Every car guy/petrol head is that way. Heck I even watch minivan and by far the worst type of car for me personally, a small suv or cuv reviews because I'm interested in the car world overall. As far as this channel goes I'm actually surprised they don't have many more subscribers. The quality of the content they put out and consistency with uploading new videos are spot on!
The only channel where the hosts are willing to do launch control sprints on a snow-covered road while still speaking intelligently about the vehicle an it's traits. (hat-tip)
Finally, someone understands what BMW is doing with their interiors. I hear far too often that BMW interiors are boring, and that they can’t keep up with Mercedes or Audi. That’s not true. I work for BMW, and have been told by Corporate that they want an easy to use layout, so that driver’s can focus on the road.
Well I wouldnt say boring, the interior leather and ambient lighting just makes it so much better, interior layout is nothing if there is no quality and with that, BMW delivers. BMW offers far more interior color choice than audi and Mercedes on most of there models, I think BMW interiors are great.
@@cowmath77 my point is, BMW refuses to go with flash over functionality. Everyone is already complaining about how Mercedes and Audi new interior screens washout in the sunlight, and how there’s fingerprints and dust everywhere.

Ah I think they are distinguishable mainly because of the size, expecially as m-cars. The otherday I saw an x7 next to an x5 and didn't know if i was looking at an x3 and x5 or not tho
As a truck driver I can say you almost never see these vehicles in places where you can hit it hard. The majority of the go fast cars I see are downtown in the most packed parts of the city. Street lights every 8th of a mile. All of this to say 0 to 60 in 3 secs but these owners rarely tap into half of that.

People say BMW's interior is boring. I'd say it's timeless while other brands' interiors are saturated with one thousand screens that go obsolete three months after release.

Not really related, but this "boring" interior is why I prefer the 7 series over the S class. Not too many screens going on in the interior. I just hope their exterior designs become more cohesive going forward. The new 3 and 4 series, the i series cars and the XM aren't looking good at all, and that will hurt the brand image.
Or a competition for who is the biggest douche in town. Here in Central-Europe you barely see any decent human being in these cars. Mostly wannabe thugs and i-am-a-wealthy-entrepreneur-look-at-me type of people.
Usually I agree with you two but I drove the m40i x3 and the maccan back to back and i loved the x3 more. The iDrive is so good that I never use apple car play anymore. The engine is superb and one of the smoothest turbo charged engines in the game. The m version sounds even better.
The X3 M40i is a little bit less precise than a Macan, but it has more character. Sometimes a car being a bit 'too perfect' is not quite as fun ... The B58 (particularly how they tuned it in the M40i at 382hp) is all rough and rumbly and has torque at just about every RPM, while still being smooth when you don't push it. I enjoy it very much too. And while it's not as fast as a X3M (B58 vs S58), it's still plenty powerful and it has a much better ride than the X3M, particularly with the 19" wheels ... I think it's a better compromise for road usage honestly.
The Macan is very nice but it feels like a compact hatch to me (I’m 6’4”) It doesn’t feel nearly as great as everyone says. They are beautiful and do all of the things really well, but I feel like the purpose of the Macan in this world is to give auto journalists a foil for which to play other vehicles against…a magical Halo vehicle that everyone tells you is perfect, best ever but no one but some journalists have actually driven in top trim with all of the things. Then I wonder, what is it about the Macan that makes it so magical for someone and after driving one…I don’t see it. Around town you could not tell me it’s better than another quasi-comparable option. I think the Macan at its limit might be as magical as people claim, but for normal hooning there is absolutely no way I’d walk away from it saying, wow that is the best of its kind. Ever. No fricking way it’s good, really good, great even…but vehicles have character and Macan represents a refined character but not necessarily the most desirable character. I think the Macan exists simply as a tool used by journalists to try and keep car companies honest and not too big for their britches.
"you're not buying this as a sports car replacement" I bought an X4M Comp precisely because I could not get a Z or a Supra down my steep drive into the garage. So while an SUV suited me for towing jetskis, accessing an incredibly steep driveway and general coastal lifestyle I did have my heart set on traditional sports car so the performance & handling as well as the practicality were up there for me.
Mark and Jack understand "boring" BMW interiors. When one desires a functioning interior, the design coalesces around one particularly functional design. Physical controls are not completely abandoned for deep menus for immediately needed controls. Alternatively available user designated shortcut switches are available. The owner can make the information systems work for them rather than being forced to adapt to some pretty abstract video game parlor design.
This so much! What's funny is BMW kind of invented the useless interior in 2002 with the e65 and have since come full circle and now build some of the most useable modern interiors for high end cars.
And now they are, smh unless you ordered one in the first year they now all come with the new giant screen iDrive 8 interior. People say it’s not all that bad but no way it’s better than physical controls, screens are great for most things but climate control or volume control physical controls are so much better.

Great video!! The full M version is amazing. Comparatively The X3 M40i is just superb! THE X3 M40i is the car I ended up purchasing over the more ridged ride of The X3 M which is absolutely phenomenal. It simply came down to which car “rides/drives” the very best as daily driver in fun full send beast-mode and as a regular daily driver. This is the best review for this car and it covers the one thing this car has yet to address *ride quality. I’d love to see a side by side comparison review of the X3 M (non-competition) and the X3 M40i. Lastly, the summer tires that these cars come equipped with are fantastic for “SUMMER” the same tires in the “All Season” variant the Yokohama AdvanSport / AS simply make this car a flat out joy to drive! Better stopping and takeoff when temps are below 45F as they are now! QUESTION. What are the winter tires on the car as reviewed? Thanks.
I remember when iDrive first came out, and people just tore into it for needing way too many steps to get something done. But it sounds like being persistent in improving it over the years has paid off for BMW. (Lexus, you listening?)
I've had 4 versions of iDrive over the years. It has improved significantly in each rev, for the most part. I actually think iDrive 6 was the best of them, rather than iDrive 7 in my current car. It was VERY intuitive for use with the iDrive wheel. 7 was born with Touch Screen assumed, and some features are now a little awkward to use with just the wheel (which is easier to use while moving without taking your eyes off the road at all). Thankfully, the voice commands have improved and do work for most of the slightly awkward bits of the OS.
Living vicariously through Mark and Jack! @Jack you were right about the NX. We picked it up last Saturday (F sport with all the bells and whistles and to be honest, I’m a bit underwhelmed! I’d buy this if the NX wasn’t my wife’s car! On the flip side, my IS500 is arriving next month!!
Curious to hear about your IS500 sir. I'll be honest, it's a tough sell for me over the M340i personally. And I say personally, because I already have a V8 rwd sportscar for the summer--I think I would want a more sober daily vehicle than the IS500. That means AWD, larger cabin, better tech, etc.. but, on the flip side, you have the long term Lexus reliability, which what you also want for daily driver.

And for us, the IS500 became the right car due to the V8 (I’ll be parting ways from my E39 M5), we have had more lively cars too (Porsche 911 and Caymans) which are too low for my wife since she had a knee procedure, and so the IS500 offers that combo of retro, luxury, and analog that I was looking to get. For me, its not about going fast, it’s about the handling and connecting with the car as your reach speed. The M340 is a phenomenal car, but after spending way too much money in modern BMW maintenance, I promised the wife that I would lean towards reliability which “limits” me to her own perception of reliability based on “facts” which is Lexus and Porsche. So at this price range, for us this would be a well equipped Macan/Macan S or the IS500 and I prefer the understated (somewhat) perception of the Lexus vs the Porsche and lower maintenance costs. Again, I’m a unique use case, but from the dealer that I have been working with, most people are looking for a reasonably fun, luxurious ride and are long term Lexus fans. Perhaps the same folks that wanted a GSF but didn’t pull the trigger at the time.

Always find it interesting when youtubers still comment on capacitive touch buttons for favorites in BMWs. I have these in a very entry level E90 from 13+ years ago and never use them
I have 10k on my 2020 and everything you said is spot on! For the average enthusiast the X3M 40I with the B58 is a way better proposition but I traded that in for this and the S58. The turbo motor that sounds, revs and acts like a NA. Revs to 7200rpm maybe 7400 limiter. I love the Idrive 6 with the old fashion speedo and tach in the 2020 and not all the complicated menus and metal on the dash. If you turn off all the nanny's mdm/dsc there is nothing to save you except your skills. Every time I fire her up I feel like I am going for a ride not a drive. I plan on keeping this one for a long time! I love that the average person has no idea that this will blow the doors off of 99% of anything on the road in acceleration and handling. Keep hating also because I like to drive rare cars that don't cost a fortune🤑 but are rare. The only thing that changed is it used to cost $30 to fill up now it is $60🤔.
Agree with the review. It’s a very rough ride for a daily driver. I test drove it with the OEM run flats and the ride was very harsh and jarring in comfort mode. I’m sure it would be better shod with regular tires.
I test drove 2 GLC63S (1 SUV and 1 Coupe) and then felt like something was missing from the drive. (it didn't help that I just got out of my M2 to walk into the GLC test drive) I then test drove an X3M and immediately remembered what was missing; the driving engagement/fun to drive aspect. Although I do agree the X3M is on the firmer side, the GLC was the complete opposite and way too comfortable for it to be engaging, it felt disconnected from the road. I size down to 20" for winter setup here in Canada and it does help smooth out the stiffness a bit. Honestly at this price point there is nothing that drives like it in the segment other than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio but I heard too many reliability horrors with it to gamble with it. As always, great review !

Size down for summer as well tbh. Find a rim/tire size you're content with and keep the same dimensions but just swap winter/summer tires. It's an SUV not a gt3 RS... There is literally ZERO need for 21@s apart from cosmetically and quite honestly they impact the driving experience so are a negative overall.
That cool shortcut buttons feature that shows you what they do when you hover your finger on them is actually a long time(ish) BMW feature! My 2011 M3 had them, and im sure most other E9x cars (or at least LCI ones). Surprised me when I first discovered that they did that and thought it was really cool and well thought out by BMW. I used my shortcuts to turn off the iDrive hump screen and dark mode for the nav.

I live in Naples. All the complaints on the ride unfortunately make this baby a no-go for me. I do not find our roads to be smooth. The texture of them and NVH they cause is horrible.

As a previous 2020 X3M owner I had 2 main gripes. The ride (as you mentioned in the video). The powerband. Unless you were using launch control it was a total dud under 60mph. Useless for stop and go daily driving. Above 60 it had so much power I couldn’t even use it because I was in triple digits in no time. Traded for an M340i. Not as fast in the quarter but that single turbo spools so much faster than the twins that it’s much better in traffic. I also picked up a trackhawk. That satisfied my off the line throttle response and softer ride suv. Not as refined or pretty as the X3M but I enjoy driving it much more than I did the X3M.
I used to be such a BMW hater but they are indeed making some great products these days. Great engines, great transmissions and tuning, good interiors and infotainment and the reliability is much improved. Thanks for the quick look at the updated X3M Mark and Jack.
You guys are awesome, i love your reviews. Im thinking of going from 2017 golf R to this x3m comp, but I am concerned about ride comfort. How close is this to the R, for daily driving.
May I ask why is it necessary to buy a SUV while the 3 series has plenty of space for a kid + has decent safety? Simply do not understand this false sense of safety what people feel in the SUV-s. Meanwhile everybody buys these shitcans and it is a nightmare to drive in town because of them.
Great review guys! My wife drives one daily and I always grab the keys when it's not being used. As far as the ride comfort, the aftermarket solves this. We run MSS adjustable springs coupled with the stock active dampeners. The softer rates have improved the ride and my two kids haven't complained at all on roadtrips. Have serviced it twice at BMW dealerships and they haven't said anything about the adj springs or denied any claims (they replaced a whole headlight assembly because of led failure). I love this thing 🥳

Half of the problem with ALL new cars and people complaining about harsh rides is the fact they have SUV's running on low(ish) profile tires and 21's. There just isn't enough cushioning between the last metal point of contact and the road. Best solution for an x3m? Go down to 20's and a 10mm wider tire front and rear along with a one size larger profile than stock so 255/40r21 to 265/45r20 for example. It makes all the difference, suits the car looking meaty and helps ride quality without ripping the OEM suspension out. Personal opinion but low profiles on cars nowadays is fucking gaudy and pointless. It's nothing more than a vanity item as the majority of owners will never push their car enough ON TRACK to warrant rim/tire setups brands give you from the showroom. Bit of a rant lol.
Honestly most dealerships don’t care, bmw is the one that cares and they won’t single you out, unless you have a tune and you keep breaking parts then that’s when you gotta worry, we got modified cars with meth injection all the time and they’re still fine regarding warranty
Back when they first came out I test drove the X3 M40i and SQ5 back to back.. The X3 blew my mind as to how sharp and focused it was. The Audi on the other hand was like a fast mattress. So cozy and isolated. I walked away that day with the Audi as my pick because I loved the top notch ride and cabin isolation. The powertrain of the Audi was adequate but far from remarkable. The powertrain of the BMW was unforgettable, however. I've seen and heard so many comments about the bad ride in the X3m, I wouldn't be able to consider one on that alone. It sure is a mean machine, though! I wonder if the refreshed M40i is any improvement in ride comfort over the M.. So glad BMW is somewhat "back".. Another great review, boys!
I really don't get the sporty suvs, specially when they compromise on the suv advantages which are ride and space. Audi does them excellent because they are still very comfortable which is what people want on a daily suv, but it is plenty fast for when you want to race someone or just have fun. If you want a very sharp and focused vehicle, just get a car and not an suv.

I have a 2016 X5. Just the 30D with SE suspension but sports seats and nice wheels. The Idrive pro and licence update is just the best. Period. 7 seats and tow bar. Done.
This looks really, really good. And I'm old enough to remember when every BMW in the lineup looked good. These days, about 30% of BMW designs look like they're from Crazytown.
I just swapped my 21 BMW M2 competition for a 2022 X3M competition, and many people look at the price tag and think it's alot but when you look at the performance numbers this is like BMW mini trackhawk, it defies physics in so many ways. This thing can pretty much annihilate anything on the road in it's stock form, when you see what any srt product is currently going for, this is pretty much bang for your buck and way more upscale than those vehicles when you consider this to be at least $15-20k less in the current market , it becomes an enticing offering, once you drive sports cars and use to the ride that sports cars are supposed to have this honestly isn't as bad as advertised by some reviewers but some people don't understand what they are signing up for and think they will be gliding on Aladdin's carpet but I daily drive this and it is truly a joy to drive and this is a keeper in the long term

I probably would've just bought a track Hawk. I don't think I would've ever thought about buying a Jeep over a BMW, but the track Hawk probably has better resale and it's about as reliable as current BMW products
Love it. I work in valet parking and unfortunately can not drive cars very fast, or for very long. But I have been in a lot of cars, from luxury SUVs to Ferraris. That said, the feel of the X3M, or even the X340i is amazing. They sound awesome. The interiors are great. I totally get the Macan, but there's something about a hotrod BMW X3.
Very well done guys!! Owned a macan turbo and went to a x4mcomp. Agree the porsche is so competent but that same competency makes it boring day to day. The x4mcomp rawness is so different than anything on the market and it's the only suv that gives me that experience that only Sports cars are usually only able to provide. Not to mention x4mc is in a different league when it comes to speed than a macan. Most important although you mention it's a bit harsh, you realize that there is a component of of people who specifically want that from an M car and especially a comp, very few of the other reviewers seem to understand that. That handling capability and its ability to communicate what the road surface is saying(through the seat, not so much steering) is what seperates it from the others.
Great video guys, though I would add one note - an X3 has far, far more space than a Macan. I’m 6’2 and considered both those, a Stelvio (which I ended up getting), and a few others like the XC60 and SQ5. I could fit behind myself with room to spare in all of them with the Stelvio being tight, but the Macan was an entirely different level. If you ever have anyone in the backseat or use cargo capacity, the Macan is simply too small - smaller even than my GTI. That could be a deciding factor and I think was glossed over.

Yes I totally agree. I have a first gen q5. I assumed the macan being closely related would be similar size. It's slightly smaller on the outside but somehow significantly smaller on the inside.
Agreed. I've been considering a Macan and that's part of my hesitation. I have an XC60 R design currently and the back seat is really nice! I wish it had some recline, but I rode half way cross-country back there and it was wonderful! The climate controls in the second row really help with overall comfort.
@@JavonAnonimni Got it back in 2019 and got $11k (yes, really) off a $55k Stelvio Ti Sport. So, price! But I wanted it because the 4 cylinder is considerably more powerful and (surprisingly, since bmw underrated) a lot quicker - I think the Stelvio traps at about 100 in the quarter vs 95 or so for the X3. Plus, I owned a 2017 340i and found the ZF 8 speed to be way too slow in comfort and over aggressive in sport and feared the same for the x3. I love the Alfa ZF tuning. Lastly, just thought the Stelvio was cool. Is the interior as high quality? No, but the main touch points (steering wheel, sports seats, paddle shifters) were nicer IMO. It was also SIGNIFICANTLY more fun, way better steering and ride, and I have the performance package with adaptive dampers and the rear mechanical LSD, the former of which few x3’s have and the latter which no 4 cylinder x3’s have. X3’s are kind of a mom car to me, and I found the Stelvio to be fun, unique, and have a lot of personality. I really recommend driving one if you haven’t!
I own X3 m40i and its perfect as a family car with 2 kids. I have passive suspension and 20in staggered wheels so ride is stiff. Looking to upgrade to X3M probably next. The Macan is much smaller and rear seat is almost useless if you have kids with car seats.
As beautiful the exterior shots with the snow squall are, I very much feel the pain of shooting them 😄 But I fell like this would've been a good opportunity to try and compliment these weather conditions in the style of shooting...

I wanna like this car, but $90k should get you aluminum suspension links (vs stamped steel) in the rear too, no? Also the description of cardboard rear seats and not a lot better up front just kill me. Excellent review guys as always. The work you two put into these stands out to me. Just my 2¢ Currently: first gen BMW e46 330ci convertible bought new, and I recently traded in my 2013 Audi S4 for a new Audi A5 Sportback premium plus, S-Line - almost went S5 but tbh, but the 0-60 difference is ½ second, couldn’t get the saddle brown interior on the S5, and believe it or not I like the turn-in better with the lighter front end. Lastly the money, and a deal thru Costco, which my dealer (where I bought/serviced my S4) enhanced and gave me a great trade in value. Happy, but if done over would’ve gone Prestige Package for more safety tech, dynamic suspension, and changeable color interior lighting. Side note: semi-serious cyclists will love the A5,S5 or RS5 for the giant Sportback door and load floor (rear seats down, it’s as large as the A4 allroad in length) - it swallows up any $4-$11k road bike with wheels-on, and who wants to put that on a rack ;). Sorry to be so long winded, I almost never comment haha.

Every car guy/petrol head is that way. Heck I even watch minivan and by far the worst type of car for me personally, a small suv or cuv reviews because I'm interested in the car world overall.

Finally, someone understands what BMW is doing with their interiors. I hear far too often that BMW interiors are boring, and that they can’t keep up with Mercedes or Audi. That’s not true. I work for BMW, and have been told by Corporate that they want an easy to use layout, so that driver’s can focus on the road.
Well I wouldnt say boring, the interior leather and ambient lighting just makes it so much better, interior layout is nothing if there is no quality and with that, BMW delivers. BMW offers far more interior color choice than audi and Mercedes on most of there models, I think BMW interiors are great.
@@cowmath77 my point is, BMW refuses to go with flash over functionality. Everyone is already complaining about how Mercedes and Audi new interior screens washout in the sunlight, and how there’s fingerprints and dust everywhere.

Ah I think they are distinguishable mainly because of the size, expecially as m-cars. The otherday I saw an x7 next to an x5 and didn't know if i was looking at an x3 and x5 or not tho
As a truck driver I can say you almost never see these vehicles in places where you can hit it hard. The majority of the go fast cars I see are downtown in the most packed parts of the city. Street lights every 8th of a mile. All of this to say 0 to 60 in 3 secs but these owners rarely tap into half of that.
Come to boca raton, we've got soccer moms and 16 y/o girls absolutely FLYING from stoplight to stoplight in cars like these.

Totally agree - I've been praising them since the E90 flat-top dash.
Not really related, but this "boring" interior is why I prefer the 7 series over the S class. Not too many screens going on in the interior. I just hope their exterior designs become more cohesive going forward. The new 3 and 4 series, the i series cars and the XM aren't looking good at all, and that will hurt the brand image.

Usually I agree with you two but I drove the m40i x3 and the maccan back to back and i loved the x3 more. The iDrive is so good that I never use apple car play anymore. The engine is superb and one of the smoothest turbo charged engines in the game. The m version sounds even better.
The X3 M40i is a little bit less precise than a Macan, but it has more character. Sometimes a car being a bit 'too perfect' is not quite as fun ... The B58 (particularly how they tuned it in the M40i at 382hp) is all rough and rumbly and has torque at just about every RPM, while still being smooth when you don't push it. I enjoy it very much too. And while it's not as fast as a X3M (B58 vs S58), it's still plenty powerful and it has a much better ride than the X3M, particularly with the 19" wheels ... I think it's a better compromise for road usage honestly.

The Macan is very nice but it feels like a compact hatch to me (I’m 6’4”) It doesn’t feel nearly as great as everyone says. They are beautiful and do all of the things really well, but I feel like the purpose of the Macan in this world is to give auto journalists a foil for which to play other vehicles against…a magical Halo vehicle that everyone tells you is perfect, best ever but no one but some journalists have actually driven in top trim with all of the things. Then I wonder, what is it about the Macan that makes it so magical for someone and after driving one…I don’t see it. Around town you could not tell me it’s better than another quasi-comparable option. I think the Macan at its limit
might be as magical as people claim, but for normal hooning there is absolutely no way I’d walk away from it saying, wow that is the best of its kind. Ever. No fricking way it’s good, really good, great even…but vehicles have character and Macan represents a refined character but not necessarily the most desirable character. I think the Macan exists simply as a tool used by journalists to try and keep car companies honest and not too big for their britches.

"you're not buying this as a sports car replacement" I bought an X4M Comp precisely because I could not get a Z or a Supra down my steep drive into the garage. So while an SUV suited me for towing jetskis, accessing an incredibly steep driveway and general coastal lifestyle I did have my heart set on traditional sports car so the performance & handling as well as the practicality were up there for me.

Mark and Jack understand "boring" BMW interiors. When one desires a functioning interior, the design coalesces around one particularly functional design. Physical controls are not completely abandoned for deep menus for immediately needed controls. Alternatively available user designated shortcut switches are available. The owner can make the information systems work for them rather than being forced to adapt to some pretty abstract video game parlor design.

What's funny is BMW kind of invented the useless interior in 2002 with the e65 and have since come full circle and now build some of the most useable modern interiors for high end cars.
And now they are, smh unless you ordered one in the first year they now all come with the new giant screen iDrive 8 interior. People say it’s not all that bad but no way it’s better than physical controls, screens are great for most things but climate control or volume control physical controls are so much better.

Comparatively The X3 M40i is just superb!
THE X3 M40i is the car I ended up purchasing over the more ridged ride of The X3 M which is absolutely phenomenal. It simply came down to which car “rides/drives” the very best as daily driver in fun full send beast-mode and as a regular daily driver. This is the best review for this car and it covers the one thing this car has yet to address *ride quality.
I’d love to see a side by side comparison review of the X3 M (non-competition) and the X3 M40i.
Lastly, the summer tires that these cars come equipped with are fantastic for “SUMMER” the same tires in the “All Season” variant the Yokohama AdvanSport / AS simply make this car a flat out joy to drive! Better stopping and takeoff when temps are below 45F as they are now!

I remember when iDrive first came out, and people just tore into it for needing way too many steps to get something done. But it sounds like being persistent in improving it over the years has paid off for BMW. (Lexus, you listening?)
Ditto, I-drive was the worst product in the market when it was created. To hear this praise now is amazing.
These things are 13 years old by now, dont think much have changed since then except cosmetics. So I dont know if I would call it news exactly.
I've had 4 versions of iDrive over the years. It has improved significantly in each rev, for the most part. I actually think iDrive 6 was the best of them, rather than iDrive 7 in my current car. It was VERY intuitive for use with the iDrive wheel. 7 was born with Touch Screen assumed, and some features are now a little awkward to use with just the wheel (which is easier to use while moving without taking your eyes off the road at all). Thankfully, the voice commands have improved and do work for most of the slightly awkward bits of the OS.

Living vicariously through Mark and Jack! @Jack you were right about the NX. We picked it up last Saturday (F sport with all the bells and whistles and to be honest, I’m a bit underwhelmed! I’d buy this if the NX wasn’t my wife’s car! On the flip side, my IS500 is arriving next month!!
Curious to hear about your IS500 sir. I'll be honest, it's a tough sell for me over the M340i personally. And I say personally, because I already have a V8 rwd sportscar for the summer--I think I would want a more sober daily vehicle than the IS500. That means AWD, larger cabin, better tech, etc.. but, on the flip side, you have the long term Lexus reliability, which what you also want for daily driver.

And for us, the IS500 became the right car due to the V8 (I’ll be parting ways from my E39 M5), we have had more lively cars too (Porsche 911 and Caymans) which are too low for my wife since she had a knee procedure, and so the IS500 offers that combo of retro, luxury, and analog that I was looking to get. For me, its not about going fast, it’s about the handling and connecting with the car as your reach speed. The M340 is a phenomenal car, but after spending way too much money in modern BMW maintenance, I promised the wife that I would lean towards reliability which “limits” me to her own perception of reliability based on “facts” which is Lexus and Porsche. So at this price range, for us this would be a well equipped Macan/Macan S or the IS500 and I prefer the understated (somewhat) perception of the Lexus vs the Porsche and lower maintenance costs. Again, I’m a unique use case, but from the dealer that I have been working with, most people are looking for a reasonably fun, luxurious ride and are long term Lexus fans. Perhaps the same folks that wanted a GSF but didn’t pull the trigger at the time.

Always find it interesting when youtubers still comment on capacitive touch buttons for favorites in BMWs. I have these in a very entry level E90 from 13+ years ago and never use them
I have 10k on my 2020 and everything you said is spot on! For the average enthusiast the X3M 40I with the B58 is a way better proposition but I traded that in for this and the S58. The turbo motor that sounds, revs and acts like a NA. Revs to 7200rpm maybe 7400 limiter. I love the Idrive 6 with the old fashion speedo and tach in the 2020 and not all the complicated menus and metal on the dash. If you turn off all the nanny's mdm/dsc there is nothing to save you except your skills. Every time I fire her up I feel like I am going for a ride not a drive. I plan on keeping this one for a long time! I love that the average person has no idea that this will blow the doors off of 99% of anything on the road in acceleration and handling. Keep hating also because I like to drive rare cars that don't cost a fortune🤑 but are rare. The only thing that changed is it used to cost $30 to fill up now it is $60🤔.

Agree with the review. It’s a very rough ride for a daily driver. I test drove it with the OEM run flats and the ride was very harsh and jarring in comfort mode. I’m sure it would be better shod with regular tires.
Spot on with the bmw interior assessment. Everything just feels right ergonomically.
I test drove 2 GLC63S (1 SUV and 1 Coupe) and then felt like something was missing from the drive. (it didn't help that I just got out of my M2 to walk into the GLC test drive) I then test drove an X3M and immediately remembered what was missing; the driving engagement/fun to drive aspect. Although I do agree the X3M is on the firmer side, the GLC was the complete opposite and way too comfortable for it to be engaging, it felt disconnected from the road. I size down to 20" for winter setup here in Canada and it does help smooth out the stiffness a bit. Honestly at this price point there is nothing that drives like it in the segment other than the Stelvio Quadrifoglio but I heard too many reliability horrors with it to gamble with it. As always, great review !

Size down for summer as well tbh. Find a rim/tire size you're content with and keep the same dimensions but just swap winter/summer tires. It's an SUV not a gt3 RS... There is literally ZERO need for 21@s apart from cosmetically and quite honestly they impact the driving experience so are a negative overall.
That cool shortcut buttons feature that shows you what they do when you hover your finger on them is actually a long time(ish) BMW feature! My 2011 M3 had them, and im sure most other E9x cars (or at least LCI ones). Surprised me when I first discovered that they did that and thought it was really cool and well thought out by BMW. I used my shortcuts to turn off the iDrive hump screen and dark mode for the nav.
I just bought one in the same color exterior just different wheels and interior color. LOVE IT. Great video

Looks like you guys thought the suspension was unchanged, some people are saying the LCI is improved, or that a software update improved things, could just be a placebo. I live in Naples. All the complaints on the ride unfortunately make this baby a no-go for me. I do not find our roads to be smooth. The texture of them and NVH they cause is horrible.

Yup. At this point I don't know if he misspoke or if it's a jab at all BMWs being the same.
As a previous 2020 X3M owner I had 2 main gripes. The ride (as you mentioned in the video). The powerband. Unless you were using launch control it was a total dud under 60mph. Useless for stop and go daily driving. Above 60 it had so much power I couldn’t even use it because I was in triple digits in no time. Traded for an M340i. Not as fast in the quarter but that single turbo spools so much faster than the twins that it’s much better in traffic. I also picked up a trackhawk. That satisfied my off the line throttle response and softer ride suv. Not as refined or pretty as the X3M but I enjoy driving it much more than I did the X3M.
This is the most useful high powered SUV video I have come across. No one reviews cars for their performance in non ideal weather.
I used to be such a BMW hater but they are indeed making some great products these days. Great engines, great transmissions and tuning, good interiors and infotainment and the reliability is much improved. Thanks for the quick look at the updated X3M Mark and Jack.

May I ask why is it necessary to buy a SUV while the 3 series has plenty of space for a kid + has decent safety? Simply do not understand this false sense of safety what people feel in the SUV-s. Meanwhile everybody buys these shitcans and it is a nightmare to drive in town because of them.

Great review guys! My wife drives one daily and I always grab the keys when it's not being used. As far as the ride comfort, the aftermarket solves this. We run MSS adjustable springs coupled with the stock active dampeners. The softer rates have improved the ride and my two kids haven't complained at all on roadtrips. Have serviced it twice at BMW dealerships and they haven't said anything about the adj springs or denied any claims (they replaced a whole headlight assembly because of led failure). I love this thing 🥳

Half of the problem with ALL new cars and people complaining about harsh rides is the fact they have SUV's running on low(ish) profile tires and 21's. There just isn't enough cushioning between the last metal point of contact and the road. Best solution for an x3m? Go down to 20's and a 10mm wider tire front and rear along with a one size larger profile than stock so 255/40r21 to 265/45r20 for example. It makes all the difference, suits the car looking meaty and helps ride quality without ripping the OEM suspension out.
Personal opinion but low profiles on cars nowadays is fucking gaudy and pointless. It's nothing more than a vanity item as the majority of owners will never push their car enough ON TRACK to warrant rim/tire setups brands give you from the showroom. Bit of a rant lol.
Honestly most dealerships don’t care, bmw is the one that cares and they won’t single you out, unless you have a tune and you keep breaking parts then that’s when you gotta worry, we got modified cars with meth injection all the time and they’re still fine regarding warranty

Back when they first came out I test drove the X3 M40i and SQ5 back to back.. The X3 blew my mind as to how sharp and focused it was. The Audi on the other hand was like a fast mattress. So cozy and isolated. I walked away that day with the Audi as my pick because I loved the top notch ride and cabin isolation. The powertrain of the Audi was adequate but far from remarkable. The powertrain of the BMW was unforgettable, however. I've seen and heard so many comments about the bad ride in the X3m, I wouldn't be able to consider one on that alone. It sure is a mean machine, though! I wonder if the refreshed M40i is any improvement in ride comfort over the M.. So glad BMW is somewhat "back".. Another great review, boys!
I really don't get the sporty suvs, specially when they compromise on the suv advantages which are ride and space. Audi does them excellent because they are still very comfortable which is what people want on a daily suv, but it is plenty fast for when you want to race someone or just have fun. If you want a very sharp and focused vehicle, just get a car and not an suv.
@@evaristocorripio5434 only advantage an suv has is the clearance height which also allows for higher visual depth. Good for driving in heavy traffic with trucks blocking exit signs on the highway. Not so great at cutting lanes at high speeds. 1 slip u dead
I feel the same way about mazda6 info system. Flawed at start up and camera resolution, but easy, fast and the dial works great while driving

I have a 2016 X5. Just the 30D with SE suspension but sports seats and nice wheels. The Idrive pro and licence update is just the best. Period. 7 seats and tow bar. Done.

I just swapped my 21 BMW M2 competition for a 2022 X3M competition, and many people look at the price tag and think it's alot but when you look at the performance numbers this is like BMW mini trackhawk, it defies physics in so many ways. This thing can pretty much annihilate anything on the road in it's stock form, when you see what any srt product is currently going for, this is pretty much bang for your buck and way more upscale than those vehicles when you consider this to be at least $15-20k less in the current market , it becomes an enticing offering, once you drive sports cars and use to the ride that sports cars are supposed to have this honestly isn't as bad as advertised by some reviewers but some people don't understand what they are signing up for and think they will be gliding on Aladdin's carpet but I daily drive this and it is truly a joy to drive and this is a keeper in the long term

I probably would've just bought a track Hawk. I don't think I would've ever thought about buying a Jeep over a BMW, but the track Hawk probably has better resale and it's about as reliable as current BMW products

Love it. I work in valet parking and unfortunately can not drive cars very fast, or for very long. But I have been in a lot of cars, from luxury SUVs to Ferraris. That said, the feel of the X3M, or even the X340i is amazing. They sound awesome. The interiors are great. I totally get the Macan, but there's something about a hotrod BMW X3.

I've had an F85 X5M and loved it, but I am really drawn to this thing! I need to go test drive one of these.
Have put 7000 miles on my X3M Comp. Coming from GLC 43 and GLS 450. I decided on this over the Macan purely due to the raw fun it provided.
How did it compare with the GLC 43? Loved that car but I never but want to try this X3 m comp really badly. How would you compare it?
Very well done guys!! Owned a macan turbo and went to a x4mcomp. Agree the porsche is so competent but that same competency makes it boring day to day. The x4mcomp rawness is so different than anything on the market and it's the only suv that gives me that experience that only Sports cars are usually only able to provide. Not to mention x4mc is in a different league when it comes to speed than a macan. Most important although you mention it's a bit harsh, you realize that there is a component of of people who specifically want that from an M car and especially a comp, very few of the other reviewers seem to understand that. That handling capability and its ability to communicate what the road surface is saying(through the seat, not so much steering) is what seperates it from the others.
Great video guys, though I would add one note - an X3 has far, far more space than a Macan. I’m 6’2 and considered both those, a Stelvio (which I ended up getting), and a few others like the XC60 and SQ5. I could fit behind myself with room to spare in all of them with the Stelvio being tight, but the Macan was an entirely different level. If you ever have anyone in the backseat or use cargo capacity, the Macan is simply too small - smaller even than my GTI. That could be a deciding factor and I think was glossed over.

What made you decide for Alfa Romeo and not BMW?
Yes I totally agree. I have a first gen q5. I assumed the macan being closely related would be similar size. It's slightly smaller on the outside but somehow significantly smaller on the inside.
Agreed. I've been considering a Macan and that's part of my hesitation. I have an XC60 R design currently and the back seat is really nice! I wish it had some recline, but I rode half way cross-country back there and it was wonderful! The climate controls in the second row really help with overall comfort.
@@JavonAnonimni Got it back in 2019 and got $11k (yes, really) off a $55k Stelvio Ti Sport. So, price! But I wanted it because the 4 cylinder is considerably more powerful and (surprisingly, since bmw underrated) a lot quicker - I think the Stelvio traps at about 100 in the quarter vs 95 or so for the X3. Plus, I owned a 2017 340i and found the ZF 8 speed to be way too slow in comfort and over aggressive in sport and feared the same for the x3. I love the Alfa ZF tuning.
Lastly, just thought the Stelvio was cool. Is the interior as high quality? No, but the main touch points (steering wheel, sports seats, paddle shifters) were nicer IMO. It was also SIGNIFICANTLY more fun, way better steering and ride, and I have the performance package with adaptive dampers and the rear mechanical LSD, the former of which few x3’s have and the latter which no 4 cylinder x3’s have.
X3’s are kind of a mom car to me, and I found the Stelvio to be fun, unique, and have a lot of personality. I really recommend driving one if you haven’t!

Currently leasing a 2021 X3 M40…. When I’m the lease is up in a couple of years, I’ll lease a X3M, really like the X3.
I own X3 m40i and its perfect as a family car with 2 kids. I have passive suspension and 20in staggered wheels so ride is stiff. Looking to upgrade to X3M probably next. The Macan is much smaller and rear seat is almost useless if you have kids with car seats.
How old are your kids? With the huge car seats they design now do the kids have leg room?

I wanna like this car, but $90k should get you aluminum suspension links (vs stamped steel) in the rear too, no? Also the description of cardboard rear seats and not a lot better up front just kill me. Excellent review guys as always. The work you two put into these stands out to me. Just my 2¢
Currently: first gen BMW e46 330ci convertible bought new, and I recently traded in my 2013 Audi S4 for a new Audi A5 Sportback premium plus, S-Line - almost went S5 but tbh, but the 0-60 difference is ½ second, couldn’t get the saddle brown interior on the S5, and believe it or not I like the turn-in better with the lighter front end. Lastly the money, and a deal thru Costco, which my dealer (where I bought/serviced my S4) enhanced and gave me a great trade in value. Happy, but if done over would’ve gone Prestige Package for more safety tech, dynamic suspension, and changeable color interior lighting. Side note: semi-serious cyclists will love the A5,S5 or RS5 for the giant Sportback door and load floor (rear seats down, it’s as large as the A4 allroad in length) - it swallows up any $4-$11k road bike with wheels-on, and who wants to put that on a rack ;).
