Will be tackling this later on this week on my 94 GT. Leaking gas after I filled her up right from the filler neck garment can see it right behind passenger rear tire. Thank you for the well put together video.
I have the exact same issue on the same exact car so I’m glad to finally come across a video that tackles the same issue/car, thanks a lot man you saved me a good amount of hassle
@@gregmartinez6426 This was a while ago. Job was easy. Did not need to drop or lower the tank. The grommet is a tight fit. Dropped it into the tank first go around Lol. Fishing line and live bait hook got it out first try. Get it done! Have a good week.
There are different grommets for the 2 or 3, 19998 versions of the mustang. There were different builds of the 98 mustang. Vin dates mine at Feb 98. The earlier version (mine's a GT 'vert 4.6L) uses OEM pn F8ZZ-9072-AC Recommended as "Only for the 98 Mustang" in part descriptions. Not for the grommets you'll find recommended as for: "98-04 Mustang or 96-98 Mustang". The difference is that the hole size in the tank and the diameter of the filler pipe are both about 1/4" or so smaller on the early 98 version...that was a fun lesson to learn.
Thanks for the video man, very helpful! :) But for future reference, if you ever have to do this again, it's way easier if you drop the tank (preferably with less than an 1/8th of fuel) and remove the straps along with all other necessary components. Thank you can pull the filler neck out from the tank after lowering the driver side 1st.
8:30 in the video I explain about lower the fuel tank. You have to lower one side more so you can have more room to pull it out. It is not easy to pull it out. I remember having to pull very hard. Hope this helps you. Feel free to update me on your progress. Best of luck.
This video is old as shit lol but 5:52 My ‘98 GT did the same thing, the part of the gasket that goes inside the tank broke off inside and started breaking apart. At a full tank it didn’t cause issues, but when fuel got lower the debris would suck up against the fuel pump sock and restrict fuel, causing a “fuel cut” type issue. I did about 50 hours of research and racking my brain around fuel pump going out, injectors, the fuckiiinnnnn……. Box thing in the passenger front fender that has the fuel relay in it that everyone always says is bad, everything I could think of. Turns out the previous owner replaced the fuel pump, destroyed the fuel filler neck seal (but not enough for it to leak?) dropped a 1in. white/clear mesh wire loom and various other rubber pieces inside of the tank.
I broke the fuel tank filler pipe nipple that goes into the tank. It's not an easy job. I have a new pipe assembly coming. Wish me luck or this could get expensive.
@@Ironcory I got it back in but what I did was I heated it with a heat gun greased op the hole and the grommet and pushed it right in. Well if you do it once you'll never forget. 😂
I had just replaced the fuel filter I'm not about to drop the tank again, I'm glad I found this video, this was easier than dropping the tank though it does take a little longer

Save yourself some time and aggravation. Use a heat gun on the grommet to soften it up the grease the grommet and the hole and it pushes right in.
Enjoyed how you put detail into the video easy to follow. Keep up the great work
Thank you so much for the feedback! I made another RUclips channel called Ironcorylife and I will be posting mustang tutorials on there soon.

I bought a hand pump at True Value Hardware to pump out the gas from the tank and it worked splendidly.

How did you manage to pull the metal pipe out. Not coming out of my car. My mustang is a 98 gt

Let's see you put that dam thing in.
couldn't get a camera view but I do say how to get it out. Not easy to say the least.

@@AllenFrost-r1cYou heated the grommet and then just pushed it straight in or did you have to squeeze or angle it?
What you suggested worked . Thanks 👍 it was a while ago but it worked out fine.
Where did you get the fuel gasket
I got mine on Amazon
I went to a ford dealership.
You did one too many steps..easier just to run the tank to bone dry and drop it

@@dev894 You don't have to drop the tank to do the fuel filter...
@@gerald4535 meant pump not sure why I wrote filter
Jack stop
sorry but that is not how you do it.... o9 have seen other videos..... to start, no need to remove the gask entry cover...
