Only if people understand it's a sucessor and not an other model of switch. Otherwise it'll flop, customer base will stay on switch and Nintendo will have a problem on their hand.

The Reddit leaks have been confirmed as being from a prototype version over 6 months ago. Though I think it's safe to say the actual device will be revealed by Nintendo any day now!
Since they kinda discontinued their Handheld line, and fused those two departments together, they also kinda drove themselves into a corner, though one that is massively popular especially in Japan. I think it's only logical since a home console would upset many, similarly with an handheld only. The question is if they can keep this up forever or will go both ways again.
@@NeptuniaMorgan I'm pretty sure Nintendo's days of wild hardware innovations are done, or at least will remain dormant for a long while. like, they've done some awesome stuff that have fundamentally shaped gaming as a hobby for decades, but the Switch is more or less the endpoint. console hardware, like smart phones, have settled into their niche, and the longer lifespans we're getting each generation lead to better games and more people enjoying larger game libraries for longer. Nintendo probably isn't looking to upturn the table again, not while they're playing winning hands.
What worries me about all of these spec improvements is what is it going to do to battery life. To me that is the most important spec for a portable system
Bigger console should = bigger battery. Remember, from 8 years ago, RAM, processors, and Hard Drives have gotten smaller so we could get a more substantial battery life.
That’s why they don’t do a ton with clock speeds sadly, you can tell Nintendo really prioritizes battery life. I worry about the exact opposite point. I’m hoping for a performance mode that really pushes it if we want to. We can always plug in.
It still amazes me that even with the success of having them on the DS, a camera has not made it's way onto the Switch. Especially when they were in the VR era, it seems like AR would be a logical step having done it on DS with those cards before. It seems like we'll have microphone capabilities here, but I miss the DSi photo albums and charming things like that that came with the mic and camera.
Are you sure some of this isn't a translation error? 1:19 Jon is saying the switch 2 has 2,500 GB of flash storage, so 2.5 TB. There is now way this thing is launching with 2.5 TB of storage. 250 GB would be more reasonable especially if Nintendo is trying to heavily cut costs.
You said somewhere that the "leaked" PCB looked like the Switch Lite's. Could you give a link of the Lite's pcb (or the prototype of the Lite)? Would appreciate that
It's unlikely but still possible that Nintendo has some sort of gimmick attached to this console that wasn't captured by this leak. They mention that it's a prototype, presumably to prepare for manufacture. It's entirely possible Nintendo will add in a last minute change, that they will reveal in the official announcement, before the relevant components for it can be leaked from the factory, by datamining or the factory workers just leaking it.
This isn’t a prototype. The picture has a not yet assembled unit. The CAD drawings were of the prototype. And so far the parts we have seen match the final product
Call me crazy but the built in microphone is the gimmick. We'll have Nintendogs, Hey You Pikachu on N64, Mario Party 6 (with the new GameCube emulator).
I'm going to laugh if all of these leaks and rumors prove to be wrong, when the next Nintendo turns out to be something totally different and unexpected out of no where.
I just looked at the photos and I just don't think Nintendo is going to release something without any sort of extra hook to it... Just making a more powerful switch with a bigger screen, just doesn't feel like Nintendo to me.
It doesn’t, but given Nintendo somewhat struck gold with the Switch, I guess they don't entirely need to abandon it. I imagine the extra power alone will allow them to do more with the software/OS that wasn’t as feasible before, so that could be where the gimmicks/upgrades really lie
@@TerminatorJuice as an industrial engineer I can assure you thst this pictured are very very real. i really think this time is gonna be really different than last gens. the switch was coming out 3 years before the ps5 was even announced, which had a huge performance boost compared to its predecessor. but said predecessor was miles ahead of the switch already, which made the switch age like milk in comparison to the rivalling consoles. this time though, there really isn‘t much of an upgrade possible, which will make the jump from ps5 to ps6 (and xbox consoles ofc) much smaller than the previous one. ergo: the switch 2 will age much better and may be a viable option to really be able to enjoy modern games on the go. i‘m really looking forward to this and maybe i‘m reconsidering if i should get this or a steam deck. only time will tell.
I really hope so. People say the Switch is what Nintendo wanted to make with the Wii U, but it's still missing the dual screen aspect. They'd better give us DS games on Nintendo Online! But preferably with more screen options. In a lot of games, it would be ideal to let us swap the screens. They'd need to add button controls, but they should. A lot of those stylus controlled games should not have been stylus controlled anyway.
still going to be super uncomfortable in handheld mode i see. No shaped grip like the steamdeck means this thing is going to be a cramping nightmare, especially if it actually is bigger as well.
I kept saying for years now ever since I got the first internal rumblings that this switch successor is going to be by comparison a goddamn monster. Like I don't think people realized even with the steam deck. How much mobile Tech has truly left since 2017. To put it in perspective in 2017 you basically got a Xbox 360 with modern architecture. By comparison now based on even the early as specs that we got which seem to have completely lined up, you're getting a PlayStation 4 with all its bells and whistles in handheld mode and then you are getting somewhere between A PlayStation 4 Pro and an Xbox series s with insanely high quality upscaled 4K on your TV. Like sure if you zoom in and look at stuff, you'll notice that there is a performance drop compared to the PlayStation 5 the series X and especially the upcoming PlayStation 4 Pro. As such, a minor bump that system does, but you combine the fact that Nintendo first party puts both their money and their talent into stuff to the point where people were perplexed on how Luigi's Mansion. 3. Looks like something running on a base PlayStation. 5 and by comparison certain high quality third parties did things like make alien isolation run better on the 2017 ancient hardware that it did on the PlayStation for hardware... I keep saying that expected next Mario game to look a lot like the visual Fidelity that astrobot currently has. Like especially with the amount of money that not only Nintendo has raked in. But how much they're going to put on its system? Its development studios. It's a marketing and it's pipeline. I feel like if the switch was the NES of this generation, this is the Super Nintendo and Nintendo's. Probably to put it lightly going to be out for blood on this, especially since they pretty much have the market in their hands. This is going to be a unprecedented, ridiculous time and it's impressive. Considering back between 2012 and 2016 everyone thought Nintendo was going to go third party. My running punch line is that that's actually what Microsoft did. 😅
It’s funny you mention Animal Crossing loading times. I like many people played that game for around 150 hours and don’t remember ever really thinking about its loading times.
It does kinda just look like an OLED, but the overall size increase will make up for it I think. As well, the face buttons seem bigger and the sticks seem to have more of a rim. Not to mention all the color variants that are probably to follow. I think they wanted to maintain the recognizable design.
@@RacingSnails64 yeah don't get me wrong. I'm stoked for the Switch 2. Going to pre order right away. I was just hoping for something a bit more visually exciting. It doesn't't really matter though. The quality and performance of the machine is what's most important.
So close to not having to see that ugly ass Switch 2 placeholder design that we've all seen on a billion clickbait thumbnails anymore. So TANTALISINGLY close...
We've since learned that the 3D model is based on the manufacturer prototype, but isn't legitimate in itself. If you inspect it closely, you'll see that it is just a tweaked OLED model. This would also explain why there are differences between the two alleged prototypes. Notice how the Joy-Cons on the prototype are flattened towards the top but the ones seen on the 3D model are rounded much like the original Joy-Cons.
This is 100% real. Look at the right joycon. It has 2 button holes on the bottom half, just like developers said they felt when they stuck their hands in the box. 1 extra button next to the home button
@@lol-ih1tl I personally believe capcom has been waiting for the moment they can implement players screaming "OBJECTION" again into their microphones. That moment has arrived.
I like the idea of charging it from the top in hand held mode mostly cause I tend to ruin chargers by propping my switch against pillows and stuff. My current one has a permanent bend in it. Also it having one on the bottom too means it can still dock.
I'm not sure I believe this, but I said the same thing right before the PS5 Pro announcment, so who knows. If they really are doing another more powerful switch, that's great, because all it really needs to be. They have a history of wanting to make something weird and mix things up, but since their handheld and home console lineups have merged, it's even more important to continue the lineup and give us backward compatibility. Hopefully they included an m.2 slot for faster loading compared to using an SD card.
If this ends up being true, then the best bit of news to me is the HDMI 2.1 connector, because it opens the possibility for VRR support. That would be an amazing thing to have, considering how many games on Switch did drop frames at least occasionally. Especially if handheld mode supported it.
We're having our Eurogamer in July 2016 moment - though it was more exciting then because the NX form factor was mind-blowing back then. However, we've reached a point where we want that same form factor, but better and beefier. An evolution instead of a revolution, which is perfectly fine (to me at least).

Those specs mean it will get all the important 3rd party current-gen games ported to it, no question. Combined with Nintendo's 1st party pantheon of games, this will steamroll the competition.
Only if people understand it's a sucessor and not an other model of switch. Otherwise it'll flop, customer base will stay on switch and Nintendo will have a problem on their hand.
@@Gabriel-ly3yn After the leaks of it being called "Switch 2" and Nintendo's experiences with Wii U, I'm not worried about that in the slightest.

So it kinda sounds like they're future proofing themselves a little bit. We already know the Switch is a generation behind, but it sounds like this time they're trying to get that middle ground of being between a Series S and Series X console (but handheld). Maybe this next run will be 10 years instead of 7-8.
I love the move to using the Switch Lite design language in it with rounded edges. Very nice.
Quick note, what you referred to as the detached button on the back are actually new dedicated grip buttons meant for gameplay use in addition to L/R/ZL/ZR. That extra button you referred to later is likely for the magnetic detaching.

Switch 2: Magnetic Boogaloo
I am glad that the rumours just seem to boil down to “yep that’s a switch alright” for Nintendo this is a seemingly rare occurrence lol
Microphone and headphones jacks? Must mean no more having to use the phone as a chat option.
The classic switch already has a headphone jack and a microphone on the console itself isn't a good solution for voice chat anyway- anyone here remember "Wii speak"?
Don't expect a new console with beefier specs to change Nintendo's online-phobic away of presenting games
@@davidlane1248Well, headphone users would be fine at least. And maybe their noise canceling technology will be better. I mean, it should actually be easier than what noise-canceling headphones can do since the console has the actual audio data it can use to invert and cancel out.
This has got me really excited!
Hi Dude.

If true, the fact that it has a built in microphone bodes well for their intention with online games.
Looking forward to the proper reveal, when ever that is.

To be honest, the first Switch was such a outstanding success that it just makes sense to just make it again, but with stronger specs.
What a great time to be on my lunch break!
If real, this looks so similar to the Switch that I think it pretty much confirms that it will just be called the Switch 2.
The New Nintendo Switch (please no)
What worries me about all of these spec improvements is what is it going to do to battery life. To me that is the most important spec for a portable system
Bigger console should = bigger battery. Remember, from 8 years ago, RAM, processors, and Hard Drives have gotten smaller so we could get a more substantial battery life.
Totally disagree sorry
From the photos the battery takes up nearly half the console space so hopefully
The battery space looks like it's 50-75% bigger so the battery capacity could be quite a bit larger.
If Switch 2 gets a camera, it would be primarily used for scanning qr codes.
I checked and yes it's 256 GB
I think he meant to say 256gb but accidentally said 2,506gb
Yeah it's an error. 256GB, not 2560 (which is 2.5 TB)
If the magnet rails were true, those gotta be very good magnets design wise, otherwise it's going to lead into many falling controlllers accidents
The future of portable systems is that we're carrying them in big strap bags and purses, which is sad.
nah
So a jacked up Nintendo Switch then? Sounds good.
John you wait until the official release to find out there’s actually a beating mouse heart running the system that’s the gimmick.

If we go by the switch lite factory leak, it happened 2/3 months before the actual reveal. So this bodes well for a switch 2 reveal in early 2025!

I highly doubt that they're going to make a big gimmick be a "last minute change". Last minute changes are generally very minor.
@@lol-ih1tl Unless maybe the gimmick is internal (I doubt this) or OS related, the latter of which I could see them doing.
@@Paraguai123 i think the new rumble and triggers could be a gimmick
I'm going to laugh if all of these leaks and rumors prove to be wrong, when the next Nintendo turns out to be something totally different and unexpected out of no where.

I think the second capture button is for when you are doing co-op and your friend has the option to take photos if they have the right joycon
I imagine the extra power alone will allow them to do more with the software/OS that wasn’t as feasible before, so that could be where the gimmicks/upgrades really lie
i mean thats exactly what they did with the snes, gamecube, gbc, gba and arguably wii u
@@TerminatorJuice as an industrial engineer I can assure you thst this pictured are very very real. Not something you can whip up with a 3D Printer

The CAD drawings were also very convincing, but any engineering student xan whip those up. Its the parts which sell the deal
Old Nintendo is gone. You’ll need to get used to it eventually. Old Nintendo died when Iwata passed away and Reggie left
To me Nintendo has decided to innovate through their software, their major IPs, as opposed to trying to innovate through hardware.
i really think this time is gonna be really different than last gens.
the switch was coming out 3 years before the ps5 was even announced, which had a huge performance boost compared to its predecessor.
but said predecessor was miles ahead of the switch already, which made the switch age like milk in comparison to the rivalling consoles.
this time though, there really isn‘t much of an upgrade possible, which will make the jump from ps5 to ps6 (and xbox consoles ofc) much smaller than the previous one.
ergo: the switch 2 will age much better and may be a viable option to really be able to enjoy modern games on the go.
i‘m really looking forward to this and maybe i‘m reconsidering if i should get this or a steam deck.
only time will tell.
ITS GOING TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT WIRELESSLY TO THE DOCK. 2 SCREENS. WII U/DS/3DS GAMES ARE BACK
This is my big prediction
@@dannybootsI highly doubt that.

Third party joycons with grips, the thing’s modular
grips would only work if they're designed in a way that they could work in both horizontally and vertically.
I believe GVG and I trust Jon Cartwright with my life.
Eh, he’s no Waddle Dee Knows. 😉
Are you kidding? These are just CG renders!
I'll start caring when we have actual Pictures
It’s funny you mention Animal Crossing loading times. I like many people played that game for around 150 hours and don’t remember ever really thinking about its loading times.
The top thing is not a USB C, it's the cutout for the ambient light sensors
No stylus, no deal!
You can use the Mario Maker 2 stylus if you want.
Looks basically exactly the same as the existing Switch. That's kinda disappointing. I was hoping for a new visual design.

It feels like they have taken the strategy of the 3DS line with the New 3DS being a more powerful version of the 3DS which was smart to do
Was kinda hoping for the successor to have two screens so that DS games didn't have to be lost to time.

If this ends up being true, then the best bit of news to me is the HDMI 2.1 connector, because it opens the possibility for VRR support. That would be an amazing thing to have, considering how many games on Switch did drop frames at least occasionally. Especially if handheld mode supported it.
Well downloaded all the pictures without looking at them and copy pasted the specs, kinda cool if true!
We're having our Eurogamer in July 2016 moment - though it was more exciting then because the NX form factor was mind-blowing back then.
