This story added confirmation to my understanding about Kobe. Yeah he disrespected or ignored many of his team mates. But it was because only few put in the work and toughness up to Kobe's standard. Like even he defended Adam Morrison, because he puts in the work.
It’s because he doesn’t do it for attention like Lebron does. Kobe was a real alpha don’t give a f what anybody thought. Can’t say the same about Lebron
Super cool that Kobe helped out Devean get that well deserved new contract. I forgot how much I liked Devean as a player, he reminded me of Trevor Ariza which I can see why Kobe liked him.
So sick of the smut on Kobe’s name like he wasn’t a leader..he lead whomever was tryna come with him for that chip. thank you for this 🙏🏽 R.I.P Kobe Mamba Forever 💯
Because of this Kobe thing Devean George was one of the key reasons the Lakers kept winning from 2002-2004. Starting against the Sac Kings in 02 and hitting big shots in 2004 against the Spurs. George played well in 2003 too but was hurt in S.A. when he went to the basket one of those games. Devean George hitting shots alongside Fisher was a big reason the Lakers went back to the Finals in 2004.
I remember devean george as a solid player back then I was just a 9 years old but I remember I used to watch nba on nbc every saturday and sunday and up until 07 I wasnt a lakers fan I was just a fan of the game I remember they always featured the 76ers and fell in love with iversons game remember I used to wrap my arm pretending I had a sleeve just like him lol good times man how time flies but their is a difference between now and then players bow are skillful and fast but they make a lot of mistakes players back then were smarter and knew how to control games
Kobe was truly alive because he never stopped learning oh he did fly off kilter 4 a min there but Phil came back and he understood him, so he shined again.
never knew d george was from mn... i'm from st. louis, mo - but ii got a few homies from northside minneapolis - ii think they went to henry and i knew a few chicks that went to washburn. lol
Used to hoop with his brother at the Y on the north side. We used to hang at his house and be like “if your brother on the lakers, why are u here?” I think his mom wanted to stay in her house. Good memories
I’m just truly disgusted with all the people that talk down on Kobe and act like he didn’t have all of the skills in the world. That’s exactly why he gets talked down on by other basketball players and basketball fans!! They are just mad their favorite basketball player isn’t even close at being at the skill level of The Black Mamba!!!! G.O.A.T. !!!!!!!!!
Kobe had many friends from teammates to competitors and did go to bat many times. Ask Lamar Odem. Not like today where these chumps on the court are sensitive and wanna hug before games like hella friends. Shout out to Draymond Green. But he hug a MF too.
It's so sad that one of the greatest of all time behind MJ when other players in the league was in bed Kobe was in the gym shooting never had a off season and only wanted greatness from the others on the team just loved winning dame I miss mamba will never be anything close
He definitely wasn't early on but he learned how to be a leader later in his career. Some lead by example, some lead vocally but they all want the same results. Magic led one way, Kareem led one way, MJ led one way, Kobe led one way.
Correction! - He definitely WAS early on, Even by your own understanding of leading Mental Still... From day one to the last day as a Laker, KBB led with his actions. And if you want to call 1999 later on in his career, he was obviously vocal per D.George standards, and the breakdown of this video. What makes him the best leader/ player you seen on the basketball court, is because not only did he add all the greats leading style, he added all the greats skills to his book (the boi even shot the best Dirk's shot against Dallas in Dallas outside of Dirk (his version of paying tribute to another great by studying his game)). Case and point, MJ lead a certain bulls team by breaking a team mates nose because he wasn't playing hard enough in practice. KBB version was the elbow to the chest of sasha for not practicing hard enough. From 20 years of observation, the only players he couldn't lead was I.Rider, Shaq, S.Parker, and D.Howard. But that's 10 fold with the amount of players who didn't play with him that he sensei'd.
Yeah, Shaq's lazy butt would not have won in LA without Kobe. The West was too strong. You win in the 4th quarter, not the first 3, and Shaq was a liability in the 4th and useless at guarding anyone beyond 10 ft from the basket. He didn't always give effort on the defensive end and had horrible cardio. Even Jerry Sloane said, we didn't really guard Shaq the first 3 quarters to keep our players out of foul trouble but when the 4th came, that was when they threw bodies at him and by then Shaq was already exhausted, wasn't a good passer, and didn't have many offensive moves making him predictable. Not to mention he couldn't hit free throws.Del Harris and Shaq prevented Kobe from developing at the pace he would have, had he went to another organization. Shaq talks crap about Barkley never winning a chip, but without Kobe, Shaq would have been in the same boat as Barkley. Even former teammates said Kobe was pretty much unstoppable and was killing everyone in practice, especially Eddie Jones, when he was a Rookie to prove a point .Dell Harris still didn't play him. If Kobe was the main option on offense against the Pistons, they would have won. Kobe could score from anywhere and could pass, making it harder to prepare against the Lakers. Shaq had only one way to score and it wore him out by thr 4th. That year, Shaq was out of shape and only played half a season from a broken leg. Phil even had to tell Kobe to dial it back because they were losing Shaqs effort. Shaq was getting jealous because Kobe was averaging 40, all nba defense and they were winning without Shaq. Shaq was always a sensitive guy.
Del Harris is the worst coach of all time. He was unable to recognize Kobe's greatness. Luckily West was there, traded away Eddy Jones so Del had to play Kobe. And eventually got rid of him. And Kobe blossomed.
I love me some kobe but now.....if he had all this and he was so brilliant and so good and so knowledgeable then why did it only equate to two titles?.......because now that hes dead people are just being sentimental snd overrating him. He wasnt/isnt as high on the alltime that most of you think he is
I love Kobe but i still dont think he was a good leader for most of his career not that he was bad or terrible but i just don't see him on the standard of guys like Bill, Duncan, and Curry
You're right,Kobe wasn't a leader for most of his career, especially the first 3/4 yrs of his nba career,no one is gonna follow a guy right out of high-school.
@@belak1551 A team can have multiple leaders. Both Duncan and Pop led the Spurs. Curry's seems to act as a pretty good mentor, leads by example, and is willing to sacrifice for the team those are all great traits for leaders
Kobe made all his teammates so much better. Especially when kobe saw them put in the hard work.
This story added confirmation to my understanding about Kobe. Yeah he disrespected or ignored many of his team mates. But it was because only few put in the work and toughness up to Kobe's standard. Like even he defended Adam Morrison, because he puts in the work.
Exactly. Ppl act like he was just a tyrant. He was an A-hole, but only to those who didn't work. He just cared more.
Right. Probably one of the highest compliments as a basketball player, if Kobe said "Adam could reaaalllly play"
Thanks for this, Kobe gets discredited a lot as not being a true leader. I’m glad you’re allowing his teammates to speak on it.
Nobody said he wasn't a leader, just a bad teammate to alot of players. But that was him just copying MJ, from his play to attitude
@@NorthMemphis901 but as you can see in this interview, he's also a good teammate. Just not in the traditional sense.

Do you think Smush worked hard? He lead in steals.
What do you think about the "little-ass guy" not being treated right?

Devean George was a CRAZY athlete man
"They got the numbers right yet?!" imagine hearing that from Kobe, when you're just a regular nba player. BEAN RIP

Devean George... Only player in NBA history to win 3 rings in his 1st 3 seasons🦾🦾
