    Matt;
    I don't usually make online comments but I felt it necessary this time. Thank you for taking the time to create this video. I've been an Isuzu driver for a couple decades and have always done my own repairs. I made the mistake of purchasing a 2004 Rodeo with the "direct injection" a couple years back. It had a coolant leak under the intake manifold and one of the "variable valve timing solenoids" was leaking oil (it took 3 months to get one from Japan.) There was no manual available for that engine at that time so I had to just use common sense and trial and error. I got it back together and sold it ASAP. I'm fixing to replace the plenum gasket on the 02 now and watched your video to refresh my memory. My main reason for commenting is to compliment you on how detailed, patient and humble you are during the course of your video and to thank you for not dubbing it with some horrible background noise. Unlike many of the online DIY videos, you don't profess to be a know-it-all. I've always said, "12 years of school don't make a good doctor. You're either born with common sense or your not." Just an FYI for you or anyone else out there who may not know already; there is an online company called Books4cars.com with a store front in Seattle where you can get hard to find manuals. I am in no way affiliated but have purchased many factory service manuals from them. Thanks again for taking the time.

      Wow Patrick, thank you so much for your very thoughtful comments! I can't tell you how much I appreciate hearing your kind words. The only reason I started to post my videos in the first place was to try to help others in the same way that other strangers had helped me in the past with detailed write-ups and videos. When I first started working on my own vehicles, I was a complete novice with no experience at all and lacking very severely in confidence. It is from that posture that I film my videos - my belief is that if I can convey that I am relatively inexperienced yet can still tackle these projects, then anyone else can, too. I hope to instill confidence in others, because for me, just finding the courage to get started is often the biggest obstacle.
      I can't tell you how rewarding it is to hear from someone that has found one of my videos/series helpful. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. And also, thanks so much for the tip about difficult-to-find repair manuals! I had never heard of Books4cars.com, so this is an amazing resource to have in case I am ever looking for a rare manual.
      Thanks again for watching and for taking the time to pass along your very kind words...it means a great deal to me!

      Thanks! And I agree....that was one of the main motivations for me posting these videos. There's just not much material on here about Isuzus. I figured I needed to do this repair regardless, so I may as well try to document it and help out someone else if I could.
      Thanks for watching!

    Matt, Thanks for this video series. I'm a newbie (of sorts) to engine repairs. My father made us learn how to do repairs as kids. But it's been a good 20 years since I've worked on an engine. And I am getting ready to tackle replacing the head gaskets on my 3.2l v6 '98 Rodeo. So your video series has instilled in me a little more confidence in tackling it.

      You're welcome, Sheldon! That is so great for me to hear - the only reason I started making these videos was to try to give confidence to other people. My theory is that if someone can watch a relative novice like myself do something, then surely they'll feel confident that they can do it, too. Thanks for sharing your kind words. I hope your head gasket replacement goes well! Let me know how it turns out.

    Matt, I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for taking the time, and putting forth the effort of making these videos to help out people like me. I just recently had to install a new timing belt on a 2000 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2. WHAT A FREAKING JOB!! All those timing marks!! I even made my own videos for YT showing that they will run on 3 cylinders! I even proved mine would run on 2 cylinders! Your videos are absolutely a godsend! Once again thank you so much for your time, effort, and knowledge sir! My Rodeo now runs like she's brand new thanks to your help!! Again my friend...THANK YOU!!!!

      Wow, Duane that is awesome! I am humbled by your kind words, and at the same time, thrilled that I may have somehow helped you out. Thanks so much for sharing this...it made my day. Great work on nursing your rodeo back to health! I hope it keeps running well for a long time!

    All your videos on this subject were great. my manifold is on the workbench now . I wondering about he vacuum control and linkage for the butterfly valves in the plenum. I am thinking that will be hard to get to in ;the future. Did you replace it? Even with the service manual , some of these components, are hard to research, like formed hoses etc.

    Im rebuilding a 3.2 right now and the intake was full of sludge. 6 cans of carb cleaner to get it out. What I have observed is all this oil burning is coming from stuck oil rings. The rings are stuck from blow by caused by rings bouncing off of mild deformities in the sleeves. I honed out the cylinders to smooth out these "bumps." Anybody rebuilding a 3.2 Isuzu should probably just plan for a bore job.

    if your doing this,replace the cam angle sensor while the manifold is off,,they fail after 300000ks or so.

    Is it possible to split the upper and lower in half without removing the whole thing from the engine first?
    In other words can you take the upper off leaving the lower attached to the engine?

      Jon, I'm so sorry for not replying sooner - I was completely overwhelmed at work this summer/fall and I am just now getting a chance to catch up on messages and comments. Please accept my apology, as I do try to make a point to respond to viewers in a timely manner. I just got swamped over the summer and really couldn't keep up.
      Yes - it is possible to remove only the bolts that secure the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold. There should be (8) bolts holding the upper onto the lower.
      Thanks for watching!

    how many hrs of labor did it take to remove and install the manifold assembly

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  7 лет назад

      Michael, I'm sorry for my tardy reply, but I would estimate this project took me 12-16 hours - but that includes filming, as well as some of the additional "projects" I did while I had everything taken apart (thermostat, coolant hoses, fuel pressure regulator).

    thank you for the aweome video, i need to watch one now on how to remove the engine head on that engine

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  7 лет назад

      You're welcome, Jeremy! I'm sorry to hear you need to tackle such a project. This series should be a good start...but in addition, you'll need to disconnect the exhaust manifold, remove both valve covers, remove the timing covers, and remove the timing belts. That should isolate the heads from the rest of the engine components. Then you'll need to loosen the head bolts in the correct sequence and pull the heads.
      Check the "about" tab on my RUclips page for a link to download the Isuzu factory service manual. Good luck!

    got a quick question, took mine off of my 2002 axiom the valves are staying open instead of closed. When a vacuum is applied the valves close.....something isnt right.
    When you split the intake were the valves open or closed?

    • @timharwell2735
      @timharwell2735 7 лет назад +1

      ofspecialk I assume your talking about the butterfly valves inside the intake? If so, that's normal. The computer sends vacuum to them to hold them closed under low rpm, then takes it away at high rpm so they will open.

      Tim Harwell thanks for the reply, figured it out through assembly. thanks again for the helpful tutorial.

    in australia we call it the holden rodeo - my dad used to have one - it was a 2.8L Turbo diesel with a 5 speed HI Torque gearbox (4Wd) - now holden sells the Holden collorado and isuzu sells there Isuzu D-Max

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  7 лет назад

      Yeah, I really wish the U.S. had gotten some of the cool options you guys have in Australia. We didn't have any late-model diesel Isuzu vehicles available here. Pretty neat stuff you have there!

    • @Footrotflats251
      @Footrotflats251 7 лет назад

      Matt Payne dont worry you didnt miss out on much - our rodeo lasted 200'000km before it threw a rod, i dont see any diesel rodeos going around anymore but i still see heaps of petrol / gasoline ones woth 500'000+ km and a few of them on LPG / Propane (harder on the motor) and still going strong

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  7 лет назад

      That is surprising to me. The Isuzu diesel motors seem to have a good reputation, while the gas motors have some known oil burning issues. However, if you stay on top of the oil level, they do seem to stay strong for a long while with a little TLC. The automatic transmissions were really the one weak link in all of the Isuzu vehicles. It's a shame they went cheap on such a critical piece of otherwise very capable vehicles.
