- Sky News host Andrew Bolt says Australian politics “just got more dangerous” as Senator Fatima Payman looks to sit as an independent senator.
“Muslim Senator Fatima Payman today quit Labor, the party that got her elected, and she will now sit as an independent for now,” Mr Bolt said.
“Australian politics just got more dangerous.”

Even if we concede she has Afghan citizenship (which I doubt), the High Court has clearly said a candidate only has to do all that is reasonable to renounce their other nationality; to be reasonable to formally renounce Afghan citizenship, you'd have to recognise the Taliban and invite them to have diplomatic relations and recognise their documents; Now we don't want that do we?
