    I think precoiling works because, as you say, there's still a bit of dynamic movement at the peak of the backswing. Not to be confused with early rotation, which often peaks early, then is either held in place until the brace leg plants, or starts moving forward before then. I have the latter problem.

    thanks for all these tests and concepts. I always thought Jake looked slightly different in his approach, hope to see an update on this soon from you.

    I was told if you pre-coil too much you can go blind. Oh never mind that was something else. Great video as usual, really interesting content.. Keep up the great work. My TechDisc arrives in a couple of weeks looking forward to doing a lot of tests.

      Haha, thanks. Good luck, the hardest thing to do with the tech disc is just practice throwing without trying everything lol.

    Wysocki has a bit of this as well. Funny I found this video I was just noticing some of this on the last tournament I watched.

    I think pre-coiling is likely to be more damaging than not for the average person. One of the hardest things to do is managing your center of mass throughout the footwork, particularly during the X-step. A huge amount of people struggling to throw linear are hitting a wall because their CoM is tilting backwards during that crucial part of the footwork. You know as well as anyone how damaging that is to the overall mechanics. Even people playing in MPO have this issue.
    I made a video recently discussing this exact thing, along with some simple suggestions to help maintain posture and balance while continuously moving forward.
    ruclips.net/video/WSV-AdEYZZI/видео.html
    It may be possible to both pre-coil the shoulders while still using the arms to move the CoM forward, but it's likely a ton harder. What Jake does is one of those high end pro efficiencies that matches his weight distribution and statue.
    Great video and channel, thank you for the work you do!

      Yeah, a lot of people will probably end up running up backwards if they try to pre-coil. I wouldn't recommend it to unless someone already has pretty good control of their form and tries it just to experiment.

    I’ve been precoiling for awhile. It works just fine and I feel it’s a consistent way to approach a power throw, it greases the groove and makes it really easy to reach a full coil, but to me it’s missing some of the elastic component you see in the longest power players form. It’s a habit I’m struggling to break out of.

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад +1

      I didn't notice any missing of elasticity personally, but that's because as I described, I think nearly all of that elasticity is from a very small amount of dynamic movement in the final moments just before the pull through which can easily be present if you have any amount of leftover coiling range of motion at that final moment.
      I don't know about Jake's power without it, but over 600 FT with it is pretty dang elite.

    • @lankstadiscs
      @lankstadiscs 3 месяца назад +1

      @@disc-golf-neil very interesting thoughts. I think I may overcoil and not leave enough room to really make the movement as dynamic as I probably could. It’s also possible my explanation is just another excuse to justify plateauing around a 950ish rating unable to push my distance much further for about a year now even though a lot of guys on tour pre coil and bomb the hell out of the disc.

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад +1

      @@lankstadiscs I think about it like stretching a rubber band out gradually, and then suddenly giving it a small amount of extra stretch, explosively at the end before letting it go for some extra explosiveness, this would be the normal style of coiling where the range of motion happened over a longer period of time.
      Pre-coiling to me in this analogy would be stretching the rubber band 90% of the way initially, but you still have that last 10% stretch that happens explosively before you let it go to initiate that explosiveness.
      But I don’t think you have to think about that last 10% in either case because as soon as you try to start pulling through there is a natural amount of delay in reaction time that causes the final stretch

    do you lower your throwing shoulder when coiling I saw vidoes on it that should lower your throwing shoulder or tilt it downwards during the coil

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад +1

      It sounds like you’re describing sidebending which indirectly lowers the shoulder but not from any shoulder movement at all.
      I think I naturally do that w bit but want to do more of it because I think it can help add power.
      A back view of Eagle throwing a power hyzer flip is a good example, he side bends a lot more noticeably than many people.

  • @samwich248

    I have a precoil but it's a bad one, my X step leaves my foot pointed backwards and it's hard to break the habit

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, that's common, it's super easy to precoil while X stepping because it makes it easier to X step in a way.
      Forcing yourself to practice an exaggerated short X step should help. I had a little bit too-backwards pointing X step but not a lot, it wasn't because I was coiling for me but it was from taking too big of an X step.
      It was a surprisingly tough habit to break, I kept thinking and feeling I was doing a short X step but wasn't. Another thing to try is a "crow hop", like McBeth. Both feet come off the ground during a short X step hop. But I only like doing that on faster run ups, personally.

    • @samwich248
      @samwich248 3 месяца назад +1

      @@disc-golf-neil the thing is, I do crow hop, which is where I get a lot of my power from (I know it’s “internet distance” but I do throw in the upper 400s and have hit 500 a few times) but I feel like I could get a lot better separation between my lower half and upper half if I fixed my x step direction.
      I used to be a pitcher and I am studying kinesiology, so I know the key to quick rotation and fast rotational motion is separation of hips and shoulders, which is not spectacular for me right now. Workshopping a lot of that so this is all really good content for me personally. Thanks!

    Pretty sure Calvin pre-coils

    • @disc-golf-neil
      @disc-golf-neil  3 месяца назад

      Yeah looks like there’s a little bit but not as dramatic. I’m looking at how much of his chest I can see from the back view before he starts going into the brace.
      Seems like is more common than I realized because it doesn’t stand out a lot like Jake’s since he does so much of it, it’s immediately noticeable.
