In this devlog I overhaul the first-person viewmodel animation system. I did this so that I could add a bolt-action rifle, the Tankgewehr. The new system also allows for reload animations where both hands let go of the weapon model at various times. The animation system is now mostly driven by code, using procedural animation - now the only full animations I have to make are the reloads, and everything else like the equip, unequip, weapon sway, weapon firing, can all be done procedurally. In the second half of the video, I do some level design, and replace the church area greybox with proper assets. It's not entirely finished, but for now it looks pretty good I reckon.
I am making this game using Unity & HDRP. The game is set in World War I, and the gameplay is inspired by horde games like Call of Duty Zombies - i.e. a round-based co-op zombie shooter. The visuals and atmosphere are inspired by games like Battlefield I.

why is the reload animation for the rifle questionably higher quality than the other weapons. god dayum that reload is fire

@@SerbianMoss this is why they added a pistol grip. I saw one few years ago. The stock is huge ( there is one tankGewehr in the Berlin muséum), report from the développement team said even in the prone position, with a traditional grip, the shooter break his shoulder

As a fellow (rookie) developer, it is very reassuring to know that other's go through the same troubles and nuiances that I do (and that the issues that I'm facing are natural to come, and it's not me messing up). Keep working on your game, and I'm rooting for you. I am also currently dealing with the creating animations phase. I know what I want to see in my game but the execution method is trial and error. Your game looks awesome, keep it up.
Don't forget to add the weapon sway when jumping/landing. Really adds to the movement. Keep up the grind!
If a gun is too strong, make the ammunition more uncommon. OR Make it so you can’t shoot without using the bipod.
Church looks production ready to me outside of adding some set dressing like you mentioned! Looking forward to play testing!

Suggestion: To me, it feels strange going into a VR game that has big guns with small or skinny hands. It’s just super jarring seeing the scale, and though it’s not as prominent in this project, I would suggest maybe some gloves for the character? Maybe a new hand model that’s about 10% to 15% bigger? I feel like it would feel a lot better in that case, but that’s just me

If you're considering a second attempt on the church, consider making it look like a field hospital, considering many churches were used as makeshift field hospitals, can't wait for more updates!

In some games when you move the camera the gun rotates and moves the opposite direction, maybe you could also had a bit of translation to make it look better

I'm not sure how I hadn't seen this but thanks to RUclips's recommended I finally found it and now it's added to my wishlist and my gosh I am ready for this game now. I would love to have some new zombies game that makes me feel like some WaW Zombies again in some way that feels different. Can't wait! You have my intruige that's for sure

Bro this is damn cool
You probably won't see this, but it'd be awesome if we could choose between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers for our character. That way it could be a sort of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation. Even if you don't, I'm stoked for this game.

Just wishlisted the game! I'm also working on a co-op game so had to built a steam page aswell. I would suggest you to rearranging your steam page tags. Current similar games showed in your page are CS and Rainbow which are not too similar to your game. Instead you can put the Online Coop in the first 4 maybe so rather than counter strike, left 4 dead 2 can show up. I'm sure it will help the page getting more attention.

This popped up in my recommendations. The game looks like it has a ton of potential. A ww1 zombie game looks like a nightmare to play. Especially if you add bolt action firearms. I'm looking forward to more updates.

It looks like the pistol is to light so it looks a little weird, So you should make the pistols two handed, or give the pistols more recoil backwards towards the character not upwards . Other wise I love how much work and love ❤ you put in to the game. I can’t wait to see what happens with it and eventually play it.

I'm so glad people are still making Zombie games. Killing the undead never gets old for me and changing the scenery and time period always spices things up. If only we could get a realistic Napoleonic themed zombie game.

Special zombies like flammenwerfers or sturmmentruppen after a certain amount of waves could be neat, I think
Great job. You could leverage the IK retargeting though, instead of attaching hands to the gun. The idea is to copy the anim pose from hands to their IK targets, apply procedural stuff, apply IK. This will preserve the original pose, and you won't have to rely on the gun-hand bones. Might be useful for general motions, like a tactical sprint with a pistol. Anyways, you got a wishlist)

You should add the Mosin Obrez bolt action pistol to the game, you could reuse animations from the Tankgewehr M1918, you could also add a P08 Carbine so their would be that weird pistol-caliber Carbine Rifle that has the magazine from the MP-18.

I think that the entire game looks great. I would only really add one thing at the time of making this comment: Inspects. You might not have time for it, but it would be FIRE. Also it would be a better decision to add it now, when there's only 3 weapons, if you're planning to have like 15 weapons.
