The concert (Sion Festival, 2011) begins with the Adagietto from Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. A man is approaching the end of his life, peacefully, full of memories and passions that time has managed to subdue, not without reluctance, into long notes of melancholic beauty. The harp accords evoke tranquil waters, drifting towards the end. Finally, the tired body lets go and the eyes close. Silence. Then the notes of Mozart’s last piano concerto, the twenty seventh, sound like the man’s soul waking up to golden light beams at the gates of paradise, where joy and harmony will never end.
Great. Amazingly great. I like Pires MJ. This is one of the greatest music I have ever listen. Japanese want Pires to return back to Japan. Yamaha is wonderful. I think, if so, all Japanese become happy to have Pires. I want to hear all Mozart piano concertos by Pires MJ.
This remarkable woman has the humility not to want to demand or expect that. Notice her clothes: she's not a narcissist or a prima donna. This is an interesting musical programming experiment with which she was obviously in agreement and in tune. One sublime Viennese piece prefacing, or partnering, another.
Mahler just taught me something use the harp 's basses with the doublebasses ! Wonderful Nagano ! I think his wife is a pianist too ! Why is the pianist onstage for movement cut out of Mahler Symphony 5 . Nagano is very specialand Pires is one of the few pianists truly alive in the way she is soit doesn't matter !
Well Maria João was lucky ... If they had decided to play the whole 5th Symphony , she would have to wait an hour and 20 m without moving a muscle or going to pee...Brave woman...
Perfeita e linda mulher !!!
Haha, this is the gift made to musicians. Last time I sang with my choral, we had to stand at the same place without moving for an hour and we sang only 15 minutes.
Is this a joke? Mozart doesn't need a prelude! The only advantage I see in this masquerade is that the musicians could leave this horrible hall sooner!
It is the worst form of audacity, nay, obscenity & vulgarity to abruptly throw in an advert smack in the middle of a performance! Why can’t the advert be inserted between movements and not during? Gormless.
Mahler is intensely boring ... REALLY! ... tell me I'm wrong! ... I saw a performance of one of his symphonies years ago and only woke up when the percussionist hit a giant gong that threw him halfway across the stage! I can't imagine a more painful musical experience than ever having to listen to a Mahler symphony again ... I am here only for Pires!
@@richardamey3932 Is that love or saccharine sentimentality...? Seems to me that being in love would be no more or less than any little tune from Bach's Notebook for Anna Magdalene.

The first movement of the pianoconcerto couldn't even be finished. And where are the other two movements.??? Bad timing?
Mahler's Adagietto starts at 01:09
Mozart's Piano Concerto starts at 12:44

Since when are we allowed to do this? This was fun!

Surprised that a pianist of her stature could not command her own entrance. She deserved better.

Piano concerto n°27, not 7
Brava!!!!!!!!

Clearly because of the intended effect of moving directly from the Mahler into the Mozart.
Formidable
Maria João Pires Grande Pianista surpreende me sempre para Melhor Melhor sempre

Very strange! The pianoconcerto stops before the first movement was finished! Where are the other two movements? Bad timing??
N0 27 not 7
obrigada meu amor..
Zózó...
How do you pronounce "Pires"?
As in "peers", or as is the case: genius!
Peer - s
27
Mozart 12.54
she had to sit thru 16 minutes of concerto to finally start the piano going. Poor woman. lol

I think she enjoyed listening as much as the audience did; I would have loved to have her seat :) right there in the middle of the orchestra!
Iksr Alquyuud Yes, certainly !!!

Eamonn Morris i feel sorry for you. Hope some day you will enjoy it.
Allow yourself to fall in love, if you get lucky. Then your boredom will change to something else.
