Kobe shot 6-24 that Game 7 for 23pts and 15 rebounds w/ 2 assists & 4 TO, while Pau had 19 & 18 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 TO and 2 blocks. Lakers won by 4 points. @@CHI-JORDAN-CHI That's not what he means. In the Finals, Shaq played against some bad centers and an old Motumbo. If Shaq and Jordan were teammates during that 3peat, Shaq would've had better stats than Jordan because he would've been the main option because of his huge advantage against his matchups.
Not to mention Jordan would have limited opportunities to score because teams were doing hack-a-shaq so Jordan wouldn't even had the ball enough score as much as Shaq. Jordan also would've had to waste energy on defense like Kobe did guarding Reggie Miller and Jalen Rose(MIP) in 2000, Allen Iverson(MVP) in 2001, and Jason Kidd(1st team NBA) in 2002

If Kobe could do that then I can only imagine what prime Jordan would average with defenses having to worry about Shaq as well. Shaq really dominated in the NBA finals every year but really what center in the East was stopping shaq? He was just too big. Every finals matchup with the exception of Ben Wallace it was a huge mismatch. Kobe going up against Ai, Jason Kidd, and Reggie Miller is more impressive. Other than the NBA finals it was a toss up who led the Lakers in scoring in the western playoff series, once it got to the finals against the EAST the big men Shaq was matched up against just wasn’t the same, so he dominated them as expected. Shaq was a huge mismatch for any center that they played in the East. The only smart thing to do is take advantage of the mismatch. Kobe dominated some series and Shaq dominated some, if anything they were a 1a and 1b.

There’s also an argument that shaq can’t win one without another dominant player. Shaq couldn’t win it when he was in Orlando. With Stephan logic, it should also apply to shaq, lebron, MJ, kareem, Magic, and anyone else who won a championship.

Magic all 5 with KAJ and 3 with both KAJ & Worthy, Shaq with Kobe & Wade, Lebron with atleast 2 other top 15 players in the league at the time. You can make the argument against all of them, and we can agree that gasol isn’t on the level of any of those other players maybe except Kevin love who was a 3rd option on his team and gasol was a 2nd option team.

So LeBron didn't need Miami, Wade, Bosh, Love, Irving, and AD to win his championship. To counter the ignorance, you need facts. SAS is more of a caricature than an analysis. I don't put stock into his opinion or Shannon's. The only people making weak ass arguments are fanboys or loyalists. Listening to the video, I hear you doing the same thing. Magic isn't as good as Kobe, or Kobe was better than Kareem. Damn shame. We should ask why LeBron is the greatest of the four players

5 reasons why Kobe was better than Mike
    1. Kobe played his career in a more difficult era. Hand-checking, guard matchups, zone defenses. He had to play against prime D Wade, LeBron, T Mac, Joe Johnson, KD, Klay Thompson, Arenas, AI, Paul Pierce, Harden, Ray Allen etc. Compare them to who MJ played at guard and you'll see Kobe had to play against better guards.
    2. Kobe won back to back championships BASICALLY ON HIS OWN. Only decent player he had was Pau who's not a top 75 player all time. Jordan 1-9 playoff record without Pippen so don't let his 6-0 finals record make you think he never lost. He bailed his team out many times when his team needed him most. Especially in the Denver and Magic series. Kobe was a offensive powerhouse and was the core of those teams. They were gonna live or die by his shots. It shows to the assassin he was. MJ had Scottie to defer to for all his finals facing easier competition.
    3. Kobe has more game winners and more shots in the clutch and all time scoring higher than Jordan. Both Kobe/MJ lived for the last shot but THE MAMBA had the edge in the clutch due to the degree of difficulty of the shots he made and how consistently he made them even against amazing defense where as MJ couldn't shoot 3's as good as Kobe.
    4. SCORING EXPLOSIONS - We all know about Kobe's 81 against Toronto but less known is Kobe's 4 straight 50 point games or his 9 straight 40 point games all whole shooting 50% from the field. Which shows how efficient Kobe was in his prime. Also Kobe has avg 40 PPG in a month 4 times. How Kobe exploded has never been matched, he blew up the stat sheets to where the NBA hadn't seen since Wilt and Kobe did it in the modern era as a SG.
    5. True Kobe fans know how much he was held back by Phil Jackson. Imagine if Kobe had stayed in when he scored 62 in 3 quarters vs the Mavs. He could have cleared 70 points so many times if Phil let him stay in the game more. Kobe even says that when he tied Mike's record with 9 straight 40 point games, Phil told him to dial it back, stopping him from breaking the record. Phil would hold him back for some strange reason.
Kobe is the GOAT. He had more of a killer instinct, higher scoring numbers, higher points in a game, more game winners, 2 championships basically on his own, and the MAMBA mentality.

Kobe lead every player on those teams in usage rate by a wide margin. A guard with a 30+ USG% HAS to lead is team in assists.
By the way, in the last 40 years, the only other guard with an USG% similar as Kobe USG% who made fewer passes than him is Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell is an overall efficient scorer tho, Kobe is not. Kobe is both one of the less-efficient guard of his category shooting wise and one of the worst passer too. That's the point.

Magic Johnson was the 4th leading scorer in the 1982 NBA Finals but he led the team in rebounding. A point guard. He out-rebounded Kareem by 3 per game. He also led the team in steals that series. He always provided what was necessary to win. You can't judge Magic by the points he averaged. That would eliminate the context you want everyone to have for Kobe. Magic was the floor general, on-court coach and utility guy providing whatever was needed. How can he be judged by points when he was setting everyone else up for their points? Or leading the team in rebounding when necessary? Magic was not stuffing the stat sheet to be the Finals MVP or GOAT. He was more organic in his focus: WINNING. If he could win scoring 10 ppg then he was happy with that. If he needed to average 25, he did that too. If he needed to lead the team in rebounding, he did. If he needed to lead the team in steals, he did that. Whatever was necessary. Not just a scorer.

Kobe was the floor general when he won with Pau. When he won with shaq, he literally was playing the facilitator, defense, and offense. Kobe was the whole entire package compared to Magic. If you going to highlight Magic’s contribution, you need to do the same for Kobe. His contribution to the championships were a lot more than what magic did in his championships.

He also had games where he shot horribly, which everybody does but his dominance came thru Shaquille O’Neal.
Kobe wasn’t doubled nearly as much due to shaq being double or triple teamed.
Shaq went to the conference finals on every team he went to n final on every team he led . Kobe at the time was a great marksmen while shaq was a tank.
Shaqs numbers and accolades prove who was the number one guy and it not really close and has only changed to be that way in the past 15 years.
Before Kobe won those championships people hated Kobe because he ran shaq out, the fans knew what they lost at the time. Of course people still like him but Kobe was the recipient to many death threats due to the fact that the team went in shambles.
Kobe has always needed a great big in order to win and only won 2 as a leader . The other 3 shaq was a leader. D Wade had to goad and mentor Lebron into taking a the reigns for Miami after losing the first year. He continued to mentor him until he left. That should also disqualify Lebron as Kobe didn’t need any mentoring or encouragement to be the man.

For context: LBJ shoots 37% outside of 3 feet. And is 20 out of 112 in clutch time. Saying that LBJ is a better shooter than Kobe is like saying that Shaq was a better shooter than LBJ because he had a higher shot percentage. Now if you want to say that LBJ is better overall, yeah sure, but let’s get the shooting record straight.

I was gonna say, Kobe was 21-23yrs old and in ‘00-‘01 he was avg one less point than Shaq in the postseason and only 2 less the next year. Shaq getting more blocks and rebounds, Kobe getting more assists and steals as expected. But Shaq was in the heart of his prime. We gotta stop acting like a 3peat as “superstar 1b” as a college aged kid just doesn’t count or mean anything

  • @donavonhoward114

So I guess Kobe just lucked into being a first team All-NBA all 3 seasons, making the All-Defensive 2nd team at just 21 (the youngest to ever do it), and making 1st team All-Defense in 2001 and 2002 as the best perimeter defender in the league. That's with scoring 22 ppg, 25 ppg, and 28 ppg in those three seasons. In the playoffs during those years he averaged 21 ppg, 28 ppg, and 28 ppg again if I am correct. I don't care which all-time great superstar Guard, or Forward played with Shaq on those Lakers teams. They all would have played second fiddle to Shaq simply because Shaq was a dominant Center, and Shaq got the most high percentage looks under the basket in the low post. The Lakers main goal was to find ways to get Shaq the ball in the low post, or take advantage of double and triple teams against him on the perimeter. Kobe sacrificed some of his production in order to win titles with Shaq. Kobe was easily a top 3 to top 5 player in all of those 3 seasons. Each of those three seasons the argument for best player was between Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, and Iverson. I would argue that in 2001, and 2002, Kobe was the best player in the game, and certainly the best 2-way player from 2000-2002 hands down, even over Duncan. The guys Kobe went up against were some of the best Guards, and SF's the league has ever seen whether it was Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Ray Allen, TMac, etc.

I really see yall as kids arguing about their favorite flavor of ice-cream, not having the cognivite abilities to understand nuance and subjectivity. Yall are taking this GOAT thing a bit too seriously, it really doesnt mean shit.
Kobe was a great player with some pretty bad flaws, like most great players really. If he's your favorite player (or one of your favorite) it's absolutely ok. Nobody has to share your opinion on him tho.
I know that Kobe is many people's childhood hero and it's hard to have an objective opinion on a childhood hero. It's natural. That said, it's time to grow up and understand that everyone's story is different, your story is no more valid than anyone else's.
What matters is not that we all agree on the top 10 players, what matters is that we should all have the right to give an interesting and educated opinion on the subject in a respectful and friendly atmosphere. Facing up to other people's opinions is what makes us grow and evolve as human beings. We have to learn to accept that others are not bound to feel the same way as we do. (This is something we normally learn around the age of 6, but Kobe/Lakers fans generally don't seem to have had much access to a basic education).
Also, trying to prove anything about Kobe greatness by using statistical evidence is a pretty dangerous task. Absolutely no advanced metrics are favorable to Kobe (at least not to the point of proving that he's one of the 10 or even 15 best players ever), and you know it. If you like Kobe that much you're either an eye-test guy or consciously biased, using stats is pointless.
Give me a heartfelt argument, tell me why you love him so much, I'll be glad to hear/read it but if we really dive into statitistics you'll just lose the debate.
And by the way, yall really should stop watching TV, it's making your brain melt really. You're watching people get paid to make awful hottakes but for some reason you're fucking surprised and angry when they're making awful hottakes. Come on.

Kobe Bryant was never carried by anyone, Shaq was the man but so was Kobe. Both were the creme of the crop when it comes to elite superstars at that time, dominance and skill.
