      I totally agree! I entered the world of mechanics as a young boy as early as I can remember watching my Dad. He built and drove his own racing cars. He ran dirt, asphalt flat and grade. Before NASCAR he built and ran drag cars right out of the Army. But decided on NASCAR for the longterm. I was always in the shop watching, learning and taking things apart and figuring out how to put them back together again. I'm 57 years young now and have never taken a break from the mechanical world. Over the years I've achieved a lot of goals and became a self taught professional mechanic with a good reputation successfully owning my own repair shop.
      I can definitely spot another professional when I see one and your very intelligent. Outstanding job on this video explaining procedures to follow in diagnostics troubleshooting techniques. Thank you for contributing this video.

    Absolutely superb guide to the system. So clearly and patiently explained that, even as an amateur DIY mechanic, I was able to get to grips with the information and get my head around how to approach a diagnosis of my crank-no-start problem. Useful even just to help me discuss a diagnosis with my mechanic. Real impressive. You are a natural teacher, respect.

    Wow just got to say really great video. you covered so much here and in such a good systematic way and easy to under stand. Only two things i could add here, for a non starting diesel engine are 1 cranking speed which you covered by saying battery but also starter motors can be the problem. but some diesel engines need a minimum crank speed to start. and 2 is EGR valves, if these are stuck in open position they can stop engine starting as the air/fuel mixture is compromised/disrupted.
    Thanks again for the great video

  • @ebutuoyssa

    Excellent presentation. Out of all the wealth of information you just shared -for me- the key to the diagnostic kingdom you mentioned is- "If your low pressure side isn't delivering sufficient pressure, the high pressure side can not make it's required pressure" (paraphrased). Jumping right into injector failure mode rather than considering first that the issue may be something as simple as an undetectable air leak, will destroy your credibility and break your business/wallet.. I replaced my OEM (piss poor and leak prone system) with a positive pressure (lift) in tank component and a primer blank out unit after 3 weeks of spanking around with every connection and potential air leak -with only 1 one possible leak point found. When you do the math-it's much cheaper to just junk the stock fuel delivery system, and upgrade to a quality USA made lift system. Final diagnostic note... This vehicle was found to have lost the CP3 lift pump capability putting it in a "no start condition". Problem was overridden via the lift pump installation. Thank you Sir.

      Just thought I'd update: Finally managed to get my van started!! This video was a huge help - turns out I just needed to bleed the air out from ALL of the injector inlet pipes - (I'd only checked fuel was "reaching" 1-2 of them). Pipe No.3 had a lot of air, finally pushed diesel through and it started! (Note: I think I'd drained the fuel lines via the return pipe, by running my diesel heater without the engine running)

    • @twothumbsfresh
      @twothumbsfresh 3 года назад +1

      @@Automotiverecoveryuk Depends on the vehicle mate, I think some Pipes are not meant to be loosened more than once, so check and be careful...but, I just loosened the pipe nut on each injector (not the one on the common rail, as air rises in the pipe, so best do the highest one), 1,2,3, then 4 etc. Loosen them, then crank/try to start the engine for a few seconds - air should come out, followed by a squirt of diesel, then quickly re-tighten the nut. Repeat for each injector pipe until all the air is released. Good luck!

    How much diesel is supposed to flow to return line after being disconnected from injectors ? Basically when doing leak of test, i done a leak of test on the injectors , all came back same value in 5 mins , but the return line i had to put it into a bottle as in 5 minutes it filled a 1 litre bottle , is that normal ? At the same time my rail pressure at idle is 30-40 bars under what is actually comanded , even when constant driving seems to struggle to maintain a consistent rail pressure , always fluctuating -40-50 bars , back to normal and then -40-50 again.

    Anyone give me some advice please before i pull the trigger on a new high pressure fuel pump,my main question is can a high pressure pump just struggle higher up the rev range only?
    I have a 2008 mercedes c-class 3.0 cdi om642 diesel,car runs flawlessly except for when you accelerate hard from say 60mph you get an instant eml light and reduced power,code is either on one tool p0089 or 11b800 'The control deviation during rail pressure regulation via the quantity control valve is too high.'
    I've replaced fuel filter,fuel rail pressure sensor,fuel quantity control valve on high press Pump but no improvement.
    I took out the lift fuel pump in the fuel tank and the filter gauze on it's base was blocked solid!!Cleaned that but no improvement which surprised me.
    Can it be the high pressure pump?Not much else left! ;-)
    Oh,the freeze frame data from the fault the fuel rail pressure was 1380 bar,specified was 1560 bar?Is that enough of a problem?

    I find the closing comments regarding the locking of garage doors somewhat comical. In South Africa, if it is not bolted down or locked behind steel, it WILL be gone the next day. We have electric fencing on the 6-ft fencing, alarm beams around the houses, motion sensor lighting etc etc. Seems like we are actually ahead of the curve that open borders brings. FYI, the power in my area is off at least once a month as criminals cut the high-voltage transmission lines and drag them off to be sold as scrap metal. And I live in a fairly normal neighborhood. Good luck in the US of A.
