I’ve never heard anything so true in my life, it’s a match made in heaven.
Matt Reeves has said since the beginning that his Batman movies were separate so I don’t think him or Pattinson care at all or are mad. Nor should they. They have all the freedom in the world to do what they want in their pocket universe and just made one of the best comic book films we’ve ever gotten. Also The Penguin show is starting to film at the end of February. Hope you and Jason have more shows together!
Matt Reeves literally said in 2017 that his Batman movie was separate and not part of the universe. Then he tried to do damage control and say of course it is part of the DC universe. He has been adamant it’s separate where Pattinson signed a 3 picture deal. He wouldn’t have been mad and knew the deal.
All due respect to Jason but I feel like we need a little greatest hits rn. In the general pop culture zeitgeist, there hasn’t been a great Superman movie in decades, and I feel like the Snyderverse did a lot of damage to these characters, so we need to take them back to square one and rebuild them

Yeah I don’t understand his reasoning there, like, are we supposed to have Blue Beetle and Booster Gold as founding members of the Justice League in the new dc universe? Superman and Batman can’t exist?
Yeah I think his take on 'they're still trying for Green Lanterns, really?' Is pretty confusing. They tried once, more than a decade ago and since then they've been pretending that the green lanterns don't exist.

The Penguin show is still happening. It starts filming February 28th. There's a very recent (Feb 2nd) Variety article where Farrell talks about it.

I agree with sal 100% the new Batman movie better be comic book based!!! We need a blue and gray suit with a real yellow emblem. The Batman while amazing it feels like another Nolan universe. I want weird and cool villains that haven’t been on screen yet for this new Batman.
I don’t understand people saying the Reeves film feels like a Nolan repeat. Nolan’s films were strictly set in reality. Gotham was just a basic metropolitan city and all of Bruce’s equipment was taken from his company or purchased.
In the reeves film, Bruce makes all his own gadgets, cars etc. gotham is gothic and looks like a shithole, all the characters speak as if they’re from a 40s detective noir, and the riddler is appropriately over the top. That feels like comic book Batman to me. He even wears a grey and black suit.
@@Gino565 My comment wasn't meant to say that The Batman was a Nolan repeat so I'm sorry for the confusion. What I meant was that they both share the same hyper realistic tone which I'm fine with and enjoy! I just would like to see a more fantastical interpretation with manbat. Hell I still would accept and want manbat up against Reeve's batman.
I think they could easily have a 29 or 30 year old Bruce. If Damien is 9 or 10 it wouldn't be too difficult to say 'okay, so Bruce was seduced by this female assassin when he was traveling the world and training at 18 or 19 and now here's his secret son'.
Now, if they make Damien a teenager, yeah, then the age gets a little more complicated.
My issue with that is I don’t think the character of Damian works as well without the previous Robins being involved. If Bruce is 30 and Damian is 10 (let’s say) then there’s no possible way for him to have mentored the other Robins in that time.
Part of why Damian is a good character is because of his conflict and rivalry with the previous Robins, his constant striving to prove himself to his father in the face of his other surrogate sons. But we’ll see, I’m excited nonetheless

I definitely agree with Sal’s theory on how the world reacted to this announcement. Obviously for ppl like us, who live and breathe comics we’re excited.
But to Sal’s point, the general movie going audience won’t be convinced or excited about this new slate until trailers get shown.
I think what Gunn is doing is incredibly ambitious and seems to be in line with what I want out of a live action DCU.
However, planning and devising a slate is much different then having to go MAKE that slate, along with making sure what is produced is quality.
Not saying he can’t or won’t make this universe successful, but whatever is released with Gunn & Safran at this point needs to be a certified unquestionable home run

I think the most exciting thing about this lineup is seeing James Gunn in the video he released getting so excited. I mean, I'm glad he's having fun, but it's a waiting game for sure.
I think the new DCU needs some “greatest hits”. We haven’t had a good Superman movie in like 40 years, it’s time for a good version of Superman at the center of your universe. And we need a rebooted Batman for the DCU because the Snyder version was bad. In order to get your DCU right, you need the Trinity to be good, (and the JL) and we have never had that ever in live action. They need to get the basics down right because the last 10 years of the ”Snyderverse” were bad. I’m really excited about the future with James Gunn in charge of the DCU.
James Gunn said that Batman was only going to be a few years older than Superman.
Blackest Night feels more like a phase 2 sort of event, I feel like it has more impact after a little more time for in-universe deaths to slowly build up.
Here's a half-baked idea: (already sorta done in the recent GL: Beware My Power movie)
Instead of building to a single universe-spanning big bad, it's a political conspiracy to instigate the Rann-Thanagar war. It doesn't necessarily come to Earth, but the intergalactic threat builds up over the course of the phase and our heroes feel obligated to go to Rann to try and reveal the conspiracy and end the war.
It could be the focus of the mystery on the GL show, for example.
My favorite duo. In my opinion, they are the greatest comic book experts on RUclips. Their love for the medium and understanding of the industry is remarkable. Great podcast!
My theory for the overarching villain....MORDRU. We have a link to the past and potentially the JSA via Paradise Lost and Hippolyta, we have a link to the future and possibly the LSH via Bootser Gold, we have a link in the present through Swamp Thing and potentially JLDark. There's also the matter of the Lanterns investigating a "terrifying mystery."
And now I’m here. Hope it’s a good start.
I wonder if theyll fold in manchester black into the authority movie. I dont really know much about the authority tbh, so Idk if that could work, but fingers crossed.

Mandalorian is a giant virtual set as is most of Disney's "sets" now. No reason HBO can't do the same thing
HBO doesn’t film that way and has created its own Volume, but shows like Last of Us and House of the Dragon build actual sets where that Volume is used sparingly. They are more authentic looking shows just like Andor being shot on location with sets built even though in another comment, you said you don’t watch the Star Wars shows and prequels.
@@DanV900 I mean they overused the Volume later on, but 1st season Mando was still amazing regardless of the sets being actually constructed.
I think Snyder’s Batman has people messed up about what Batman is and could be. I bet when Brave and Bold comes out we all go “oh shit Pattinson could not have been this Batman” I think the tone will be totally different and the dark broody Pattinson Batman is way wrong for it. I think the tone for the entire universe is going to feel much more like the DC comics universe and I can’t wait.

To be fair regarding character ages, there's no definitive timeline that has been revealed as well so there's kind of a middle ground that they can be worked toward.
A Batman with a late preteen Damian Wayne can feasibly be in their late 30s, whereas the mid 20s Superman movie could easily be framed as a slight prequel for a modern Superman closer to early 30s.
Both would firmly justify the reboot as your Superman is hovering Cavill's starting age before they wasted him for 10 years and Batman, while being older, is still not pushing 50+ the way Affleck was at the start.
I mean real talk Batman could be still late 20's even with a late preteen Damian. It's not like this would be the first time in history a teenager got around with consequences down the line.

11:28 I kinda have to disagree w you guys. It’s not like DC doesn’t have any releases until these new projects that were just announced. The earliest seems like 2024 for a couple of these shows, and we’ll have the Flash and Aquaman 2 in 2023. All of these projects most likely get the greenlight, I don’t see why they wouldn’t unless those movies bomb.
That being said, yeah I’m not getting my hopes all the way up until I see a trailer lol it’s just a weird situation all around.

honestly, the superman movie could take place years before the batman one that way assuming they do John he and Damian could be about the same age and superman doesn't age normally because he is Kryptonian which explains why he looks like he is 25.

There's so much potential for Paradise Lost and so many stories to pull from even more recently Wonder Woman: Historia. They could also develop the Amazon's lore and the different tribes making way for characters like Artemis and Nubia. Like y'all saying there's no point is def something. Just say you haven't read many Wonder Woman comics and are cautiously optimistic

Damian was artificially aged by the Al-Ghul family. So take a year two Batman (22?) and if that Demon story that they pulled him from was then he is only say 27 or 28 when Damian is introduced to his father.

I spoke to Pete Tomasi at LA comic con and he said he didn't even receive a copy of the super sons animated movie. I really hope the creators are paid well from these movies..

In regards to one actor across all platforms it will be interesting to see when some of the bigger members of the universe contracts come up for renegotiation. If one person is Firestorm for an example across live action, videogames and cartoons and Firestorm become popular someone can really hold Warner over the barrel.
I think the Legacy in the Superman title is referring to his own legacy. Superman will be in a space in his superhero career where he's still figuring out what kind of legacy he wants to leave behind. And perhaps The Elite will be in the film to play off of that idea.
I presume that Reeve's wants to do his own thing via a separate universe (totally OK with me). And that if Reeves was to walk so would Pattinson. I think they are a together or nothing deal.
I do think that their Batman universe would fit in really well with other more fantastical elements. I can see Clayface or Mr Freeze existing in the Gotham that was depicted in their first film.
Oh well. I just want super powers in a Batman movie pls.

The only alternative to that culmination of the dc universe would be a crisis, however I don’t think they should do that because of the fact that this slate is very messy already
I don't understand all the hate for Damien. If it's because he's a spoiled brat, he was. And that's exactly what I would expect of someone who was treated as close to royalty as you could imagine. If it's because he thinks he's better than everyone, it's because he excelled on the island to such a degree that he was better than most. If it's because he acts entitled, if I was the son of THE GODDAMN BATMAN, I would feel that way also. I can't remember which RUclipsr make this comparison but I can clearly see his point: Damien acts almost exactly like Vegeta.

My theory for older Batman is that in the movie we introduce Nightwing and some of the other Bat Family as well as explain Jason’s death, in the sequel we do a combination of Death in the Family and Under the Hood and we end it with Bruce retiring and having Dick become the new Batman
Maybe they’ll do an older Batman so that after a decade of it they can move into a proper Batman beyond?
Challengers of the Unknown could be fuckin amazing if they had a good writer.
My Nightwing pitch. Bruce meets Dick at 14 yrs. He's Robin until 20 With Bruce's final test Dick joins Spiral become Anget 37. Comes home and becomes Nightwing. There are two seasons of Grayson staring you in the face. Maybe 3😎😎😎

Whatever hesitation an actor might have about the whole 2 Batmans situation, will go out of the window if he is a relatively struggling or only a very minor successful actor. Like the already successful ones probably do care, but the actors that are still living off their parents wealth probably don't. They need that money and recognition.
I could be misremembering, but I feel like Gunn stated early on last year that he has no interest in directing the Superman film.

BvS was ALL about the consequences of Metropolis being destroyed. It's why I liked BvS it actually redeemed MOS for me.
Gotta disagree with Jason’s take on the Flash. I don’t think Ezra deserves to continue being the Flash, and I don’t want to see him as the character in the future. However, it would be silly for WB to not release the movie at this point. Its one of the most expensive movies ever made, and it plays an integral part of the cinematic universe going forward. I also believe that these characters are much bigger than any one person, and to completely scrap a movie based on the controversy of the star is a mistake, at least within the context of this situation.
I think more than anything this guy needs some mental help. I don’t excuse what he did, but the crew and various others that helped develop this movie shouldn’t be punished for the actions of one.
On the topic of Ezra’s behaviour… they can’t let them go. They’re checked into rehab, and the unions won’t allow WB to fire them while they’re in rehab.
Engagement and interaction with creator to please the mathemagics that choses what gets seen or not.

James Mangold seems a bit tame for 'Swamp Thing'. I'd like to see someone like Panos Cosmatos (Mandy, Beyond The Black Rainbow) handle it.
Mangold has essentially never made a bad movie and has done quite a few different types of films. He wanted The Wolverine to be rated R, but wasn’t allowed and after the success of Deadpool was able to have Logan be R. He would be a great choice. Mandy and Beyond The Black Rainbow aren’t great to say the least where Panos Cosmatos has not proven to handle character studies. Mangold is a significantly better choice as a director.
I'd love to see Ben Affleck direct a Superman movie, his grounded take and view of modern "Americana" would be interesting to see for Clark to live in.

Reports say Mangold is in talks for Swamp Thing maybe they shoulda locked down some talent first. Also not a complete reboot sounds a little messy. Why did Gunn promise January? lol
Gunn took over very recently and scripts need to be written. Who exactly is getting locked down without scripts? Mangold would most likely be involved in writing the script which is why he was eyed for Swamp Thing.

@@dageekynerd2898 Yes, because you need to have actors audition which is how the process works. Even with scenes that aren’t in the finished script, you need to test multiple actors. Gunn hadn’t even finished the Superman script yet. It is also not just Superman, but doing a screen test with the actress who will play Lois as well.
They didn't say Batman would be Bruce in Batman Brave and Bold. It could be Dick. Also the DCu isn't going to start until 2025 so Reeves Trilogy will be done by the time DCU Batman comes and the audience isn't as stupid as you think they are. Also Penguin show is still coming.
They literally announced that The Batman Part II comes out the same year as Superman: Legacy in 2025 so the trilogy won’t be done. James Gunn also said in his video that it’s a father and son story which would be Bruce and Damian. He confirmed it’s not Dick. The Penguin show is coming next year where 2024 looks to have no movies at this time. Reeves takes 3 years with his movies honestly so the third one probably would come out in 2028 and this slate is confirmed to be from 2025-2027. There will be at least one Reeves Batman movie when the Brave and the Bold happens.
I wanted Andrew Garfield to be the Spider-Man of the MCU so bad back in those day. They proved me wrong with Tom Holland and I really hope that DC can do that same thing with their new Batman. I REALLY wanted Robert Pattison to be the new universes Batman.
The problem with this slate of DC movies is there will be multiple versions of the same characters which can divide the fandom. Very risky move🤔😮💨
The Authority sounds like Suicide Squad to me
They are not the Suicide Squad. It’s a Justice League type team with its own Superman and Batman that will kill and has been government sanctioned. They fight off insane threats and aren’t doing it to take time off sentences.
I would love for Batman to be Dick Grayson in the movie and Bruce gone (missing).
I hate Prequels as a general rule but I did enjoy Pennyworth and Krypton. But I have zero interest in House of the Dragon or Rings of Power or any of the SW shows because I hate prequels. I know how these characters end and its not a good ending. Why invest my time in these stories
when I know everyone doesn't get a good ending.

I mean its funny how the two prequels you did enjoy are about characters we know a lot of stuff about after the prequel, and the two you refuse to watch take place a century of centuries before the original and barely feature characters you already know the story of. Not that I have watched HoD or RoP (the latter I probably never will), but doesn't really seem like your rule is really all that consistent.
House of the Dragon is set almost 200 years before GoT and makes no sense to call out. Those aren’t the same characters. Anyone mentioning that show is just being nonsensical. Andor has been the only prequel show besides animated shows and the Empire has never been more threatening where it’s great. You don’t know what happens to most of the characters in the show. Better Call Saul is a prequel and was fantastic. The people who harp on prequels are just bizarre.
The Godfather Part II is a prequel. Many Saints of Newark was a prequel. The Temple of Doom is a prequel along with The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Prequels can be done really well and expand on characters where you know their fates later. Why just avoid watching them when they can make the originals better? Prequels can also be done poorly.
