Love this channel. I'm 44yrs old, 1 year into semi serious BMX, and you have blessed me with a wealth of knowledge. Wish my city had an actual BMX shop. Huge fan, and the world needs more people like y'all.... And alfredo.... Where are my onsomeshit bike decals I ordered? Lol stay rad fellas
I had the odyssey tripple traps and the bear traps on my race bmx back in the day ive got a scars right down the middle of my left shin from those pedals this was around the mid skool time when i raced with Ross Hill back in the day
Dude I’ve literally been having the craziest issues with pedals so I’ve been doing some crazy research. You basically just took it to that level and helped me! My old shimanos bearings came out. Also the bearings came out of my HSing
Back in da day we called cage pedals bear claws, yes we have scars and proud of it! I’m mid forty’s and getting back in the mix, my hero is on yt he’s an incredible 68yr young man who’s savage 😉
2:36 When i rode dirt i had odyssey trail mix pedals, now i dont ride dirt much anymore, i run plastic pedals, i find are better for luc-e grind's and are more shin friendly
51 years old, been racing and riding since 82. The only beef I have against plastic/graphite pedals is when they get wet for whatever reason, they slip no matter what shoe you have on. And that can be a big problem. Other than that, they are cool in my books. I run aluminum platforms similar to the almighty Shimano DX bitd. I do not grind so I want max grip rain or shine.

I'm having trouble with those cage pedals on my MTB, I ride only in the city, would you recommend flat plastic pedals or flat aluminum pedals? I can't stand getting hit by my cage pedals anymore
@@dunnotck1 if you are using your bike for commuting daily on any weather aluminum pedals with removal pins are a way to go. They still hurt like a bitch but the gash you get won't be that big..
I have a size 16 shoe and weigh 290. What are the largest strongest pedal? I cruise on a Cult 29 and do about 30 miles a week. I use pedal extenders and they help but this is a real issue?
I have a pair of those kink pedals with no bearing and the issue is when they get older and spin less and less well so when pedalling it creates a harder resistance.

Redline Flight 3 pc is 1/2, perhaps bc its a old school throwback. Seems like most of the 3 pc cranks used 1/2 back in the day. These videos are teaching me- trying to update from 1996 BMX to present! A lot has changed. 😅

Foot position (riding on the arch/ ball of your feet’s,) and shoe size, and your weight could play into gripping your pedal, But more so whatever your comfortable with. Thanks Fredo, Phu, Max-Pain, and sleepEthan when he’s around, these vids help 🥳
i think you missed the part where the pedal size ? i mean what if a rider has a tiny foot for the pedals thats looks so big to them ? does is affects there riding too?

Could i recommend a fork how to for tech thursdays? Currently looking for a new pair but due to inly starting riding in May I'm 100% clued up in what to look for
Depends but id say a good base would be odyssey r32s or r25s just for the warranty. But depends. Wanna run a gyro? Do you have a frame with a tall headtube or want one. Do you want a more responsive fork or a stable fork. Or one that let's you play around like the shadows which I'd also recommend. Animal forks if you don't care about weight and want strong.
Lol come on phu E.D. Is Erectile Dysfunction. Lol. Great video alf. I thought I knew all I could about pedals. But I learned about the plastic caps being unsealed. Lol I looked it up Electrophoretic deposition. Guess I was wong.

The jcpc peddles are the way to go plastic platform Metal studs, what I do is take out the studs on one side on both peddles and only use one side for grip makes them last along time
I’m an old fart that still likes 20" bmx bikes and just built a new school fitbikeco XXL TRL and I almost ate it trying not to get hit by a minivan and took a pedal to the back of my right heel and by the time I got home the back of my sock was full of blood. I ordered a set of composite pedals as soon as I got home. I have a set of GT nylon pedals on a 24" cruiser and they are much more forgiving when you get whacked in the shin by one.
I think ED coating stands for _electric dipped_ coating?? I could be wrong. Edit: Another reason trail guys prefer metal is because they don’t flex or crack/ bend during hard impacts compared to plastic and they are gripper when wet. Same with SOME park and street guys pros who do large jumps and roof drops etc
If the pedals are a hard enough aluminum and you put short pins on one side or take em out they slide fine. They also last longer and sealed bearing pedals are rebuildable in a lot of cases. Sean burns claims that he feels flex in them. Hoder and my homie Taylor are just huge and snap em. I wanna do my pedal idea. Also Alf any way I could talk to you a but privately about that?
Old school tip for you guys.Buy the caged pedals and sharpen the teeth with a file or any kind of grinder/ Dremel tool. Then you can ride with your Cinderella slippers on.Just use shin pads or if you are a beginner use shin pads with a knee pad built in for when you slam into walls and parked cars.
I saw on a hoder interview once, he said he liked the flex of plastic pedals on big drops. Personally I hate the flex of plastic pedals. Also, when plastic padals get wet, they tend to be much more slippery than wet aluminum pedals with steel pins. Molded pin metal pedals are the worst

Allen or Unbrako? Fun- fact-> I worked for an aerospace company that designed the allen-key long before Allen. They call it the Unbrako. They have the dated pattens & early tool examples & I've seen them but they never wanted to mass produce the tool. Just the bolts. But it was always a sore spot kind of joke with the older guys that worked there. If a young guy asked for an allen key, he would usually get an Unbrako chucked at him. 🛠
Hey alfredo! 👋 this is super random! but would it be possible to ship them animal bpe clear animal pedals i seen in this video ?!? i have been looking for them forever! plzz get back to me, thanks alfredo
The pedals I love especially wearing a size 12 shoe odyssey tom dugan pedals and the shadow ravager pedals I just wish they made the ravager pedals longer and wider yes they have the new shadow surface pedals but the bump they left on the bearing messes with the grip in my opinion

I was so stoked to get those red anodized until the first shin bash. But that grip was awesome. Sucked if you pedal down around a corner too.

Worth telling people that Shimano DX were the OG platform pedals that all the pedals we use today are based on. They were total game changers.
9:44 17mm flats on the Odyssey OGPC JCPC Pedals aswell 🔥👍🚲💨
Grandstand Alloys too
@@ryanmccarthy9088 By the time the grandstand pedal come out I already had made the switch to plastic pedals 👍🚲💨
Pedal height can also play a role in how your bike feels
Worth mentioning bushings keep the pedal from spinning. Eclat also made a pedal with replaceable/reverseable bodies and removable pins.
Thanks alfredo and phu for the vlog
