    Well coconut milk does have fat but you can't just throw around a vague word like fat. Humans need fat in their diet. The question is whether they're good or bad fats

      Coconut fat isn't necessary at all. We need polyunsaturated fats. I think coconut fat is monounsaturated, which can be made by the body.

      In my childhood, my mother only drank soy milk during pregnancy, (since she didn't know if I was lactose intolerant or not) so I didn't see how people hated soy milk so much. I always like coconut and cows milk better, but I thought that almond milk was disgusting

    • @VixenAurora
      @VixenAurora 8 лет назад +7

      FrostyWolfZ There are a lot of cheeses made from coconut oil, almonds, macadamia nuts, chickpeas or aquafaba, soy, and other plant foods. There are a lot of options for vegan cheese that does not require cashews.
      Check out the cookbook "The Non-Dairy Formulary" by Skye Michael Conroy. It's loaded with different dairy alternative recipes that use all sorts of plant ingredients.
      If you don't want to buy a cookbook (or if your library doesn't have it) there's plenty of recipes available online ^.^

    • @VixenAurora
      @VixenAurora 8 лет назад +3

      FrostyWolfZ The vegan cheese I'm currently using is Earth Island cheese slices and Daiya shreds. Earth Island cheese slices are coconut & potato starch based and Daiya is coconut, canola, and pea protein based.

      VeganButterfly Yes, I'm aware there are different non-cashew cheeses. I also have two vegan cookbooks, and I read recipes online too. I will look into those options you mentioned. I think I would be fine without any substitute anyway.

      Henry Nguyen sorry but it’s true. Cows are like ticks, except for planet earth. They do NOTHING good for the environment. They eat, poop, and die, and boy do they eat a LOT. Not only that, but they burp methane. One cow can’t do harm to our ozone, but many, MANY Cows burping methane can cause some serious damage to our ozone. The meat industry has to chop down forest to make room for cow plants, and shipping the meats and milk just cause more pollution. The Human race would be better without cows. Than again, dairy milk is delicious, and makes my cereal even taster.

    Coconut milk is the healthiest because coconut is a superfood, naturally packed with vitamins, minerals and healthy fat. It is one of nature's edible wonders and tastes great in cereal, gravy, soups, curries etc. You can flavor it to your liking, and it thickens well in cooking. All non dairy milks have their wonderful benefits. Try ALL of them. Switch it up and see what you prefer.

      ***** When a calf is big enough, it needs less milk and the cow automatically starts producing less. Therefore, if we just let nature happen, it doesn't hurt her :)
      Dairy is also really bad for us. I recommend watching Forks over Knives, or reading 'Proteinaholic' by Dr. Garth Davis. Here's also a good article:
      www.drmcdougall.com/misc/2007nl/mar/dairy.htm

    • @charmedmimi
      @charmedmimi 8 лет назад +1

      ***** But if it were a dog's or a cat's milk would you eat it too?
      Consuming milk and cheese causes direct suffering. In 99% of all cases, the calf gets taken away from the mother, just to made into calf meat or become a milk cow itself. The mother cow then suffers immensly from psychotic breakdowns. She is then raped by farm workers, gets pregnant again and the calf gets taken away from her, too. Circle of constant torture. All for things milk and cheese, which we do not need to be healthy, we just consume it cause it tastes good. Is it really worth it?! Btw, cheese makes you so addicted because it contains dopamin - made by nature so the calf drinks a lot of milk and becomes a huge cow itself. Of course, all those growth hormones are not good for humans.'
      And if you don't care about the animals, maybe you care about your health and preventing almost all chronic diseases. Again, please watch 'Forks over Knives' and look at the sources I listed above.

    She forgot about rice, oat, hemp, and cashew milk. Hemp milk also has a lot of protein if you're looking for a good alternative to soy. Also coconut milk only has 5g of fat per 8 oz serving not 30g. And unsweetened almond or cashew milk only has about 25-30 calories per cup and is great for dieting or just cooking with because you won't taste the difference. I don't recommend drinking it plain though.

    The dairy industry is not only relentlessly cruel, it's completely unnatural. The idea of drinking a cow's milk, or for that matter, the milk of any other non-human mammal, honestly seems a little disgusting to me. I usually only drink almond milk, well, that's if I can't find vanilla flavoured soy milk, which is just awesome.

    • @alexisthebestever7426
      @alexisthebestever7426 9 лет назад +1

      Yes, it is unnatural and pretty disgusting. However I must admit to drinking dairy milk. I have thought about the unnecessary cruelty to the animal and it pains me deeply (that is why I try to avoid meat as much as possible), however I haven't switched (to non-dairy milk) yet.
      EDIT: I'll give soy, almond and coconut milk a try. I remember my parents trying to put me on soy milk as a child (my sister being lactose intolerant), I don't think I liked it. But that was a while ago so I might like it now. :)

    I like regular milk for cooking, but to drink its soy milk all the way. I think the problem most people have with the taste is that they are expecting the flavor of milk. If they think about it as a different thing as opposed to a substitute I think some people could learn to appreciate the refreshing awesomeness that is soy milk.

    I personally believe Drinking Cow milk isn't wrong at all. It's the way it is brought to our tables that is totally wrong. If I were to wake up everyday in a farm with cows and I would get a cup of milk from a cow everyday, I would totally do it, it won't hurt the cow, it won't get her babies hungry and it's not processed, so it won't hurt me in any way. That's why I stopped drinking milk, because Mass produced milk is none of the above, it hurts cows because they are forced to produce more than their normal capacity, not only their children are forbidden from their mom's milk, but they are also forbidden from seeing or being with their mom, plus the milk is all processed and God knows what crap is added to it.
    So now I only drink soy milk, and if you think it is more expensive, yes it is, way more expensive, but only if you decide to drink 1 liter a day or more often. I drink a cup a day, so I'm fine.
    But if one day I woke up in a farm with cows, you know what I would start my day with.. :)

    Do you know where your milk comes from? In order to get milk, cows must be lactating. In order to be lactating they have to be pregnant. So these cows are constantly kept pregnant (having a baby after another) so that they can milk them, and since the babies are not needed they take them away from their mothers and take them to slaughterhouses so that they get killed, and go into your plate. The cows, the moms, are kept under terribly bad conditions and almost always develop illneses + they insert them hormones all the tyme (estrogen, the female hormone) to keep lactating. Not to mention that cow milk contains 298 million pus cells. And all those illneses female hormones and pus goes into your glass of milk. Also, dairy products lead to prostate cancer and heart diseases. And SO many environmental issues I won't get into right now. Rethink before you pick your milk.

Yes indeed, All mamals are born with a synthetic chemical that binds to opiate receptors in our body so that the baby will stay lached or will keep drinking/coming back for more. He explained that in nature the baby can run off at any time but it's that chemical in the mother's milk that makes the smaller mammal come back for more. It's a survival chemical in nature. But we as humans should not drink milk from cows. it has 750 000 puss cells per cup 250ML of milk, That's the same shit that comes out of a pimple or infection.

    • @princeofexcess
      @princeofexcess 9 лет назад +1

      Hannah G. Yes. But they aare meant to be consumed. Baby cows are not born to be consumed but we eat baby cows.
      Other animals arent born to be eaten yet we eat them. (not that i think there is anything wrong with that but people think nothing of it, yet milk was meant to be consumed and people think its strange for some bizzare reason)
      And people find drinking milk strange. Its not logical. Who cares that its meant to be consumed by another species its still was made with the purpouse to be consumed.
      You might as well find eating fruit strange. Fruit evolved to be eaten by specific species. Not humans.
      (mostly birds fruits like cherries figs grapes etc)
      Yet we eat fruits.
      Avocados evolved to be eaten by giant sloths that are now extinct. Does that mean we shouldnt eat avocados.
      This kind of reasoning does not make sense.

      WaterspoutsOfTheDeep No animals were created for humans to eat nor farm.
      We have bread those animals to farm and eat.
      Cows from from Aurochs.
      Even our pets are bread. Dogs come from wolfs and cats from wild cats like Lynx.

    How about the hormones in soy milk? Maybe we should also consider the source of soymilk and the process.

    After going through Michael Pollan's book I am starting to see his point about how we're making food more complicated now than ever before.

    I do drink store bought almond milk. I have been for a couple years. But I do get concerned if the thickening agents over time might be doing something bad for my body. They all contain either carrageenan or locust bean gum dependending on the brand. I eliminated the ones with carrageenan, as I read that it is definitely not good. But there is not much research done on locust bean gum. Its name certainly doesn't sound appealing.

    Anyone know the pros and cons of Hemp or Rice milk?

  • @Dr_Xyzt

    Coconut milk and multi-grain cheerios is a good combination. Iced soy chai latte is good. Soy frappuccino. Cow's milk still dominates the latte'. Chocolate soy milk is delicious. Coffee and unsweetened almond milk is a cold weather drink. Cashew milk is like a bitter version of coconut milk. I haven't tried rice or hemp milk yet.

    With my breakfast, I tend to have 30g of whey protein. But for snacks, I find that rice cakes combined with an unsweetened, vanilla blend of almond-coconut milk is great. BTW, if you combine nut milk with a grain, doesn't that make good protein? Kinda like eating rice and beans?

      maybe eating actual almond nuts would, but since in the milk there are barely any of them in there my guess would be coconut, cause it had the most nutrients listed...

    Almond Milk if you buy a very good brand that contains only water and almonds is probably the "cleanest" of the bunch, meaning no extra additives and such but I can never get used to the watery taste of it.
