I’m leaving this comment right as an important message to today’s generations: NEVER LET THIS SONG DIE! This is one of the greatest songs ever written and the guitar solo is unlike any other you’ll ever find. Music from the 70’s is in a league of its own and it saddens me today’s generations will never know that feeling. Fly high Lynyrd Skynyrd! ❤
The 70s was the best era for rock music. And this was one of the masterpieces.... You're right - today's music listeners have no idea what they missed. ❤🎉
I loved Alabama but didn't really get into Lynyrd Skynrd until I found my new US LOVE a die-hard, free birder 9 years ago online. At 75 yrs, I am a convert. Everything about this band has been on par with my no.1 American rock band since 1969, John Fogarty, and CCR.
Nearly 78 now but listen to Freebird everyday! I discovered them late in life and cannot get enough! Fly high with the eagles free birds! Much love to Lynard Skynard and all the fans!!
Few things put a wider grin on my face than to see "old geezers" getting into the music and letting the guitar riffs move them... Love, love, love this!

I first discovered/heard Freebird when I went over to the U S on a training course for United States Surgical Corporation. It was 1978 the year my first son was born. Although the song had been released a couple of years earlier it was getting a lot of plays on American radio. It became my favourite song and still remains to this day one of the most played tracks. My second son was born 4 years later in 1982. Tragically he died on 13th July 2018 so now every time I play Freebird I imagine Andrew flying free as a bird, free from the depression and anxiety that caused him to take his own life.

And John G I'm very sorry 🙏 for your loss and hope it somehow helps to know that there are a lot of us who immediately lost our youth and naietivity all those years ago and I for one still have so many unanswered questions about just what did I do wrong by doing what I was raised and taught was my duty when I became an 18year old adult and and answered Uncle Sam's call for help and I might never understand why I have not been shown the same respect and recognition that the generations of veterans before and after mine have received for their service to this country the same way I served my country and yeah I may stay feeling disrespected and unrecognized for my service and I will live on feeling that only other veterans including those generations before and after mine will show my generation of veterans the respect and recognition that most of the people in this country do not show
What makes this song so special is the heartfelt way it was created. It is an honest account of what was in the hearts and minds of these mavericks of music at a very tender young age.
What I love about this is you got chicks and dudes in their 20s in the audience, next to people who could be their grandparents, all rocking out together. Lynyrd Skynyrd truly is one of those bands that are simply friggin' timeless, crossing the gap of generations, and still sounding like they did back in '77. Absolute legends!!🤟🤟🤟
The instrumentals are good, but compared to the original Lynyrd Skynrd with Ronnie Vant Zant, well, it just doesn't quite measure up, but to be fair, I'll give these guys credit for continuing their legacy and for their performance, which was good, but watch their original performance here on you tube, when they performed Freebird on 7/2/77 @ the Oakland coliseum. If only we had music like this today. It seems that the true meaning of music has died with the best musicians that ever lived. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Anyone who has ever seen this band live new the were getting their money’s worth. So much trouble and heartbreak yet so much fantastic music. Rest in peace FREE BIRDS.
After all these years, cameraman STILL ignore the bass player on this song. Skynyrd’s original bassist, Leon Wilkinson absolutely drove this song. And his building riffs brought the electric solos to an awesome climax. Our band would always end shows with Free Bird. As the bassist, our lead singer & lead guitar player once told me that the BASS is really what makes this song great.
Unfortunately, the Skynyrd bassist did not want to be filmed. Second, it is not up to the cameramen to set up shots. That is the director's job in the control room. When one camera is hot, he would be setting up shots he wanted then directed the engineer to switch to what ever cam he called out.
Had the pleasure of seeing their uk farewell tour a few years ago, Status quo were the supporting act which was the only reason I went, I only new them as the band who sang sweet home Alabama at the time, but it was one of the best concerts I’ve been too and I soon became a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan.

FREE BIRD.🦅 ☮️
You know it’s hard on them singing his songs but I believe he’s smiling in heaven on his brothers and Friends
Ronnie Van Zanth or Alen Collins?
Took me 3 months of constant practice to master this solo note for note. bleeding fingers and callouses was all worth it when me and my band played this cover for a crowd of 15000 in Raleigh, NC for Rock Revolution.

Shame this isn’t note for note. They messed it up big time. Tempo wrong too. 1976 performance is perfection
Goodbye gary you outlasted them all fly high brother
My family and I always head to Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan. And we always play this song whenever we arrive there. Vibe to it every time

I am loving this band for over 40 years and they are a true, brilliant unique talent, original band or latest band. Seen them here in glasgow scotland 4 times. amazing band.
best concert ever, was mid 70s in Glasgow...more than 40 years....
I am 41 years old and deeply into rock music for last 30 years. Believe it or not. I DID NOT KNOW THIS SONG until it popped up in my tidal playlist last week. I am now hooked.
One of the best solos of all time man! My first introduction to the band years back while I’m not their biggest fan anymore I can certainly always come back to this song.
Soooooo jealous that you are only finding this masterpiece now. Welcome 🙏
You gotta be shitting me ? 41 ? Never heard this ? You raised under a rock or dem?
@@jakestokes398 I mean, I didn’t want to have to be the one to say it haha
I hate to say it, but if you haven’t heard this song once in 30 years, your not deeply into rock music, or any music for that matter. It’s one of the absolute most well known songs to ever bless peoples ears.
At the 08:30 mark Billy’s waving..shut’er down, my piano is melting down! 😆 what a great rendition! Fantastic!👍🏼
no one saw him..lol
Ageless. Timeless. What a privilege to have seen Lynyrd Skynyrd. Feel sad because the world will never make another band like them. One of a kind ❤
*I am 62. This song still brings tears to me.*

Hi from Ukraine, this one hits so crazyyy
I was stationed in the Navy in Italy in 1975. My buddy Joe had a quadraphonic stereo system. The first time I heard this song was on that system. It rocked then, it rocks today.
Thank you for your service!🤘🇱🇷❤️

Long Live Gary,Ronnie and Billy gonna miss you Guys!!!❤❤❤
The talent of the band will never die.
This is not the original band.
@@craigmontgomery5387 I know that, but i mean the spirit of the band will never die
I am a Korean, and this song reminds me of my grandfather who enjoyed American western movies. The greatest guitar solo ever
The only song I know where the guitar solo is at such a high level there’s no way it’s got another gear. Then pow!! Another level of guitar solo! Absolutely epic song.
It's actually one of the easier solos to play.
Nine9s that’s cool

A good friend told me wanted this played when he died. Sadly, he died way to young and this was played, RIP B Crosby
Brian McCarthy sorry for your loss. I have people tell me the same. Some people just know deep down they aren’t meant to be here long.
RIP 🙏
My dad wants this played when he passes on too. May your friend rest easy. God Bless.
So sorry, it is my wish too!
This has been my wish for years as well. 🕊
TO BE FREE IS A BLESSING!
Ppl here in this country (USA) do not know what it’s like to not be but I’ve traveled and I tell you more than anything you are so right.
Right.

Quel solo et duo de guitares magnifique une tuerie l’apothéose 🤠💪💪👏👏👏💪💪🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💋💋💋💋💋
RIP Gary Rossington. Thanks for all the great music. Fly high now with all the other Free Birds.
Seeing Billy Play made remember how much this band means to me. I remember my babysitter playing me Freebird back in 1978 and telling me this was the greatest band she had ever heard. 40 odd years later and i still think she was right.
Simply a masterpiece ! Love this band and this music : the real Southern rock ! From Italy
This song became a hit the month I was born, I’ve spent my entire life listening to it and it NEVER gets old.
I love you man.
This song will forever be an anthem. I'm 27 years old and i'll listen to this song at 92. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.
If only we had music like this today. It seems that the true meaning of music has died with the best musicians that ever lived. Long live Lynyrd Skynyrd.

A Southern Legend , grew up on their tunes
Anyone who has ever seen this band live new the were getting their money’s worth. So much trouble and heartbreak yet so much fantastic music. Rest in peace FREE BIRDS.
Watched this for 1st time with ear buds in. Just chills, amazing guitar work.
All songs of Lynyrd Skynyrd are amazing only a legendary group
Toomyfamilytoomydaughterandsonletthemknow
Looking forward to seeing them in March 2024
There isnt anyone I would rather hear singing this but Johnny the best brother ever
I know right darling
I would have liked to hear it from Ronnie, but sadly I am too young :/
It was fantastic until you tube Australia decided to put 2 ads on right at the pivotal ending of this song
Got to love commercialism
@@TR41N123 i know right
@Amy Royall Johnny has done a good job keeping his brother’s memory alive as has Ricky Medlocke with Allen’s.
One of the best songs ever written
Real music, real talent, real rock!
The greatest guitar solo in the history of music.
This must be one of the best songs ever .love it always did
I've been loving them since the 70's. Still amazing!
As a bassist I thank you. We take love wherever we can get it!
The guitar player gets the spotlight but people are moving their butts to the base
They are simply one of the best bands of all time that Old School awesome Musicians have Blessed us all with. Thank you ✌️🙏🤘
R.I.P Gary Rossington he's up there with the rest of them rocking out to free bird in the stars 🤘
Best southern rock band ever!!!!!!!!!!!
Blackberry smoke its a good band too
I like Skynyrd, but for me the Allmans were better in every way. (guitars - Duane & Dickey, singing and songwriting - Greg)
@@123jkjk123 no way.
Savoy brown
@Levi Thompson agreed
Right on from Seattle ❤
Billy Powell IS the most underrated GREAT PIANO GOD. And Ricky is and always has been one of the best pickers. Anyone come that close to Allen's part is pretty dam badass good
One thing thats so kool about it is Rick has always been an Explorer player too
Except when he was playing drums for Skynyrd ;)
Im so proud that I was raised listening to rock!!! Lynyrd Skynyrd will always be my favorite band
I don't understand how Rickey doesn't cry every time he plays this song. I do. 🙏❤️🎸
Just think how Gary Rossington must feel.
Maybe he does ...
fckn wimp he looks ar his bank balance lol
