Hey Danny just did fuel pump and my P0190 code on 2003 Mach 1 is still here. I can start car and it will run for 10 secs before starting to stutter and die. I just did fuel pump today and also the fuel rail pressure sensor. Do you have any ideas what else it could be?
If I heard you correctly, you're replacing the OEM fuel pump with a pump that is normally used in the Focus ST. Do you have a part number for that fuel pump? Would it work for the 02 GT?
I cut a square on the trunk liner to get access to the fuel pump, it took me 15 minutes to change it. just be careful not to cut the wires. And use a sheet metal and silicone sealant to "repair"the cut.
@@atrocitus9804 Sorry for the late reply, hey the hole is going to be big, Once you open the trunk, is going to be almost 60% of the spare tire mold in the frame. because you have to access the wiring and fuel connectors. plus watch out with the sharp edges, too be honest, dropping the tank is way easier and less risky.
Great video! I'm about to change the dead fuel pump in my GT (which has a full 15 gallons of gas) and I noticed you didn't mention replacing the gasket between the tank and the fuel pump access cover. I didn't even see one on you car. Is there one and did you replace it?
Hey Danny, great vid like always. Question, my 1996 gt manual isn't running. The old starter fluid in the intake worked. I hear the pump prime in the "on" position. I checked the shrader valve and its bone dry, I checked the fuel pump power line near the tank and it only seems like half of the prongs are getting power...any suggestions? Thanks
Excellent tutorial😎😁👍💯 Quick question Danny. I have a 97 Mustang cobra and im upgrading my fuel pump to a bbk 255lph pump and I have a stock engine. Do I need to get a tune after installing the new pump??
I believe that is a return style system, so any extra pressure should be bypassed back to the tank via the regulator. In other words, you shouldn't have a problem. Now, if you're changing the regulator and/or injectors.. then yes.
Are you referring to the shrader valve on the drivers side near the plenum? If so, I did...dry. I'm thinking maybe the fuel regulator. Do you know where that's located?
Thank you for this great video! I followed your steps yesterday to change out the fuel pump on my 2004 GT, and everything went perfect. Except for the white connector at the front of the gas tank, at 8:00 minutes into your video. The connector broke just like yours did in the video. I removed the line at the next connector after it goes over the rear axle to get the line out for a replacement, and that connector also broke. both connectors are of the same type, and made onto the tube. The parts number sticker on the tube was unreadable. Please let me know where you found the part to replace this line with, or how you were able to fix it. Local Ford dealership can not find this fitting, or tube at all either. Thanks in advance.
@@paulesposito5649 I finally found fittings that worked from a company in Las Vegas Nv., not far from where I live. It's called ALL HOUSE SOUTH LLC. located at 3105 W. Post Road. Las Vegas. @dannyJohnson'sGarage 16:33 I'm having issues with leaking fuel when I get gas after doing this repair from the middle of the tank. I didn't want to over torque the bolts on the fuel pump but now its leaking after filling up 3 times from fuel pump gasket. Do you have any other recommendations? I put on the heavy-duty gasket and new bolts from O Rielly's.
is this an 03-04 cobra? My IRS stuff from my 04 makes it definitely look more difficult to get to/remove the fuel filter. About to check out videos on removal with the specific car as I'm at that step of this video with my car.
This is on a mach 1, but my brother just replaced his fuel filter on his terminator yesterday. It’s possible reaching up in there. It may help to get the rear of the car off the ground.
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage yeah I just got the fuel filter out. Actually found a thread on SVTPerformance earlier and it was a little boy peace of mind after reading that. Tomorrow I will resume on dropping the tank and trying not to crack The Grommet and also I have a little more than a half a tank of gas so as I drop the tank I will try to siphon some out
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage someone just replied on Facebook and said they doubt both pumps would fail at the same time but my question is if only one pump is bad how would the car run and will it even start? I checked voltage at the boost a pump and the fuse is also good. So at the booster pump it's a black plug I unplugged it and I proved and at one of the wires I got 12.70 volts. Coming off of the booster pump there are two red wires and one going to one has a fuse and the other red wire is going to a green wire off of a black little box thing on the body of the car on that side. I'm about to switch the car on and see if I'm supposed to get voltage at that red why but I don't get anything with it off. For the other red wire I got 12.7 with it off
@@sandmansimms5704 On one pump the car would still run, but wouldn’t be able to supply full fuel pressure at full throttle, so the car could run lean and melt a piston. The key is watching a wideband (air fuel ratio gauge) or fuel pressure gauge to ensure you have enough fuel
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage okay yeah I'm going to look up a video now on checking the power to the boost a pump. I checked it but I want to verify what I got I did get 12.7 at the big red wire coming from the front of the car I unplugged the black piece. The one the other red wire coming from the booster pump that's going to the green wire on this other black box in that same area I didn't get anything with it switched on or off
How was your fuel sending unit before? Did this one come with the whole new sending unit? If it’s new it could be tangled. Unfortunately, mine is needing to be replaced, even though my pump is good now.
Danny have you done this on an IRS cobra yet? Is it any different? The fuel filter looks like a pain to get to on my IRS cobra. Can I lower the tank slightly first to get to it better ? My cobra had a P0190 check engine code come up and it starts and stalls after a few seconds. Then doesn’t turn on . Cycle the key a few times and it does the same starts and stalls after a couple seconds. I think it’s the pump what do you think?
It definitely is harder to get to the fuel filter with the IRS, but it can be done with small hands and some screwdrivers. Otherwise the process is the same for dropping the tank and replacing the pumps is similar with the exception of there being two of them
Dang Danny, my mach 1 was only sitting for 2 weeks. My fuel pump does not make the priming noise. The fuse is ok. Do you think My fuel pump probably died ?
It’s possible. If you can get it to start with starter fluid (attempt at your own risk and don’t use a lot) it might get the pump running and unclogged If it got gummed up, but changing the pump and filter isn’t that bad. It may be time
I had to buy the entire pump assembly. Probably way more money than I should have spent on the pump. If it’s that important, look for the entire assembly.
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I couldnt find it online anywhere by itself but I was able to pause your video and read a part number off the side of the basket it lead me to this: www.ebay.com/p/Fuel-Pump-and-Sender-Assembly-Motorcraft-PFS-204-fits-2003-Ford-Focus-2-0L-L4/76489400?iid=312253595699&chn=ps
My 2001 mustang cranks and turns off but almost immediately turns off. Could this be a sign of a bad fuel pump or the pats system? I noticed that the "theft" light is lit, it's not blinking rapidly though.
Yes, it's possible. You might want to check the inertia switch in the trunk (shown in this video) to make sure it hasn't popped. Could also be a clogged fuel filter (but probably not likely).
Changed mine a year ago with a Delphi unit now getting same code, P0190 still runs but service engine soon light is on. Do you think the pump is bad already or something else?
Hey guys. I was just reading posts, and wanted to run a question by y’all - I have an ‘03 cobra. Had to change the fuel pumps in Jul 17, but can’t remember what the code was. A couple of weeks ago, I got the P0190, and changed the fuel rail sensor (your video on that made it super easy, Danny, thanks! 👍). Cleared the code, but was trying to remember if the code was a different one for pumps? I was thinking, for some reason, that it was 0190 when the pumps were bad. Looking at a list, it also could’ve been a 0174 (system lean) or 0191 (pressure sensor circuit range/performance). Thanks for the help, fellas .. if you happen to even look at these posts on older videos! 👍
Good video,...again ! Danny, problem: I did replace pump into my 2004/ 3.8 litre Mustang, I got "universal" pump, bigger 255 l/min?/, from ebay! I looked a little bit different that your Focus SVT, but very similar. The plug was different so I had to cut 2 wires, and I did connect + to +, and minus to minus! Then replace new Motograft filter, and put that even correct way in there. Problem is, I can hear pump starting/ working, but here is NO fuel pressure, nothing?? Tank is about same than yours, about quarter tank gasoline? Could it be, that I wirered that wrong...., anyway?? Car is jacked up from rear, still, could it be that the pump does not get fuel yet?? needs more gas?? I will check Saturday, if filter is getting fuel, before I drop tank again?? What is wrong??? Thanks, youtheman =)
Eero Laukkanen i'm not sure. If the pump is running it's possible it would be running in reverse. Be very careful not to have anything short out and spark in the fuel
Sure, but....I red here, it happened before that new pump is much more powerful, and got hose loosen up from the pump, so I have to put better clamps in there?? Will see tomorrow, when lower the tank....one more time!! Would be a good reason not to have a fuel pressure!!;o) Let you know later, what happens/ if got it fixed!!! Thanks =)
Eero Laukkanen yes, I have heard of the pumps blowing the hose off. Once it's down, I'd consider a regular pump if the new one seems like it will cause issues
Torrey Coffey I had a hard time finding it and bought the entire assembly that had a different part number. I'll have to see if I can find it. Just watch out cause a lot of these casings were used/re-used and so there is a thread going around how you can buy "the same pump" from autozone- but in reality it's just the case with cheap internals
Bro where I can find the tachometer of your car, I have a Mustang 04 and I want to change the tachometer for one like yours I expect your answer Thanks
Manuel Bracho you'd have to swap to Mach 1 gauges (you can buy the Mach 1 or Bullitt gauge cluster and swap it out). What model is your mustang? This is how to swap the cluster ruclips.net/video/nAiDPRYnjb0/видео.html
Iron Guy It’s typically from the fuel cap. If you have the capless design it will also come on if the flap doesn’t come up. Remove and replace the fuel cap, wiggle the tab that the fuel nozzle pushes on, and maybe even remove the battery cable for 10 minutes to reset the codes
Scrun Johnson no lines were caught just the whole unit was hitting the top of the tank and I was unable to remove it so I just changed the pump while it was inside the tank where there's a will .. but I haven't been able to get it started I did the filter the pump fpdm and checked fuses inertia switch was good , only thing I didn't check was the relay I believe it's in the computer which I was told is a dealer item now what's going on is car is turning and if I spray some ether it eats it up then dies out. Any advice?
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I know this is old now but I'm searching for this correct focus pump for my 03 mach.. I have found a post stating AIRTEX E2448 (which is a Walbro unit sold to Airtex) flows 284lph.. but it fits 00-02 SVT focus.. will that one work? or does it have to be 03-04 focus pump
Mitch Barber I’m sure the LPH is most important, and a good brand. I’ve even heard autozone sells the same pump with the same part number because a company remanufactures them. At this point it may be better just to get a good brand aftermarket pump that flows what you’re looking for
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage is that same pump you used in the video still working? Did you notice it ran any better with that pump? I'm just looking for a little upgrade over stock
Danny, I have code p0443. What part do i need to change? I have a 2001 Bullitt. Also can i change the tank grommet with out removing the tank? Thanks fort he videos brotha.
He p0443 is for the evap canister purge valve. I remember someone at a salvage yard when I was there pulling a new canister. It stems off one of the lines from the filler neck to capture fumes. Maybe you’ll get lucky and the grommet is making the evap valve throw a code. Fixing one might fix the other- but if not you’ll want to get a new evap canister or valve
“The P0443 code indicates that there is improper purge flow in the EVAP system caused by a physically malfunctioning purge valve or, a shorted or open purge valve circuit. The evaporative control (EVAP) system captures any raw fuel evaporating from the fuel storage system (e.g. the fuel tank, filler neck, and fuel cap).”
Good video! You seem to have a powerful Pony...., how many HP your Mach has?? And what is the speed for the pump, you put in: LPH??? Thanks, youtheman =)
Eero Laukkanen I believe it's a 284 LPH. That's enough to support about 450 hp with in Eaton supercharger, but I still would rather have twin pumps at that point. The MACH 1 is making a little over 300 to the wheels, but my Cobra does double that.
Eero Laukkanen I have a video on the channel of the Mach 1 before I installed the 4.10s. It was 13s so should be a bit quicker now. The cobra has yet to run down the track, but should be high 10s if I really launched it hard..don't plan on it
How come Cobra has so many HPs??? And, what rear end do you have in Cobra, ratio??? By the way, mine is 2004, 3.8 litre, it is "second hand" car for me, I am building up my Infiniti FX45, boring up to 5 litre, performance cams (still waiting??), headers, aso...., planning to have about 450-500 HP in that car, and yes, it is 4 wheel drive =),,,,! But anyway, while I am waiting parts for my Infiniti, just "spicing up" my Pony a little, having a hard time finding a stage 2 camshaft for it, even used one???, Comp Cams don't even make it??, do you know, where could I find one...., used OK?? Thanks=)
Eero Laukkanen the cobra makes 670 at the crank and 600 at the wheels from a Whipple supercharger and factory forged crank, rods, and pistons for strength. It has 3.55 gears. I'm not sure where you can find cams. My wife has a G35 and I've done some work on my friends GTR, but in not too savvy on which parts are best for Infiniti/Nissan.

@@genericdude6551 The welded ones are nice because they leave parts of them not painted for the welds to be able to attach, so if you plan on finding a good person to weld them on a drive on lift I would do that
Hey Danny just did fuel pump and my P0190 code on 2003 Mach 1 is still here. I can start car and it will run for 10 secs before starting to stutter and die. I just did fuel pump today and also the fuel rail pressure sensor. Do you have any ideas what else it could be?
What if I break the pin that’s by the filler neck can I use a zip tie or something
Yeah, it should be okay for that
Could you do this without taking the fuel filter off?
Yes
What did you do to clean inside the fuel pump asembly
Dump all the fuel out and wipe it down with a micro fiber towel. It seems to grab everything
If I heard you correctly, you're replacing the OEM fuel pump with a pump that is normally used in the Focus ST. Do you have a part number for that fuel pump? Would it work for the 02 GT?
SVT focus, not focus st. They are discontinued now.
I cut a square on the trunk liner to get access to the fuel pump, it took me 15 minutes to change it. just be careful not to cut the wires.
And use a sheet metal and silicone sealant to "repair"the cut.
I’ve heard of that, especially on camaros/Firebirds, but I’m not interested in doing that to my Mach 1, Cobra, or even my GT
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I feel you, but it doesnt affect the structure and is extremely practical, especially if you want to upgrade the pump later.
@@jhonkafirk please show me where to cut and how, my 01 gt pump just died and I need a quick access point. Thanks!

because you have to access the wiring and fuel connectors.
plus watch out with the sharp edges, too be honest, dropping the tank is way easier and less risky.
Changing my pump again after thirteen months, don't ever buy a Delphi, going back with motorcraft
Great video! I'm about to change the dead fuel pump in my GT (which has a full 15 gallons of gas) and I noticed you didn't mention replacing the gasket between the tank and the fuel pump access cover. I didn't even see one on you car. Is there one and did you replace it?
michaelsjolin that would be a good idea as well
Hey Danny, great vid like always. Thanks
Don Johnson You might want to check the fuel rail pressure sensor (frps) on the fuel rail
If your car is supercharged you shouldn't do the fuel pressure relief step correct?
You should do the relief regardless. The the only time it hurts the engine to lean out is under boost
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage oic. It doesn't hurt it at that low level. Thanks!
awesome video man.
will the SVT focus fuel pump work with a 1999 cobra just plug and play?
no tune required due to the return less fuel system?
All 99-04 are all the same
Thanks a lot
No problem. Thanks for watching!
Now, if you're changing the regulator and/or injectors.. then yes.
@@w00derice OK Thanks for the reply 😎👍💯
@@qward2174 hey, no problem at all. 👍
Are you referring to the shrader valve on the drivers side near the plenum? If so, I did...dry. I'm thinking maybe the fuel regulator. Do you know where that's located?
It’s a black box about 1”x1”x1” that plugs into the fuel rail.
What is your best time for 1/4 mile??=)
Ok. Drivers side? Rectangular shape? I'll check it. Thanks. Its probably the fuel pump. I'm hoping not
Great info! Say whats that "pod" on your steering column? A digital tach or what?
Same thing happened to me. Bruce, did you find a replacement part for that hose/line/connector?
@@paulesposito5649 I finally found fittings that worked from a company in Las Vegas Nv., not far from where I live. It's called ALL HOUSE SOUTH LLC. located at 3105 W. Post Road. Las Vegas. I used 6mm and it was fine
3:39 my clip broke when I put pressure on it, one side is still in but the top and other side broke off, and the fuel line wont come off
great video.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to drop the tank and makes sure the seal is clocked right. I’d also look to make sure it’s not the filler neck grommet
Gotta 2000 v6 auto. Just got fuel pump changed. Car ran fine for few days then died in park idle. Wouldn’t stay crunk. And gave me a code p0455
is this an 03-04 cobra?
The one the other red wire coming from the booster pump that's going to the green wire on this other black box in that same area I didn't get anything with it switched on or off
Hi Danny, how long did it take you in total to lower the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump?
Plan on 4 hours, depends on if you get held up and what tools you have
Thanks for the bideo
After installing rock auto fuel pump kit pumped 8.5 gallons and fuel gauge reading full, any ideas?
How was your fuel sending unit before? Did this one come with the whole new sending unit? If it’s new it could be tangled. Unfortunately, mine is needing to be replaced, even though my pump is good now.
Yes sir I bought the whole kit, Just hate to have to take it all apart again
Pulled the tank again and found the float sticking, fixed that and its working fine now
Ed ross Glad you got it fixed!
Otherwise the process is the same for dropping the tank and replacing the pumps is similar with the exception of there being two of them
What year is that From what SVT Ford Taurus is that gas pump so I can put it on my 01 Mustang GT
Rafael Sandoval svt Focus. 03/04 era
It may be time
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage yup it probably is time. 169k miles on the mach 1
Danny I am going crazy trying to find one of those ford focus pumps I cannot find one can you point me in the right direction?
*turns on then off sorry
Yes, it's possible. You might want to check the inertia switch in the trunk (shown in this video) to make sure it hasn't popped. Could also be a clogged fuel filter (but probably not likely).
Changed mine a year ago with a Delphi unit now getting same code, P0190 still runs but service engine soon light is on. Do you think the pump is bad already or something else?

@@dannyjohnsonsgarage changed it now I got p0193
Hey guys. I was just reading posts, and wanted to run a question by y’all -
I have an ‘03 cobra.
Once it's down, I'd consider a regular pump if the new one seems like it will cause issues
what did you find out?
I cannot find any of these now in 2019
what is the part number for the svt fuel pump?
Torrey Coffey I had a hard time finding it and bought the entire assembly that had a different part number. I'll have to see if I can find it. Just watch out cause a lot of these casings were used/re-used and so there is a thread going around how you can buy "the same pump" from autozone- but in reality it's just the case with cheap internals

Danny Johnson thanks for the answer.
Yeah, that’s the first thing I did but it wasn’t it.
On my 04 mustang trying to pull the pump out of the tank but it's not lined up with the opening any advice?
David Cruz try lifting up until it appears to catch and reach down in there to free up the lines that may be caught.
Any advice?
David Cruz so it's all plugged back in (the pump is plugged in) and it all fits inside the tank and screws down just fine?
Scrun Johnson yes all plugged back in electrical plugs back in screws in and everything ?
David Cruz that's so strange. Did you unravel the fuel lines? They may have gotten wrapped around the unbiblical cord style

Danny, I have code p0443. What part do i need to change? I have a 2001 Bullitt. Also can i change the tank grommet with out removing the tank? Thanks fort he videos brotha.
For the filler neck grommet you’ll need to drop the tank a little to get the filler neck out ruclips.net/video/JXt18xdGEEs/видео.html

OK, great, what kind of 1/4 miles times you have?? Both cars......;o)
