That last bit you said, about what's beyond the technical aspect of painting, it's something I've been thinking about over and over the past months. Being self-taught I've been learning through reading, watching and practicing anything I was fascinated by, after years of true struggles I got to a point where painting is starting to feel (most of the times) somehow "comfortable", just like you said. Not comfortable like "I can paint anything and make a masterpiece out of it", but like "I can start a journey and land that ship somewhere safe, not always where I wanted to, but always somewhere a bit closer to the destination". And that totally opens up a new giant and scary place and now I know I'm moving through it, slowly, quietly, but nevertheless I'm moving in it. I would love to hear you talk more about this, I've been following your work for years and you've always been a huge source of inspiration and answers, discovering how you're planning your own journey is so helpful to understand how to better plan mine. Finding out the "hows" of painting is great, how to render that, how to draw that, but deep down painting is a lot more about the "whys" and hearing you talk lately has been of great help. Thanks a lot, Nicolas!

Marco C I have been painting for at least 60 yr and feel much as you do....lol.....I take as many weekend sessions with artists in my area that I admire that is affordable for me and in a way though it has taken so many decades longer possibly than if I had been allowed to go to a fine art school, the journey has been good. It is good to learn from many good books, learning to use your eyes and experimenting, following other artists that excite you.....I guess, with the artsy fartsy friends I have had for years it is a great journey. We help each other in a very loving way and it makes life worth living.

These videos are such an amazing resource for us wannabe painters. And the work is beautiful. Love that you addressed your deliberate choice of brushes here; please continue doing that. Please also tell us a little about your palette also if you don’t mind.

Amazing content Nicolas thank you for sharing your thoughts and your art to all of us! One thing i have been to ask is that: Your aproach is in Alla prima for this paintings which is perfect for this smaller sizes. But how about in a bigger sizes? how you would aproach the painting and benifit from the alla prima characteristics, say like freshness and even finish of the painting. I would love to see you touch on that aspect. As i like also to paint in Alla prima but i find much harder on larger sizes so i have to work on sections and finish each section when i tackle it. Thank you and cheers from Portugal :)

Best video yet! I'm a huge fan of Sorolla and can really see his influence here. Thank you for providing the high res image as well. You are already providing so many great free resources. But I'm wondering if you've though about providing a reference photo of the real life reference for your painting? I know you are working from life alot of the time and reference photos flatten arw not that great to work from. IBut it would be so interesting to see you've translated and seen shapes in nature

I love your channel and the paintings you make, they are fabulous. Could you tell me if the paper that you use is primed with anything, or is it a special type of paper for oils? Practicing on canvases can be expensive and takes up a lot of space eventually, so I would love to start using paper. Do you have any recommendations ?

Hello Nicolas! Thanks a lot for these videos! One question, are you using oil or acrylic paint? I saw the video where you showed the paint, but in my ignorance I can't tell if it's oil or acrylic! :D Many thanks, Stefan

Do you teach aside from being an artist? You should if you don’t already aside from these tutorials. You sure talk a lot! (I am only saying this in a good way). You focus on a lot of good points and interesting information while you paint. Would like to see what you are looking at when you are painting though as it would help when you are discussing color and light.
