My 97 looks just like it...literally looks brand new! Has 160,000 miles on it.
Japanese design/ build very reliable vehicles and get good gas mileage too!
      I'll never buy a Ford/Chevy/Dodge again...they're junk nowadays.

Good to see a video from you Jay! Finding a nice Rodeo or most Isuzu's in general is getting harder these days sadly. I always look at them and think they are cool especially with the interiors they had and the paint combos you could get. I still see them but where I live we have salt so rust is a thing. This is a great survivor and I'm sure it will go to a good home. These are really reliable as well which is nice.

These were a Holden Passport in Australia. The Holden Rodeo was the ute version. Same interior, wheels, front end, etc. with a tray on the back. We had two of them when I was a kid. They were invincible with the 3L turbo diesel. Wish we never sold them. Incredibly capable.

Very cool! I wish Isuzu still sold vehicles for civilians in the U.S. (they still sell trucks, box trucks....but that wouldn't look right unless you owned a business) Those Rodeos were tough and popular at one time. The last of the genuine off road 4x4s, not like this plush crap they make now. Isuzu also made a car called the VehiCross, it was considered "revolutionary" back in the late 90s when it came out and was moderately popular but you dont see them anymore. Very nice! Thanks for sharing, Jay!

    • @CaptHollister

Ony someone who never owned one would claim these vehicles were tough. Tough to keep running more than a few weeks at a time, maybe.

I guess most US cars is automatic. I was a bit surprised when people were starting to write "unicorn!" about my black 1995 Trooper LTD 3.2 5 speed manual. I live in Sweden where they was never sold as new so I guess it´s a unicorn in it´s own way here too. I can say it made an Isuzu lover out of me. That hydraulic lifter noise will go away with some frequent oil changes and some driving. About the timing belt. They are pretty easy to change, also they are non-interference if it should break.

I have the same rig…almost. My is a 1997 and the A/C doesn’t work and has 48,000 miles. Otherwise, identical. Great rig. I found it in Maryland 2 years ago with 31,000 miles on it and the fuel pump didn’t work. It had rust in the tank - a fresh used tank from Utah and I have been good to go. Live my Rodeo.
All the same issues. Hood latch, radio, etc. Hilarious.

Back then I remember that v6 was known for not being thrifty. Mileage compared to the v8 Explorer depending on how you drove it. But a very common motor across all their SUVs including that weird VehiCross or whatever it was called. So maybe getting parts for the engine is not a problem since there are likely many still in service? At $2,500 IMHO that's a real bargain.

In early 1992 I purchased a brand new left-over '91 with the same specs. It had remained unsold because of the manual tranny. I'd like to say what a nice SUV it was and occasionally it was true, it certainly worked well in snow, but the reality is that it was one of the worst POSs it was my misfortune to own. "Unreliable" doesn't begin to cover it. It was badly put together in Indiana and even the GM 2.8 V6 was barely mediocre. Ran on 5 as often as it ran on 6. Leaked coolant from new. Had a bad head gasket also from new. Every mechanical component broke at least once. Heck, even the paint came off in large sections. Then one morning, after two miserable years of ownership, it broke a rear suspension mount simply driving out of my driveway. That was the end for me: I returned it to the dealership. Oh, and that fuel pump ? yeah, it was crap from the factory. Mine was driven a lot, but it still quit, leaving me stranded in heavy rush-hour traffic to the dismay and chagrin of the poor folk behind me, some of whom vociferously expressed their doubts as to the validity of my parents' marriage.
