Here's the progress I made on my co-op, round-based zombie game since the last video.
The game is a first person shooter set in World War 1, inspired by games like the Call of Duty franchise and Battlefield 1.
I added recoil and camera shake, using the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as inspiration for how it should look. I also expanded the map so now you can open the barrier and progress to the next area.

I've been thinking about using AI for things like concept art (e.g. stable diffusion to generate images), or ChatGPT to help me solve hard programming problems (maybe it can help with physics related things?). . You should definitely add an effect where if you shoot or stab a zombie at point blank, your screen gets some blood around the edges.
Edit: because blood from zombies and damage to player would be difficult to tell apart… zombie blood could be dark red with a greenish tint, player blood could be bright pure red, and a pain effect by blurring the edges of the screen when player health is low. (With a heartbeat sound ofc)
and also blood particle that comes from zombies while you shoot them be pretty good
maybe black blood for zombies and red blood for damage?
Just blood on the hand, or instead of the side have it drip from the top / be around the crosshair / around the screenspace where the knife is / where the screenspace where the impact came from (which will probably be the crosshair but you could delay it for a second to simulate the traveling of the blood)

This looks awesome so far!! Keep up the great work!! One idea I had was that when you remove the barriers to unlock sections, you could make it so that an artillery shell lands on the barrier and wipes out the debris, leaving just a shell crater and opening up the next area. Would look cool and adds to the WWI atmosphere you have going.

I think instead of removing barriers with points, you should make it so you can spend points to purchase dynamite or other explosives and blow up the barriers with some cool explosion effects. Some barriers could take more explosives to get through

I love how you added 2 german helmets and one variations for the Stahl helm.
If you want to improve performance a bit more you could try occlusion culling, and maybe make some low LOD(Level of detail) for some objects in the map or even some low LOD models for the zombies considering theres a lot of them (by the way theres two types of way to work with occlusion culling one is static batching and the other is dynamic batching).
Good callouts! I'm using occlusion culling and LODs currently, but also will be upgrading to unity 6 soon which should let me make use of new features like GPU resident drawer which hopefully will give performance improvements for "free" 🤞

May I recommend adding a catacomb area maybe under the church as a new area or branching path, could be cool.

I love how this game is looking. A idea I thought of was that, if you add hellhounds into the game you could have it so the map fills with mustard gas until the wave is over. And maybe the gas would cause disorienting vision, and you could buy a gas mask on a wall to reduce or completely remove the affect

Grenades would be useful and fun to use but they would be pretty overpowered.
Also flamethrowers were used during world war 1 too

if the game is to be fun, I think you should be able to get points, get to win a round, which you can then use points to buy better weapons, and you for points to complete the round. and maybe if there were different zombies that can shoot or run fast. but the game looks good👍🏻😃

Awesome editing, very awesome game, and very awesome console. More games need consoles that players can use, it leads to endless fun! Playing CS:GO with friends and just trying out different commands is so fun.

Hey, have you heard of the game Guts & Blackpowder? Although it's on roblox it is pretty good since its zombies in Napoleonic wars. Glad to see that there are people making zombie games in eras aside from modern day and ww2. Once you reach the stage where your game is near finish, you should make some mission maps definitely, so that it won't be repetitive like COD Zombies. Can't wait to see this game finished. Put on my wishlist

I actually like the beans I'm not sure why but I guess they just have a funny looking style.
I know it doesn't fit but as you said in the video a easter egg for them would be nice.
Looks great so far! Any idea on unique features that will be in your game? I found it important to make sure that mechanics/gameplay aren't directly borrowed from COD cause it [might] lead to issues later down the line.
A few ideas for you:
Zombies that spawn from the south-west are mostly french-uniformed, whilst the zombies from the north east are german. This can make it seem like the map you're on is in the middle of no man's land. Add some lore markers/papers on the floor covered in mud that have some hints as to where you are, say an underground german/french laboratory that was hidden under the church/sealed off that was thought to contain the secrets of immortality, that the french/germans were trying to access because they thought it'd been found, and that's how the outbreak started. Although that would be something you'd do later down the line, never hurts to keep it in the back of your head. The title could be something like "No man's land: Zombies" or you could keep it as a map name. "Hordes of the Undead: WW1", i don't know. I'll edit this with some less art/lore and more technical ideas later.
Good job, the game looks great and the gameplay is smooth.
Nevertheless, you should take a look at lightning, that's the main fps killer.. Don't know your settings but by default it comes with realtime lightning, switch to baked and work from there on the map. It will improve your fps by a lot (even if you dont have realtime lightning, there are other settings that you should look into).
Seems like a nice concept, you should add an option to turn off blood.
you have to make a diference between this and cod world at war zombies,cuz atm it seems really similar,so you should add gameplay mechnics like special zombies,maybe a way to dig your own way in the trench?the ability to craft some fesensive items like barbwire etc

You should add a melee so if you run out of ammo and can’t get an ammo upgrade thing you can still kill the zombies
you should add different kinds of zombies to make the game morw fun and you should add some boss too to be more epic.

Great looking game but I recommend you try a room-based occlusion culling method like portals
Add a Bean gun Easter Egg where whenever you kill an enemy they turn into a bean.

You should add gun upgrades, not pack a punch- but like something where say, you kill 100 beans and your gun makes beans you kill explode and damage a small radius of other beans. I’m not sure how hard that is to program but you can probably reprogram a dead bean as a grande… but idk
Edit- only make that a feature for single shot guns like bolt action rifles or revolvers
add sprint animation, so that he points the gun down while running=)
