@Lu Ms it breaks it down and carries it through the exaust, if it does get stuck in the exhaust it doesnt matter since it wouldnt effect performance at all
@Lu Ms most exhaust systems are pretty thick in diameter, so theres alot of space for air to travel through it regardless of carbon build up, carbon build up hurts the engine performance usually when its inside of the cylinder because it messes with the firing of the actual engine, it can get in the fuel injectors and even on the tips of the spark plugs. This is a very condensed space, and seafoam should get the carbon build up out of the cylinder through the headers and through the exhaust, sometimes it can get stuck somewhere in the process however, but generally it doesnt, and if it does, it will just move onto the long exhaust pipe in which it wouldnt end up losing as much performance as if it was actually hurting firing time or the other engine components, so to answer your question, yes, it can, but its not supposed to. To answer your second question, if you have more than one exhaust tip and its thicker than the bananna can fill, then yes it would decrease performance, but in most higher performance exhaust systems, it wouldnt effect performance much, and this example doesnt work here because carbon is incredibly small, it would not build up to the size of a bannana.

Marvin Harrison Smith II I don't use BG but know people that recommend it. What I do is this check out on Google.com in the search bar put in LS1 been testing oil. It's about using Marine two cycle outboard TCW3 rated oil at 1 oz per 5 gallons that's 640/1 ratio of gas to oil every time you get gas. My Volvo and Jeep run great. Marine TCW3 oil burns ashless. Lots of testing done. I've been using for over one year
I'm gonna do this to my brother's car but not mention the smoke out of the exhaust is supposed to happen. And watch the panic and anger set in for him, and the joy and hilariousness set in for me. 🤣
I've used Seafoam over the years in old farm tractors, rototillers, mowers, antique cars, motorcycles, etc... and swear by it. Good informative videos, keep up the good work.
I just sent this video to a friend. We do this to all our vehicles when we first get them as well as later on down the road as matinence. Ur vehicles run a lot better afterwards.
I've used seafoam after my civic was idling rough that had 200,000 miles on it...after using it like you did it was running like a new car...safe to say seafoam def works!
Im a little confused. On a port injection vehicle, wouldnt just throwing it in the gas tank do the same thing? Itll be mixed with the fuel and clean the injector subsquentially cleaning the intake valve right and end up in the combustion chamber anyway? SO why go through the intake ? Cylinder heads?
I’ve used sea foam on all my cars and I’ve had some cars for almost 8 years. That ran as well as it was new even after 100k plus miles. I’m not saying that sea foam kept my car on the road but it definitely did not hurt it as far as I can tell.
I have always loved to apply Seafoam to my cars. I've owned 65 cars since I was 14 and I'm 38 now, so I've had some fairly crappy cars with alot of miles. I just love pulling the brake booster hose on my cars and slowly pouring Seafoam into the hose while running and watching my car smoke out the entire neighborhood. SO much fun!
I know we only looked at the piston and cylinder but I wonder what it did to the valves and injector tips? I hope more of the same. Thanks man great video.
It be badass to have him as a neighbor like you could work with him while he works on cars and he can teach you or if your car is not working he can help😂
Great video! If you ever get the chance, definitely try this out on engines notorious for carbon buildup. Like Audi’s 5.2 V10 on the C6 S6 or D3 S8, which are much more prone than an R8 because those cars are more likely to be driven leisurely.
I've been wondering about this for forever now but the Shell gas station claims that shell V power can clean your engine of carbon build ups and gunk up to about 80% in just the first fill up. You should creat a video and see if shell V power (premium gas) cleans as well as they claim. My wife and I argue every time we will up if it's worth the extra money to fill up with V power just because they claim it's so great for you let vehicle. It would just be very interesting to see the results.
Steven Christen the only thing you need to understand about gas is the octane rating is all that matters. All gas require cleaners in them. Put in the gas your car manufacturer recommends unless your engine has been modified in any way to operate at a different ratio.
Steven Christen - I have the same question! My company deals with different fueling contracts, but many of their employees and drivers swear by and use Shell "V" Power! Been using it for over 15 years now...
Steven Christen yeah I don't believe that. also, I don't know where you at, but in some states in the U.S., Shell V power is equal to regular gas in Europe (whether it's a Shell gas station or not). V Power in Europe is 98 oct RON (or 94 US octane), but in the UK I've seen 97 RON advertised as V power, in some countries I've seen 99… Some countries even have Shell "race" gas (100+ oct RON). Over here, regular gas (U.S. 91) contains 10% ethanol and premium contains nothing extra. Just unleaded gas. Don't fall for it, though… premium gas in a car that doesn't require it, and this seafoam crap… it's bullshit. Just fill your car up with the gas it needs and maintain your car probably and it'll run as long as it can.
@@arnemaeschaelck5012 ummm U.S. regular at least in California is 87 Not 91. Last I checked the amount of ethanol allowed was Unregulated. Arco and 7-11 is the worst imo and Shell stations here at least buy NON SHELL gas ! I've seen it many times. the tanker trucks have the names of major 3rd tier fuel companies. I dont trust Shell. Mobil Chevron and 76 seem to have less ethonal and more mpg than cheaper fuels after extensive monitoring in my V6 powered car. Alcohol ie ethonal burns faster than gas so the money saved is lost in lower miles per gallon.
Shell Fuel in my Harley I gain 5 mile per gallon I get 40 MPG average at BP or Citgo , 45 mpg Shell. Im 25 miles from a Shell , So when im up there I top off .

The short answer is yes if anyone wants to skip the video. I use the oil and fuel additive and the intake spray both from sea foam on every new car I buy, always cleans a hell of a lot of stuff out and gives me peace of mind!
I am more concerned with the intake valves and guides on a GDI then the combustion chamber. Would be interested in seeing the diff with the intake valves after seafoam.
@@tehgzizlauw1787thats what i was thinking mine look black and i was thinking of taking it off and brush it but i discovered the sea foam and say let me try it.
@@williamjoseph4095 you can use seafoam as a solvent to help loosen the carbon on the valves before you scrub it off with a brush. But if you just spray seafoam through the intake it will just go into the combustion chamber and burn off. The carbon on the intake valves on a GDI engine is too baked on usually for that to make any difference

Hi Chris, this is what I do every 10K miles. I mix up a fuel system cleaner which is a gallon and a half of fluid. One quart of Acetone, M E K, Lacquer thinner, Zylol, 100 percent Isopropyl alcohol, and two cans of Berryman gas treatment. I mix this in a empty 2 gallon gas tank. I run my gas tank low and fill the tank with straight gasoline and the mix I described. In just one gas tank the engine gets cleaned well including the fuel system. Works for me fella. Give it a try, works really well. A old timer mechanic showed this to me years ago. Peace vf
I just used it on my '85 Toyota. It seemed to work pretty well overall, and noticed the change almost immediately after starting to spray it in front of the TB. BUT, after I was done and took the the intake apart to remove the Seafoam line, a bunch of the seafoam dumped all over the ground. A bunch of it clearly didn't go into the engine.
After watching all your videos on this subject it would appear that surviving combustion is the most important aspect of any of these cleaners for piston tops. For example seafoam is mostly pale oil that was used as an upper cylinder lube years ago. It allows the naptha, which is the primary detergent to survive long enough to clean the piston tops. So for your test it's the most likely to show visible results. Agree?
I used in gas tank for three cars 1996 Volvo, 2016 Ford escape, 2019 RAV4 I got good results on all cars performance wise It's really good stuff Thanks
You are supposed to add it to the gas tank as well as the intake. Praying into the intake is just to get the removal started. Having it also in a full tank will result in a much better cleaning. Can also add it into the crankcase, which should be done about 500 miles before an oil change.
I took my car to a mechanic because it was guzzling fuel. We thought it was a bad EGR valve but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. I asked him about fuel additives and he suggested seafoam. I added it to my fuel tank as instructed on the can and it worked.
p0seidon I disagree, with the new Veloster N coming out, the aftermarket for velosters is gonna improve, whereas US production focus and fiestas have gone out, it’s left hyundai open to snatch up the affordable hot hatch market in the US, and if commonnerfer likes his veloster, then more power to him
Hey Chris you're suppose to let it hot soak for at least 20-30 minutes before aggressive driving might get better results, when I did mine after 45 minutes of 70 mph driving I had lunch and jumped on the highway again and lo and behold I stopped traffic accelerating onto the highway with all the smoke I left behind that's almost 2 hours after I did the spraying.
DUDE!!! Is this magic in a bottle??? I have used alot of stuff that is supposed to help with injectors and all that. This seafoam stuff is a God send. I got really scared with all the smoke but kept going and kept revving it so it wouldn't die. Kia spectra 220k on it and this stuff did wonders. It's seriously a new car I cannot even put into words how well this worked for my SUPER gunked car. About the cat I'm sure it's not great but again 220k made the car run like an absolute beast. Thanks to Chrisfix for easing the anxiety of doing it enough to actually send it.
Thanks so much for conducting this test and really appreciate your editing skills with your equipment and being able to show us conclusively Seafoam works with this application technique. Really appreciate your videos as learning aides.
1999 isuzu amigo had sugar in the gas tank[kids...] replaced all fuel injectors. Ran flawlessy but had engine light. Tires even spun 👍. Added seafoam as mechanic suggested & light turned off automatically 100 miles or so. Only stuff i buy!!!
Sugar is not soluble in gasoline. The whole putting sugar in someone's gas tank to get revenge is an old wives tale. Try it yourself. Put sugar in a jar of gasoline. It just settles to the bottom.
I used Seafoam in my 1995 Chevy S10 when it had about 20,000 miles on it. I went from using no oil from 3000 mile oil change to 3000 mile oil change, to burning a quart of oil every 200 miles. I thought that I ruined my truck engine. Miraculously, and for reasons I don't understand, the usage eventually decreased and I went back to not using oil again. Fast forward 280,000 miles, I completely forgot my old Seafoam experience and used it again. The same thing happened. My mechanic and I both surmised that the usage was related to all of the oil drips at the bottom of the 280,000 mile engine. I considered junking the truck. I added oil as needed and changed the oil, and the same thing happened. The oil usage went away again, Not back to zero like before, but I'm low not quite a quart at he 3000 mile oil change again. My advice: Don't use additives! Not in your gas, in your oil, in your coolant, in your tranny or air intake. Wait until a part needs replacement and replace it.
Thibaut King Trust me, after working in a garage for several years, I found out how junky GM is. If you want reliability, you go Ford. What's it matter if Adolf Hitler admired Henry Ford? Oh wait, you do know Henry Ford just invented the assembly line, right? We are talking about something from 100 years ago. GM took a multi billion dollar bail out of American tax payers' money just a few years ago. They went bankrupt because they make pure garbage. But instead of survival of the fittest, they took money to keep producing junk.
my first video from you and subscribed in the first min cause i love how you put it out there that you bought all products yourself to satiate your curiosity and to know for yourself!
Chris, I really liked the video. I have to say, that I am not convinced that the SeaFoam did a lot of good. If at all possible, I'd like to see the results of using straight water injected into the intake, like the SeaFoam was, to see if that would clean off some of the carbon build up. The reason being, I have pulled cylinder heads off of cars that had head gasket leaks, and the cylinders that had coolant leaking into them were very clean. I think steam cleaning your intake with water can have the same results.
+Robert DIY Thansk a lot Robert! Glad you liked the video! I will be testing water soon! I just need to find a car. Finding cars with dirty engines is hard!
Just stop any car on the street. My guess is that 90% of them have dirty pistons. LOL Heck, I may look into getting a camera and do the test myself. God knows I pull my share of heads (about one per month).
+Robert DIY Actually, 90% of them have clean pistons. Most cars today have clean engines. Even the old engines! Plus I need the car for a few days. Getting the right angles with the camera takes a lot of time!
Well that's good to know. I know that most of the heads I pull reveal clean piston tops. Usually the carbon is in the intake ports and the bottom side of the heads, bottom of the exhaust valves. I thought the camera was easier to work with. At any rate, you're doing an awesome job helping people understand what's going on around their vehicles. Please keep it up.
+ChrisFix If I lived in your area maybe and could loan it for a few days.I have 300K on my Durango. It was abused before I got it and cleaned it up. It would be a good test subject.
Cop "Sir why were you driving so fast?" You "I was just added seafoam to do a system cleaning, they told me to drive aggressively" Cop "...on your way"
True story experience of sea foam spray: I tried this on my dad's 06' BMW 750li. Inserted product while raising RPMs. Drove aggressively. He stated that while driving, it gave NO power. Car drove like dog$hit. I felt terrible. Car had to be limped back home practically. He took the next day off work to get a tow. He told me that upon starting the car it fired up and ran like a top. That was great news to hear after thinking I killed his car. So anyway I'm gonna try the product in my 87 b2000 FE3 swap. My only guess in his case is the plugs got soaked or maybe a sensor got tripped...that car is loaded in sensors. Mine, less so.
Would have been good to do a compression test, to see if the improvement actually made any real world difference. That's whats really important. I don't think it made a huge difference looks wise.
2016 ford explorer xlt, 3.5 ecoboost 6 cy. 134000 miles runs great. I want to do this but worried there may be significant carbon build up that'll break loose!
Sorry Chris...one of the few times I might have to disagree based on results. It looks like it didn't really do that much at all, just a bare minimum result. I'd try another cleaner.
I followed your video and it cost me a fortune. The Seafoam wasn't too expensive, but buying the camera, program and laptop computer broke me.

keep in mind, the engine was already pretty clean. I bet on a dirty engine the results would be more impressive. and you didnt look at the valves either.
It does work better in a dirtier engine. Letting the fluid soak in the chambers then removing it before starting is what works best.
Yea these kind of cleaners are meant for much older cars with years and years of carbon buildup

The back side of the valves is what I would be interested in , the minor amount that’s cleared off the Pistons is mostly irrelevant on a street car

I have always loved to apply Seafoam to my cars. I've owned 65 cars since I was 14 and I'm 38 now, so I've had some fairly crappy cars with alot of miles. I just love pulling the brake booster hose on my cars and slowly pouring Seafoam into the hose while running and watching my car smoke out the entire neighborhood. SO much fun!
24 years ,65 cars. Sounds like you are buying junk and make a lot on scrap metal. All your cars need a tag that says , scrap metal.
I know we only looked at the piston and cylinder but I wonder what it did to the valves and injector tips? I hope more of the same. Thanks man great video.

I use seafoam on all my engines, crank cases, transmissions and power steering!

Have you had any luck with sticky piston rings when adding it to the oil crankcase? Have you ever left it in for 3000k miles? Or just Vv 100-300 reason I ask is I just did a fresh oil change on my car.
@@truthseeker1203 seafoam deep creep might help a sticky ring, soak it for a while and it might pop free. I always used ATF before I found seafoam. The engine treatment can stay in if you want too. I put it in my skyline every oil change.

I am more concerned with the intake valves and guides on a GDI then the combustion chamber. Would be interested in seeing the diff with the intake valves after seafoam.
Intake valves on a direct injection engine won't get cleaned by spraying seafoam through the intake, you have to go in and clean it by hand.
Exactly!

You're supposed to do it with the throttle open
@@JohnZombi88 well, it was open. But not wide open

I usually perform an oil change right afterwards too.

+Big Flop Agreed. And keep your fluids fresh!

Welcome aboard! And thanks!
LOL
Heck, I may look into getting a camera and do the test myself.

Projectfarm tested it and found it improved it by a good margin so I think it's safe to say it actually works
