Out of all the video I been watching, trying to figure out the difference between free coaster vs cassette. You explain it the best in Layman's terms. I just became subscriber and a fan.
I am 46 and I have rescued a BMX from going to the tip (the dump), I have no idea what any of these terms are? . But I am going learn a few tricks! Never had so much fun... on my own... in a pair of jeans! 😉 Subscribed 💪🇬🇧
Rode a bmx back in the 80’s-90’s when I was a kid and this cassette thing is new to me, all we rode back then was freecoasters. Thinking of riding again, and been on the fence if I should try the cassette this time around since it is the only built bike that I see available in my area. Thanks for the vid. 👍🏽👍🏽
Idk bout commenting but mines is a question. I remember as a youth until mid 90's When racing we preferred the 44t chainring 16t freewheel sprocket. If I were to get a 9t cassette what chainring can I use to attain the feel of 44t :16t. gear ratio. Keep in mind I still have my. 84 db super streak so yeah I'm old but I still ride. So keep postin an teaching youngsters 2 love tha bike world.
Thanks Rick! The exact ratio for a 44:16 is literally a 22:8, right down the middle. But because the 22 tooth sprocket isn’t really used as much anymore and neither is the 8 tooth driver it goes up by 1 tooth in the rear and 3 in the front to a 25:9. If you want it to feel a bit harder to crank, which gives you my torque you could do a 25:8 or a 28:9 again any addition of a tooth in the rear requires and addition of 3 in the front sprocket to keep the ratio feeling good.
Tyvm u just saved me tons of time n wrench turning n pulling my driver arm off n on. Since I gave my 9t free coaster to my buddy hmmm.....I got a 10t cassette hub., looks like lacing wheels is n my future.....tyvm you guys n the pool of knowledge is amazing

Female bolts go into the hub, and an axle has bolts that thread onto it
Free coasters open up a lot more freedom but cassettes kinda give you a bit more control with pedal pressure
