- The Voice to Parliament debate has been co-opted into a racism litmus test by mainstream media - No for "racist", Yes for "not racist". However, First Nations activists have been protesting and expressing their concerns on the covert, systemic racism of the Yes campaign; from the parallels to other well-meaning but harmful assimilation tactics throughout Australia's colonial history to the white guilt, saviourism and paternalism of prescribing a powerless Voice as the best/only choice for Indigneous people.

Definitely! And both them AND the Prime Minister have implied that the Voice will have no power to advocate for environmental justices for their own lands. This referendum, to me, feels well and truly rigged against them at every level 😔😤

It really does suck, especially for the Indigenous communities being forced to put in extra emotional labour during this time. They don't deserve for their affairs to be put into white and non-Indigenous hands like this 💚

I agree, especially since “constitutional recognition” originated with John Howard (the same guy responsible for “Stop the Boats” and rewording marriage law to explicitly ban it for same-sex couples), and he recently called Treaty “absurd”… because it’d be “divisive and fail to gain public support”. Ironic considering how divisive this performative Voice is 😑
