍🏻
try disconnect the negative terminal of the battery? then a few sec ot will reset maybe
Already reset with Honda but I’ll keep that in mind I do happens again 👍🏻
If the fater market exhaust is is not sealed where it is connectet to the bicke then you might get problems. Hopes it get solved.
One way or another it will, sounds like it’s exhaust related 👍🏻
PGM-FI is self diagnostic
What does that actually mean 😬
@@thecampingbiker791 There is a diagnostic port under the seat. By joining the wires in a certain sequence, you can read and clear codes yourself. There is a bridging plug available for the CB500x And I would imagine also for the NC. This fuel injection system has been this way since the 1980's ( Although back then, an LED flashed in sequences on the ECU itself. Where as today the engine management light performs the same task)
