  • FULL REVIEW OF THE BMCC 2.5K HERE: • BMCC 2.5K vs BMPCC OG ...
    A mix of footage from the BMCC 2.5K (mft) and the BMPCC (original). Both filming in DNG-RAW. Lenses: Canon FDs/Laowa 9mm/Panasonic 12-35mm.
    I do not identify which camera is which--because that is sort of the point. The images from these cameras are pretty much identical--the variance really only comes from the different lens that are used. However, the user experience of the two cameras are very different. Take a look at the reviews to decide which is best for you!

    The main thing that stands out is that some the shots look more like a vintage travelog than others, but I'd suspect that has something to do with the lens choice. Excellent footage from my favorite cameras. I expect the price of the 2.5 MFT model to increase as fewer are being sold to finance new BMD cameras.

      @WillvonTagen  3 года назад +3

      Yes, some of the FD's were pretty wide open. And next to the modern glass there is a definite difference in the sharpness that is visible. But some people chase that look ;)

    Love to see these cameras get love. I adore my OG BMPCC and use it as my main camera, even shot my first feature film on it. Such a great camera to learn and grow with. Thank you for this!

      Thanks man! Yes, I am a total fan of the old pocket--and was surprised with the 2.5k as well. Great little cameras--especially for their age.

    Great stuff! Is 2:09 and 2:15 the bmpcc? Is there a noticeable difference in wide shots between the bmcc and bmpcc?

    • @WillvonTagen
      @WillvonTagen  2 года назад +1

      2:09 is the BMCC and 2:15 is the pocket. I wouldn't say there is a huge difference--the BMCC can get slightly wider on the same lens due to the larger sensor.

    Thanks as always. Did you notice the original BMPCC turned up on screen in 'Tenet'? It shows up (inside a Smartrig cage) in an early scene set in a lab.

      Thanks for watching! I am not super great at color grading but I suppose I could try and get something together. I am not very technical with it, I just mostly go off of feeling. Camera settings were RAW | 400 iso | 23.976 fps | 5600 WB (readjusted per clip in post) | 180 shutter for both cameras using a variable ND.

      I’m not entirely sure but it was definitely one of the Canon FDs with a FD-MFT Speedbooster. Given the wide-ish angle it was either the 20mm f/2.8 or 24mm f/2.0

    which adaptor did u use for the canon fd lenses. I have both cameras and the pocket 4k. In ur opinion could both the OG pocket and 2.5k be a great camera for feature films. I am looking to get close to a Alexa mini as possible

    • @WillvonTagen
      @WillvonTagen  3 года назад +2

      Hey man! I used the Metabones Speedbooster FD to MFT .71 adapter with the FD lenses. You can absolutely use either camera for a feature--I actually used the original BMPCC to shoot my second feature. The trailer is on my channel (HERITAGE). I am releasing the full review of the 2.5K later today, so keep an eye out for that! :)

    Hey, i like your work! May i ask you, why you chose the bmpcc instead of the bmcc for your feature?

    • @WillvonTagen
      @WillvonTagen  3 года назад +2

      Hi! Thanks! Honestly the biggest reason I took the pocket was to give me the option to shoot very, very stripped down and go unnoticed. There were times we knew we would film in public spaces and didn't want to absorb any attention. It was also easier to travel with. Also, at the time the camera was a lot cheaper and the cards also cost less than the SSDs--but the decision had nothing to do with the look of the image or functionality :)

    What's your workflow with the DNG Raw files? I just got a Blackmagic Micro and can't seem to figure out how to get the DNG files into DaVinci. Wondering how to set up my hard drive and filing everything so I don't get lost with all the media acquired. Any help would be much appreciated. Inspired by what you're doing with these cameras.

    ?? How are we to distinguish what is shot on what?

    • @WillvonTagen
      @WillvonTagen  Год назад

      That’s part of the point-they are pretty much indistinguishable. However, everything thing before the market place is 2.5k. Once you start seeing the marketplace it is mixed. Elements like the leaf on the ground, the little berries, the dog-these are OG. The only real difference that could be seen is due to the lens. All the 2.5k used the old Canon FDs and the OG is wearing the Olympus 12-35.

    • @WillvonTagen
      @WillvonTagen  3 года назад

      I'll see what I can do, but I think that is like comparing a car to a bicycle. Both cameras will eventually get you what you are after, but they are very, very different pieces of equipment. I think it comes down to your presence in look and workflow.

    • @deyomash
      @deyomash 3 года назад +1

      @@WillvonTagen It's more that I wonder what the bad sides of the pocket 4k are vs the OG. Not so much the "specs story" but really how do the images look next to each other if graded relatively similar. I have head of the IR problem in both, but have heard the pocket 4k's is worse.. just wanna see.

      Vintage lenses make a bigger difference with the BMPCC 4K than with the early BMD cameras, and Russian lenses (Helios/Mir/Jupiter) bring a ton of character.
