I love watching you create these repair pieces, I build models and can shape Plastic fairly well but you chop bend and cut it as if it was cardboard - wonderful to watch
I REALLY wish this video has been out a year ago when I had to do this. Complete novice at sheet metal work and figuring this piece out was so hard. Seeing the process in this vid has taught me a lot. In the end my method wasn't too far from this but you made it look a lot easier!
This has to one of the best Works of Art you guys have done to date. There is no way a reasonable amateur could get anywhere near what you have produced here and get it to fit first time. I am just so impressed with the skill level and the inventiveness displayed here. Looking forward to watch what you do with the sill end plate as it will involve not just the end plate fabrication but also replacing the framework that has rusted away to allow it to be connected to the car. I assume you will not buy a Mazda Sill End Plate. Just Magic!
Once again, very nice work! I've not done anything like this in years and call me mad but I miss it a bit. I can almost feel the sparks on the top of my head! :P
Hi! Was living in Russia, this welding procedures are a well known thing with our climate and detergents that the government use to cover the roads in winter. I am surprised that MX-5 rust that much, eventhough we always joked that all Japanese cars would outlast humans if they weren't so poorly protected from corrosion. I owned a vw golf 4, it had 25 years and 300000 in the most aggressive region in Moscow, and sold it with a tiny rust spots on the front wing. Makes you wanna think..
@@yorkshirecarrestoration makes sense...thanks for the tip. Always wanted to get into this kind of stuff in the future for projects. I want to restore a 69 Camaro

What gauge of steel are you using here for your new patches? I’m going to have a go with my mk2 in the next few months, thanks for the videos
Hi Adam. The strtural parts we always use 1.2 mm or larger but all of the none structural are 1mm
Hi mate how much did you charge for this, mine might need something a little less as bad but similar x
IS THERE A REASON YOUR KINDA JUST TACK WELDING ALONG INSTEAD OF JUST GOING FOR THE ENTIRE THING?
Hi Ryan. Yes its due to heat transfer, too much heat would warp the panel :)

It's very cool! but my car costs $1500, and such work costs $500...
A MK1 here is £4K + and that repair was £350 at the time.
@@yorkshirecarrestoration oh, nice! in Poland or even Canada - prices 3-4 times higher.
