  • Today we choose to emphasize a relationship between two complementary colors in our palette - our earthy red and our greenish grey. And we're not only going to put them together so that they can magnify each other's qualities (to this day, this trait of complementaries still amazes me) but we're going to use their relationship to model form. Because of the physiology of our visual perception and how we understand the colors that are visible to us a a species, we're able to trick our brain into thinking that when green and red are together, one of them can recede and the other can come forward in "space" depicting three-dimensionality. Oooofff, this is nothing short of miraculous to me. So we're simplifying a very simple palette in order to push the dynamics between two of the hues that are available. And yes, we're dropping a bit of bluish grey to offset things a little bit :)

I always go thru with it, even if it doesn't work or its crap, I think 🤔 you learn more, but it can bring some surprises, I have done rubbish paintings but sometimes really enjoyed them, I look for something in the painting that is good, keep up the great work and love your tutorials

“...we need those moments too...we don’t need every painting to be an absolute success...we need those moments where we are investigating how far we can push, how much we think we know, how solid our foundations are...because those are the moments that are going to teach us.” (10:40) ❤️❤️❤️

You can tell this subject matter is close to your heart. The painting has an incredible instinctive quality (and could be finished) at 4:10. :)

Hi Nicolas, your natural way of communicating your thoughts, around your own painting process and your ideas about art, are very inspiring and enlightening. Jodi Lee mentioned 'your book' somewhat kiddingly I suppose, but I think that's quite a good idea! So again: when 's it due? ;-)

PD.: Éste retrato me pareció especialmente cautivador.

Hi Nicolas I think I have a solution for your hand day counting, you could use some ASL, the number signs are very simple and I think it's pretty interesting to learn or you could use some Colombian sign language.
PS: your work and dedication it's incredible big inspiration, saludos desde México amigo✨

Hola!
