Friday, Week 6: Gökhan - Value Keys, Oil on Paper (14/02/2020)

Gökhan. A painting of the awesome painter @gokhan_gokseven 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌. Met him when I went to NYAA to visit my friend @estebanog_art, one of the most talented painters today in Colombia (and the world)! Gökhan is currently doing some crazy cool work. This small painting is a reminder of something that is especially true in his work, alongside other phenomenal painters like @andrewhem and @sangram_majumdar, which is that you can generate vibrating contrast thru saturation, while maintaining your key. In this case we can preserve an overall darker midtone for background and figure, while providing contrast within the figure thru the brightness and saturation of the cad red ears created by subsurface scattering (yup, that's what Sorolla called this lighting condition 100 yrs ago 🙄😂).
