  • Besides Kobe Bryant, Devean George is one of two Lakers that was on the team for the 3-peat and Kobe's 81-point game. He remembers the dark days following the 2004 Finals and Shaq's exit.

    The podcast universe really gives us a chance to hear perspectives from NBA players who weren't stars(That's most of the league). I'm always hearing the POV of the stars and former stars about what it's like to be on an NBA team. Devean George is the rare NBA player who was drafted out of a Division III college in Minnesota of all places. I'm glad to see he's doing well after basketball and apparently was very smart with his money. I love to hear stories like this.

      Dude, he's exaggerating. Remember, they are talking about role players. They got their shots. When some people think of Kobe, for some reason they only think about 2006, and 2007. Those were the only seasons where Kobe truly dominated the ball so much, because he had to in order to win games. Just imagine if Kobe would have given each of his starting 5 role players 10 touches each per game during that season just so they could get in rhythm. They wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs at all.

    Lol, haters want to believe that role players didn't get the ball because Kobe didn't pass the ball which is false. That's exactly what the life of a role player is. Yes, players need the chance to get in rhythm sometimes, but the flow of the game matters as well, and not everybody can get 10 shots per game just because they would like to have those touches. Let's also not act like the Lakers were stacked with perimeter shooters after the Kobe and Shaq split. The superstar scorers (the best players in the world) always get the most touches by far. Just imagine how many losses the Lakers would have had in 2006, or 2007 if Kobe's main focus was getting his role players the ball above all else? When Kobe didn't take at least 20 shots in a game, and the Lakers lost, people still bashed him. The Lakers wouldn't have even sniffed the playoffs if Kobe didn't take over during those tough seasons. 2006, and 2007 were the only seasons where Kobe dominated the ball like that because he had to dominate the ball so much in order to have a chance of winning. Outside of that, Kobe took around the same amount of shots as any other superstar scorer, and for a lot of years during his career, he took less shots than other scorers.

    • @Serching4JerryGarcia
      @Serching4JerryGarcia 24 дня назад +2

      I saw it with my own eyes too. When the Lakers were going to the Finals in 2008-2010, Kobe was spreading the wealth. He no longer needed to average more than 30ppg. He could have continued doing that if he wanted to but he changed his style of leadership and the Lakers had better chemistry.

    • @rumarspencer7302
      @rumarspencer7302 13 дней назад

      Donovan and Garcia, in 06 and 07 Kobe had to take all the shots, cause those are rebuilding upcoming teams, he did it so that they could stay competitive, but those yrs, those teams had a 45-37 and 42-40 records and made the playoffs, that marked the first time that both Kobe and Phil lost in the 1st round of the playoffs in their nba careers at that point and for the rest of their personal careers. But when we got Pau, that uplifted us too, got us to 3 straight finals winning back to back, but at the same time, we helped out Pau's playoff career too, playing with a proven winner like Kobe, made Pau's playoff career improve better from his Grizzlies playoff career.

    • @Serching4JerryGarcia
      @Serching4JerryGarcia 13 дней назад

      @@rumarspencer7302 remember that the Lakers in the early part of the 07-08 season were already looking like contenders before Bynum went down. That’s the reason they made that Gasol trade in the first place.

    • @rumarspencer7302
      @rumarspencer7302 13 дней назад

      @Serching4JerryGarcia Yes I know, looking back on it, Bynum getting hurt turned out to be a positive, it allowed us to trade for Pau, if Bynum didn't get hurt against Pau and Memphis, the trade wouldn't have happened.

    After that the rebuild comes. Lakers somehow made sure they will rebuild but still competative. They got Kobe and Phil. Look at that roster who made an all star apperance? None! That's from 2004-07. But yet Lakers in the WEST madw the playoffs with only Kobe as the lone star with young players and no all star apperances. Pushed the suns to 7 where the Lakers should have not lead 3-1 at all because Suns got Marion, Nash, Barbosa, Bell, Thomas, Kurt who already got deep playoff experience amd 2.all stars.

    Lebron is going to bestow confidence in his team so they'd be ready to hit big shots when he gets doubled, vs Kobe who gets praised for having "mamba mentality" and not passing to his teammates that he belittled. 😅

      Yeah the same player who outs his teammates thru klutch Sports, riiight. Its a lot of pressure when you could get traded cause you can't make catch and shoot 3's and he definitely makes his teammates better by reducing them to being spot up shooters cause he's a layup merchant who needs the spacing so he can score...😂

      Different types of leadership 🤷🏾‍♂️ Both Kobe and LeBron want to get the same results 🏆

      Then how did they rebuild, and win 2 more championships (and don't tell me it was because of Gasol)? How did they still make the playoffs in 2006, and 2007? How did they run the Triangle offense successfully? How did Phil Jackson's vision get implemented at all if Kobe didn't pass the ball? Go back, and actually try to watch the games.
