- Welcome to week 11! Today and throughout the week, we will try and redefine what inside-outside means to us. Our perception of interior-exterior is changing by the minute. The nature of what we once understood as quotidian, every-day life has transformed. But that doesn't mean that this universe is less magnificent, and that our humanity can't be maintained. Painting as contemplation is now more than ever a reminder that , while this may be our job, the real value of what we do lies in the act of painting and the reflection that accompanies it. Today I paint Dani, because even if I was outside, surrounded by people, I would paint her. She is coming out for sun, during the tiniest window of time that we have in our apartment, if weather allows for it of course. Inside there is coolness, outside there is warmth. But that very warmth that was once comforting, is now one of the few things in nature that we allow our bodies to touch. And yet, Dani and I remain hopeful, because underneath it all, there is always an opportunity to learn and a chance to come out a better human being once this is over. We're honored to be your company for this week!

I can’t understate how happy this upload made me. Watching you construct this, your thought process behind it, the anecdotes, everything just... Fulfilled me in a really profound way. I’ve loved your work for years now and this all encapsulated everything that’s drawn me to it this whole time. I literally thought “wow. Wow. Wow. “ over and over watching it lol. Un millón de gracias hermano. Stay safe out there, and thanks again for everything you do.
I love love LOVE this week's theme! Thank you for keeping us company in these weird times. Fantastic painting as usual, your adoration for Dani (and her nose!) is the cutest thing ever and it shows in your brushwork. Thank you!
Finally someone talking about that "never go bigger than life size" thing! I mean, if we are working with comparative measurement I don't see the connection with that statement. We still have to compare the size of things with the things that we already have on paper.
“We are going through exactly the same thing...this has connected us.” (16:23) ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you , Muchas gracias Nicolas...
Very nice brush work, face modeling and video. Keep it up :)
LOVE this painting!! your videos are always excellent ! ur extremely well spoken + articulate, too!
I love watching your videos. I look forward to them each week. I love the artists that you mention and I jot down their names if I am unfamiliar with them and I look them up and I go "WOW! I know what he means!" You and your family please stay safe and healthy. I appreciate what you do so very much.
just love these...thanks so much.
The sincerity and strength of Dani’s look as painted by you is momentous. I like your concept of inside-outside. Plus the colours you used today singggg to me. Thank you for your steadfast support and light.
Stay safe and healthy guys, I enjoy every single video, thank you for making life a better place
lovely video, thanks for the company
How wonderful this is. Thank you 🙏🏻
Beautiful.... Love the colours around and in the eyes. And the intriguing theme for this week! Thank you!
Buenísimo. Podría mostrar en un cuadrito pequeño su paleta? Me ayudaría muchísimo a entender muchas cosas. Gracias!
This upload made me really happy, I can't wait what you have coming next
Love how you left the collar and space surrounding her left eye scraped back, the saturated blue in her eyes, value changes/shapes in her lips....so I hope you don’t mind that I say a favorite part of the painting for me was when with just three touches of a brush, three notes of color, you painted that little earring. (15:13 )I’ve noticed the earrings you paint in other portraits of Dani too...I know it’s so tiny, and not what the larger message is about....but for some reason I notice and love those small abstracted moments so much! There is always wonder how three touches of a brush can say something so much bigger I guess. Beautiful portrait all around...that earring though 🤍!
so much great content !
Fantastic work again 😁
you are so inspiring, I love your work, such skill and vision
would love to see a week with just a big brush
keep up the amazing work!
When you had mentioned the workshop and how he told you never paint heads larger than life First person that popped into my head was Jenny Saville hahah she’s brilliant
I was wondering if it was like it is in America over there. I love how she glows especially in the eyes. For those of us that have brown eyes they can still glow !
Gracias N 🎋
I'm a huge believer in large brushes! I was working on a 48x48" diptic (so 2 four ft pannels) and I attached the largest brush I owned to a 3ft pole so I wouldn't get tunnel vision. It was super fun! And as I progressed, I then went to smaller brushes.
Edit: They were two large portraits haha XD
Love it!!
awesome, really really love this painting and everything you said. Shouts out from an apartment in Vancouver, Canada :)
Do you have a video noting palette of colours, etc. and what you are painting on. Thanks
Estudio en una ciudad distinta de la que vivo y me olvidé todos los materiales en la facultad. No puedo pintar hasta que acabe.
No importa Javier, a dibujar entonces!!!🥰🥰🥰
