It is spectacular!! It's a shame they didn't make a point about telling you what time the restaurant closed and served you an used Nutella. I'm sure that Nutella was supposed to be new and somehow you were given a used one. If it wasn't for those two flaws, I would have given a A+ to it.

An answer to your question about the periscope looking thing in the cockpit: this is an old Il-18, a Soviet Airliner. The thing in between the pilots is actually weather radar. The navigator has a bigger panel to the side but that repeats to the pilots via a shared viewscope. I would guess it’s in case the navigator is busy or if for whatever reason the plane was flying without a navigator.

  • @HEDGE1011
    @HEDGE1011 7 месяцев назад +6

    Outstanding video, Tim!
The airliner is an old Soviet Ilyushin Il-18, and I could not be more impressed with the interior, though less impressed with the Nutella service.
I’m a longtime airline pilot with zero experience in Soviet aircraft, but am confident that the odd hooded device was used to view radar. Early monochrome weather radars suffered from being difficult to interpret, and from what I’ve read the hood helped by making the image contrast easier to view and decipher. I expect the radar onboard was primarily a weather radar, but given the cross-pollination of Soviet civilian and military designs of the era, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a primitive mapping or terrain detection capability as well (that I would totally not trust my life to). Some of the earliest airliners I flew in my career (I’m looking at you DC-9 and B-727) had old monochrome Bendix RDR1-E radars with a “Map” mode. (Good luck with that.) I’d love to hear more from anyone who actually flew the Il-18, and would happily allow them to correct me if I said anything that’s off the mark.
Again, thanks for this amazing video!

What an interesting hotel! Thank you for sharing as always!
I am not sure if you take suggestions, but if so, I do have one. I suggest checking out The George hotel in Huntingdon. I was on a business trip to the UK a while ago and stayed there. The place was built in 1575 and is still going. Half of the place burned down in the 1860s and had to be rebuilt, but half of the place is still original. I stayed in a room that was original and it was really interesting. I suggest booking a room with 2 twin beds to get into the oldest part of the hotel. At least that's what I did.
The place is admittedly old and tired. It could do for a renovation, even though that might detract from its charm. Huntingdon is also a little medieval town, so I found it quite nice. Maybe because I'm American 😂
Anyway, love the content as always. Been binging your videos again

When i worked in a hotel some 30 years sgo one thing we had to watch out for in the minibar fridge was items that were consumed, then put back in filled with another liquid. We had to check the seals but if it was busy and we were short staffed it didnt always get done, FYI. Let's say once we found one filled with urine! 😮
So always check the seaks before consuming! If in doubt contact the management.

How fun! I'm curious about whether they ever offered an explanation for why they negelected to tell you that the restaurant would not be open! And I would have told them about the Nutella oversight as well, and expected at least an apology about the restaurant.

Thank you for sharing an interesting airplane hotel. This is too cute and for the airplane enthusiasts so much!!😊 The bathroom with the black accents are cute and interesting. The sauna there looks nice. That was nice to have the dinner table with those black bobble seats. Interesting amenity to sit on.😊

Yeah, wow, the restaurant is closed!! Hmm!! It was 7:15pm!! Hmm!! Ok, next time from your video here other aircraft enthusiasts will know about the close restaurant. You made me laugh when you said tge McDonald's is about 10 minutes away from you there. Boy oh boy, McDonald's is just everywhere!!😊

Loved the video Tim pity about the restaurant being closed and them not giving you an unused Nutella. The price wasn’t that bad for Valentine’s Day.❤️❤️

That was amazing; beautifully designed in there, and spotless. What a shame the restaurant was closed, and the almost empty jar of nutella was a bit naff to say the least. I wonder how long you sat and played in the cockpit lol.

Another interesting jet that was transformed into a hotel!!!✈️ I Love the sauna in addition with the hot tub so cool! Really nice how they arrange the Room very nicely The toilet paper being black what's the purpose give me the match other things gee whiz😮 some of those have dyes and chemicals maybe not so good baby has irritants in that... Nice to have all those movies , thought of everything for that Room!!!! That's too bad that their hours are serving dinner because McDonald's is the worst! 👎 Unhealthy food .. thanks for sharing Tim😁 I never travel these days so I feel like I'm taking my vacation where's your videos, haha. .

Now that pilots hat suits you! Should wear it in one of your multiple occupancy showers or hot tubs. This was a fabulous place to stay. Looked amazing. And that breakfast presentation. Shame about the Nutella. 😊 looking forward to the next one - not in the shower - but vid. 😂
