As my favorite Doctor I like all of the Smith Era but I can for sure attest to the fact that Series 7B was the best piece to come out of it. It was immaculate, remaining cinematic and alluring for the almost the whole duration! 11’s chemistry with Clara was also adorable, and I’d give up one of my kidneys to have a whole other series dedicated to them.

It was honestly the most I'd loved DW since the departure of RTD, and so much of that had to do with the sense of adventure in these episodes and the vibrancy and heart Clara brought to the show. I just had a massive realization. Moffats "No Doctor" 50th script we always hear about MUSTVE involved Clara chasing the GI around the doctors timestream, stopping him at pivital moments (say perhaps scenes and locations from classic episodes where the doctor is offscreen while Clara and the Gi fight it out). I cant think how else one would pull off a "Doctorless" script for the 50th but the setup is perfectly there to honor all eras of DW (obviously couldnt have been as good as anything WITH THE DOCTOR lol).

Diana Rigg was having tons of fun in that role. She was in her twilight years, so she was just enjoying the time she had left. She once joked after a near death experience that "the good Lord must have said 'send the old bag down again, I'm not having her yet!" so clearly she was a woman with a great sense of humour who wanted to enjoy life. She was more serious when she worked with Jenna Coleman again in Victoria but even in that series, her character introduced herself with such an over-the-top bow that Victoria gave her a "what the fuck are you doing?" look.

I think the reason the Doctor saving Gallifrey instead of destroying it works is because he had something he was missing last time… a companion, a friend, someone to ground him and give him hope.
Without Clara, the Doctor would’ve destroyed Gallifrey all over again.
Just like how without Clara, the Doctor would’ve died on Trenzelore.
I think it was inevitable that Gallifrey would be brought back, and the 50th Anniversary was the perfect time to do so.
I can’t be the only one who thinks “The Day of the Doctor” could easily act as an ending to the show. The classic series began with him running from home, the revival began with his guilt over destroying his home world. “The Day of the Doctor” ends with the Doctor saving Gallifrey and heading home.
Of course Chris Chibnall had to ruin it by destroying Gallifrey offscreen. Unless someone retcons that as a decoy or reconstruction of Gallifrey. Apparently the Skaro that was blown up in “Remembrance of the Daleks” was a decoy. I guess terraforming does exist.

I honestly don't know why people dislike Season 7, I like the whole thing - A and B. It's my second-favourite Eleventh Doctor season, with Season 5 being one of my favourite eras in all of Doctor Who.
I actually think that Season 7 and its specials (especially Day of the Doctor) was the last time I truly loved modern Who. As much as I like Capaldi's Doctor, Season 8 and 9 were very iffy for me, before a renewed interest in Season 10 and Twice Upon a Time, before forcing myself to soldier on through the early Chibnall years and then finally giving up midway through Flux.
So maybe it's just nostalgia, but I look back on Season 7 with great fondness.

Because of my husband's disability and a bunch of insurance issues causing us not to be covered one month that happened just when I had a heart attack & was in the hospital for a week, we ended up having to rework our budget and give up paid tv, so about halfway through the 12th Doctor's run. Of course I was devastated, but I had just survived a major heart attack, so I was just happy to be alive! Now things are much better financially, so I am getting ready to get my paid tv back so I can watch Doctor Who when the next episode premieres!! I have to catch up by watching my dvd set of the 12th Doctor episodes, and I am getting ready to buy the complete 13th Doctor episodes dvd set so I'll be ready. Anyway, as much as I love the 9th and 10th Doctors and the 12th Doctor, (who really had to grow on me as I was very unsure of him at first, but by the last few episodes I saw of his, I absolutely loved him!), Matt Smith's 11th Doctor is my favorite- ALL of his shows - as I love the whole story of Amy, of River Song, of Rory, Clara and the Weeping Angels in Manhatten... The storylines of all those episodes... I think the writing, the acting, the overall look of the sets - are all amazing. I love it all!! Thanks for the video!!!

I agree that 7B is unfairly hated. This was my fave Smith series. I didn’t really ever warm to him until this season, so when I got emotional about his regeneration it was a surprise. The same happened to me with the Ponds and 7A, the first time I actually started to like them.

Your evaluation of the Doctor's death paradox/loop hole makes sense, except for one thing... the eyebrows. Both from a viewer perspective and Doctor perspective we should not have seen 12s eyebrows. We all see the eyebrows The Day of but are still expected to feel jeopardy that 11 won't regenerate. 11 would have communicated with 12 offscreen to tell him what to do in The Day of and Clara may have seen this. It was a fun moment but added a plot hole for me.

I've always thought the stories in 7B were solid and always found myself rewatching them more than the ones in 7A, I just never particularly gelled with Clara or found the Impossible Girl thing interesting. Smith, the creatures and the stories though have always been favourites of mine, particularly Rings of Akhaten. That will always hold a special place in my heart and is such a good first adventure for a companion. Plus we got The Long Song from it.

I am a relatively new fan to Doctor Who having only started the series for the first time close to a year ago, but goodness I must have rewatched it all so many times by now reliving my favorites over and over again and sharing it with all of my loved ones. It is easily my favorite show I've ever watched and I have yet to finish Series 9 I'm about halfway as I type this comment.
7b is absolutely, without a doubt, my favorite series and era of this show. I adore the character of Clara Oswald, I think she's the best companion and a contender for the best character in the show. I thought her chemistry and relationship with the doctor was so very fun to watch and their romance was endearing. I wish more than anything that they'd gotten more time and more adventures together. But I am loving Capaldi's stuff so far and I'm glad we got everything the way it happened.

Oh and I forgot to add this in my original comment but when I say 7 is my favorite series of Doctor Who that is also including 7a, even though 7b was my preferred and favorite part. Even as a person who wasn't super into Amy and Rory as companions I felt they were at their best in this series as brief as it was. I actually really wish they had just one more episode that was a Doctor and Rory focused adventure both trying to save Amy or something like that.

I am one of the few people whose favourite companion is Clara(11 and Clara are my favourite Doctor-Companion pair, second only to 12 and Clara) and who has 7B as one of their favourites. I even semi-ship 11 and Clara but even I find it strange how horny, for the lack of a better word, 11 is towards Clara. I much prefer it when Clara says something and 11 gets flustered like her response to "Doing young thing with young people" instead of talking about how tight her skirt is.
I wish we had gotten a whole season with the two of them but everything ends it never feels like you had enough time. Which is a fitting end for 11 and Clara because Clara herself didn’t feel like she had enough time with 11
28:40 I actually like how they saved Gallifrey for 2 reasons. 1)There wasn’t much more you could have done with it being destroyed. 9 had an amazing arc and 10 and 11 carried it very well. Shame it got destroyed again 3 seasons later. 2)It felt like great gift for the Doctor in universe, like the Universe itself was celebrating the 50th anniversery. And I am willing to forgive it being a very optimistic turn since it’s the Doctor, they always give hope to people they met and save them but for the first time since 2005 they were able to do so for themselves. It was a very nice way to handle the 50th anniversery

After watching the entire 11 tenure for the 1st time, I feel it’s a little too metatextual. (Doctor Who? Etc) there are some great stories in there and 11 is my 2nd favorite doctor behind 10. Clara is great and I could never get over Amy’s series 5ness. I’m very mixed, probably in need of a rewatch but 7B was definitely my favorite of 11’s tenure as a whole. They dived into the nitty gritty and wrote something really great here. Can’t wait to get into Capaldi.

This 7b serie is my favorite behind 4 serie (Donna's serie, only flaw is that 4 just was too short for me) and Clara is my favorite companion after Donna (she is little like cocky Donna), with River and Rory fighting for 3. place, maybe 2. I would like to think, that because Clara saw his grave and saw his life when she became Impossible girl, she was able to go back to him and pressure Time Lords (because she understand him unique way). Serie 7b has some flaws that could be easily fixed, like explaining that Great Inteligence was destroyed when he attacked Doctor's timeline and Clara did simply fixed it after him and endured longer. Or that revival device did Doctor obtained after whole Devil run fiasco and his companions have it to prevent similar incidents from happening etc. Few lines could change finding excuses for reviving characters to showing continuity and ability to learn.

Series 7B is seriously underated. It's not perfect, but what Who series is? 11 was never my favorite Doctor, I found him to be a little bit too goofball a lot of the time in series 5 and 6, but in 7 he gets more serious and that's where he starts to stand out more for me. Everyone will always associate him to the Ponds, and Amy in particular, but his chemistry with Clara was sublime and his curiosity about who she really was was all consuming to him, but in the end they found a way to care for and love each other in a tender way. She brought him back to life, literally multiple times in his timeline, but also with the death of Victorain Clara she brought him back to the land of the living after he had decided to go into self-exile and not deal with the world or adventures anymore after he lost Amy and Rory.
I will admit whole heartedly that I LOVE Clara as a companion, and as a person overall. She was the reason I finally decided to watch episodes of Doctor Who after having seen only bits and pieces of it online. I bought Series 7, 8 and 9 , the Matt Smith Christmas specials and the 50th anniversary dvd's all because SHE was in them! 😅 And she didn't disappoint, and neither did series 7 either. It was too bad that her and 11 didn't have an entire series together before he regenerated, Half a series was simply too little time for them to build off of each other. Just when it was getting good and and interesting, the series ends. I love Clara's rapport with 12, they're perfect together, but she could have benifited by having more time with 11 as well. I stand with Harbo in saying I'm a simp for Clara, I don't care if others hate or don't understand her, she's great for me and Jenna Coleman was perfect in the role. If she ever comes back again to the franchise I will be the first in line to buy the next dvd compilation with her episode in it. 👍

Jenna Coleman's the walking, talking definition of too good to be true. That's the scary thing about her. The Doctor himself was paranoid about Clara for precisely that reason. There's no such thing as a perfect human being but Jenna has mastered the ILLUSION of a perfect human being, which is impressive, frustrating and terrifying all at once. It's a lot like Queen Elizabeth, may she rest in peace, because she successfully managed to maintain her image as a perfect Queen for her entire life.

    • @kenthomas505
      @kenthomas505 Год назад

@@tomnorton4277 I suppose it's true, Jenna (and by extension Clara) is too good to be true. I never considered her to be the perfect human being, but maybe the Doctor did. She was an illusion in that the Doctor saw the paradox she represented instead of the woman herself. She did frusterate and maybe even terrify him because he couldn't understand how she kept appearing throughout space and time. After all she wasn't a Time Lord. Interesting comparison between her illusion and that of Queen Elizabeth and how she kept her public persona totally separated from her hidden private one.
