Your knowledge is very extensive and certainly sounds very objective. And thanks - you've made me feel better about my beloved Hublot Big Bang Blue and Gold. Incidentally, Hublot's customer service is exceptional.
First time watching your video. The JLC comments are spot on. I can't see how anyone can or will disagree. JLC definitely one of the best (quality and craftmanship) ever. They are either living in the past or future, because they are releasing watches thats really not hyped in the current market. Benedict Cumberbatch with the Dr Strange series, I think Marvel did a huge boost to the JLC brand. I own a vintage Memovox and always wanted a reverso but just couldn't pull the trigger and I dont think i will ever pay a JLC at list.
The Cartier high end pieces have movements from Carole Forestier Kasapi - a brilliant watch maker. They are top. She now works for TAG and creates some amazing stuff there.
I own a two Omega watches: Planet Ocean, which was one of my first luxury item that I ever bought myself (early 2000s) and my father's Seamaster De Ville with the day and date he bought in Vietnam in 1968. He told me there are no calendars in the jungle. I do want a Speedmaster, but everytime I look at the retail price it keeps going up. I probably going to have to by used. I do like how Nomos looks.
Unbelievable assessment of these brands, +\-. You have quickly become my go to RUclipsr based on your unabashed integrity, and allowing for the viewer to make up our own minds. I would say you are the Consumer Reports of the watch industry. For those viewers who don't know, CR is an independent magazine in the US which evaluates consumer brands (like cars). It never takes money from any brand neither.
Another great video. I wish I had seen it back in 2019 when I bought my Breitling SuperOcean. I love the watch. I wear it very often, but as you said, it loses value very quickly. If one day, I decide to sell it, the value will indeed drop a lot. I also agree with you on Casio. I have more G-SHOCK than I would like to have. Cheers
Same thing happened with me and my Superocean Heritage. Fell out of love with it. Even though I bought it new at 20% under retail, it will still lose half of what I paid if selling to a pre-owned watch dealer. I can do better with a private sale but the risk is too high.
All watches. Boutique/AD retail for the experience. AD discount for the warranty. Gray Market for larger discount, no sales tax vs no warranty risk. Secondary market for greatest discount vs used, history risk, fake risk and reduced warranty. Each brand, falls into a best case scenario, for each category. Watch the market, set a strike price and wait until the deal shows up. You’ll never be financially hurt, if you need or want to move the watch, as your tastes change. Omega is one of the few brands that have exceptional selection, movements and designs, for incredible prices, after the ‘on the wrist, out the retail store’ financial hit.
I slightly disagree with Cartier is as whole Fashion brand it's a jewellery brand ..and if recall jewellery & watch making used to go along together for a long period of time
You are correct. A watchmaker who made a pocket watch with intricate design for the Business Owner or other Man of stature, they would get jewelry made for their wife from the same shop
What you said about G Shock is so true. I have 20 G Shocks, but rarely choose to wear it over my Date Just, Santos, Offshore, or RM. I know this, but for some reason have to keep buying ever 2100 variant that released lol
Breitling B01 was their first in-house calibre and highly accurate within METAS standards. It is used in their Chronomat and Navitimer. I think they deserve a worthy mention as far as quality goes.
Just procured a couple year old JLC Rendezvous for my wife because they are a great watch that loses value after initial purchase. Beautiful hand guilloche dial, lovely in house automatic movement and as you said the reputation as the watchmaker’s watchmaker. I’m not really taken with any of their men’s watches but I think the blue alligator strap securing that lovely dial will look good on my wife’s elegant wrist.
It’s funny, Mike: my first acquisitions from Breitling were deliberately selected for their brushed, stealthy finishes-the Superocean Professional, and their OG Blackbird when it was in a sub 42mm case, none of which were their part of their “Shiny-Shiny” offerings.
In fairness, not all of their watches are "shiny-shiny" but they do generally have a lot of more "eye-catching" watches. Understated isn't them, but when they do it they usually make watches that are quite good looking 😀
Great content. Easily one of the best on youtube. Insightful and independent. AP is an one watch wonder and doesn't deserve to be a HT. JLC can be one but its positioning is confused. Omega can be so much more if it understands that less is more. So true about casio g- shock. Tend to wear a cartier to work and a rolex sport in the weekend. When would i get to wear a G shock?.... spot on. Love the analyis.....😅
Thanks Mike. This is high quality content which few can emulate...Really enjoyed it....cut right through the marketing BS, ensuring customers are buying for value rather than hype.. You have done more for the watch buyer / collector community in one year than most other "experts" have done in ten...Think you may have raised the bar very high for your peers.... par excellence...best in class analysis....
Another fantastic video! So informative and entertaining. BTW, I do find myself wearing my solar bluetooth G-Shock several times per week, although it's almost never the first watch I put on in the morning. I often swap it in as my beater during any activity where I could easily damage a watch, e.g., sports, outdoor chores. I'm not surprised that Nico doesn't wear his during videos, I probably wouldn't either in his place, but that doesn't necessarily indicate he never wears it.
Happy Saturday, Michael! Really appreciate the mix of marketing/ brand story/ brand vision, quality, and aesthetic observations that you bring to the videos. This one hit all the high points. These are fantastic explainers or conversation starters, depending on where one is in the hobby (obsession?). Thank you.
I have a Breitling Avenger Bandit. Its great, but sits in the case and never comes out. I have my rare casio solar rangeman. Love it, but rarely is worn. EDC is a garmin Instinct solar as it does what I want and the Casio version, just doesnt come close......and i really wanted the new version. Next watch.......Garmin Epix, when they release the new one in 2024. Rugged, does what I want, and well priced. I would love another 'luxury' watch, but i will never wear that Longiness Hydroconquest, Omega or Rolex. But actually....I'll buy the Marathon GSAR or Victorinox pro diver. Guess I've lost the watch bug. Great video.
Absolutely love your channel! Never knew the intricacy of watch making or the branding aspects and so much more that I get to learn about. Always liked looking at beautiful timepieces and your videos just make me respect and enjoy it so much more. Some ideas for your next top 10 brands videos - the “ultra” luxurious ones such as MB&F, Jacob & Co, Bovet, Richard Mille and so on. Would love your take on some other less discussed brands such as Rado (premium or entry level luxury but never spoken about it seems), Kenneth Cole ( I know it’s a fashion watch but their skeleton watches are quite amazing in my opinion, they’re also cheap with automatic movements), Fossil (growing up this was really popular). Thanks again for the amazing content!
Glad you like my videos. I try to add a perspective, which isn't a truth or an objective set of facts. It's an opinion that I share for people to have a starting point for discussion 😀😀
Amazing realistic opinion, I like your review and in your words I find all what I thought about these watch brands. Thank you for putting in words the images and reality of these watches
Entertaining food for thought, as always. JKC cam make some beautiful & interesting watches. I hope they take care of their business. I have a G-Shock with compass, altimeter, etc. that I use for hiking kayaking, skiing and yard work. Otherwise a couple of boxes of sport & dress watches with a few colorful fun pieces mixed in.
I think Nomos and Glashütte should collaborate and do special fun colors of the Sea Q in particular I think a magenta Sea Q would really rock the boat 🚤
Great takes, especially on Casio. I think some people don't actually appreciate Casio as much as they say. Many collectors and youtubers) are mainly into luxury/status/investment watches but are not honest about it. The inclusion of Casios in their collection/content, is basically an affordable "token" piece that they occasionally refer to.
Thank you, top content as usual and your take on Nomos is interesting. In the next video, I would love to hear your perspective on Baume & Mercier and Rado
Design coming first does not necessarily lessen the horology feat. The new Tortue with its accordingly shaped movement, the movement in the rotor, the beautiful skeletonized movements, these are fascinating watchmaking achievements in response to original design challenges. “God tier fashion watches“ is an interesting take on Cartier, although it remains more derogatory than the brand deserves. Cartier is simply acclaimed for its iconic designs, while having excellent watchmaking credentials and history. Great video, thanks!
I personally love this content. You could do some long format videos about some of these brands but you are very efficient. Brands I’d love to hear some thoughts on in the future, Chopard, Glashutte Original, Breguet… there are many other like Jacque Droz that are probably only interesting to a very special kind of watch geek but I think those three should be more mainstream than they are. You can buy models from them for less than the open market price for a Submariner and they offer so much.
Mike - like the new filmset. Amazon Snowflake used a brown background (I guess no expense spared) so the people pop as the only item of colour - impact and our full attention - other people have also used this approach . . . Your approach has a twist! There is also a purple wash in the background ! As ever off topic - your WATCH channel is great for philosphy and analysis across a spectrum of consumer goods. I bought a newer car recently and there were obvious watch themes with shapes and textures. Their showroom is like a cathedral - also walked past the workshop area where cars are maintained and repaired. VW are like OMEGA they cater for all customers with their range of brands . . . from Skoda to Lamborghini. The ultimate accessory for use with a G-Shock is a cement mixer . . . I will be thrilled when that day arrives. Your channel might also be considered a lifestyle channel 🙂
I'll never forget Archie Luxury's take on Cartier....he watched a watch maker remove the back from his Cartier, and saw a plastic movement holder inside. Plastic ! He said....to quote.."I got rid of it, The f***ing thing gave me the sh*ts" 😂
G-Shocks are great for those moments when I don't want to risk scratching up my precious watches. So at work and on the beach, there is always one on my wrist.
True but I agree - only 1 is needed ( 5610 or Bluetooth version ) - otherwise, there's a danger of turning into Greg Anderson ( I hope his collection don't all run out of batteries at the same time).
@@jaysterling26 Agreed. I usually have the 5610 on my wrist. I also have a 5600 (the most simple square one can buy) and the stainless steen square. The B5000. I prefer the 5610 to the B5000. Much more comfortable to wear.
Outstanding, as usual. Thanks for the info on g-shocks, even if you knocked out several gifts. 😎 I love the insights on different watches so consider ten more. Think also about giving specifics on the secondary markets. Where are we more likely to run into fakes? Who tacks on too much? Unsafe shipping?
I bought a Casioak and modified it for a specific trip I took up into the Arctic Circle in winter to see the Aurora. Needed something easy to read and would survive on the outside of my parka sleeve. And if it didn't survive, I wasn't going to break the bank. But yeah, since that, only time I wear it anymore is when I'm doing hard physical labor stuff. So not very often!
Great video, I've had a hankering for a co-axial movement for a long time so looking at Omega (the only afordable source) for a long time now. Despite how many options are available I've yet to find one I'd wear. I need at least a date and once you get rid of all of the textured dials and California dials its down to a couple of garish Aqua Terras so now I'm looking at old models.
It was €10,500. The watch is limited to 768 if my memory serves me well. I bought the watch in Paris, France and exported it so I got some of the Tax back at the airport to the tune of 12.5%. I always buy my watches that way. 😉 It is a fantastic watch with 3 crowns.
I own a few hublot (as well as other brands) and I don't really care what people are thinking of it. it fits perfectly on my wrist(42mm) and often wear it on casual day.
@@JimWestrichI read them all. There are always comments that challenge my thinking and call me out on my wilder takes. Keeps me honest. That - and people took the time to write. I can’t comment on them all but I can show my appreciation in a small way 😀
Fair point on the wearability factor. We buy a lot of things that just end up in a watch box. How do you feel about Mont Blanc? I guess they can be viewed as a lifestyle brand now as they have dipped their toes into quite a few different sectors now. Hope you are keeping well Mike!
As always, great analysis! Any thoughts regarding the Cartier 1904 movement? When reading up on the discontinued Cartoer drive, the 1904 movement seems to be "in house".
I disagree with your assessment of Cartier regarding them being a fashion brand. They are more of a jewelry company, and I believe that they are legitimate watch company. They have created some of the most iconic pieces of jewelry and watches. It's worth noting that Louis Cartier was a watch maker.
Fair enough. For me the starting point for jewellery and fashion is the same. Aesthetics first. Quality second. The technical aspect to watchmaking is something neither inherently have a skill at. Some can though - Cartier, Bulgari sometimes, Hermes on occasion. I do however believe you need to be more "vigilant" when buying from a non watchmaker 😀
@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I see your point in a way. For me, when I think of fashion, I think of things that are here today, gone tomorrow. But, some companies design things that transcend fashion trends. Cartier, Van Cleef, Rolex, Omega all have design watches or jewelry that have become iconic and will always be cool regardless of fashion trends. I enjoy your content.
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatchthen why do brands decorate generic movements? Jewels are what watches would like to be investment wise, and even in fashion you have haute couture, the maximum expression of creativity and craftsmanship with pieces that hold or become more valuable in time. I'm also not sure about calling Cartier a fashion brand, but I have been thinking what to call it and I still don't have the answer.
Excellent video Mike . A pleasure to watch. It's also nice to hear "Patek" pronounced correctly. I despise how Americans pronounce it. Sounds like a burger patty.🍔 As for the G-Shock, I have one, a GWG-2000, solar, with compass and very accurate barometer that is a special usage watch for me as mountaineering is my main leisure activity and it is a beast that has survived the most extreme conditions. So, it's a once a fortnight watch for me in spring and summer and sits in the box during the winter.
I collect Casios. The Gshocks can be a little pricey, but I find they’re good watches and at las count I’ve got a little over a hundred. I just really like them , especially the automatic time adjust models.
Peacocking with a flamingo 🦩 shirt hahaha … I can relate to everything you talk about! And as always, agreeing and learning heaps! Thanks for a great video once again.
Long lugs….. Yes it usually turns me off a watch. As a woman size matters (🤦🏻♀️). So I like a nice dial. Why would I waste 2-3mm of diameter for long lugs. Nomos is very nice but the case back is better looking than the dial. I love to wear a 38-40mm watch with a beautiful dial. Long lugs make it unwearable. Great video!
More no nonsense perspectives. 👏 I enjoy GER clean designs but Nomos should get marked down for only offering small seconds. The Metro 41 neomatik would be an easy buy with a traditional seconds hand.
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I'm not sure about that! 😂 Just slap a few "god-tiers", "innits", "f*cks" and overall superlatives in your script! Seriously, I mean "nico style" in regards to discussing the mentionable releases of the last year.

It also helps that you’re an RSA man
Cartier succeeds because its design is so far beyond other fashion brands. The Santos is the most practical dress watch or the dressiest sports watch. And they don’t depreciate anywhere near other fashion brands.
i think women play also a huge role. very well known that cartier stands in the womens world as something a male watch enthusiast would associate with patek
I was just looking at a Cartier display in a store window yesterday. The curve on the crystal was such that whatever angle I viewed the watch from, there was a glare band on the face from the lighting. The watches also seemed a bit too large for their styling.
@@TomJones-tx7pbI have two Santos, medium and large versions. I just adore the way the curved crystal plays with the light. It may not be the best for legibility, but it does feel like a design from a master jeweller. Never judge a watch until you’ve actually had it on your wrist!
In terms of Casio - W59 is my favourite. A step up from F91W in every way (the back light is fine in the middle of the night. At least it doesn't blind you)
You did AP and PP, but needed to close the Holy Trinity and talk about VC. As a teenager, a very nice jeweler let me try on an Overseas and it has been my grail watch ever since. It has the most beautiful bracelet in watch making history.
Howzit boet. I love your channel man. So good to hear your very objective and also subjective opinions. I'm getting my gateway drug today viz 2nd hand Invicta subby. Keep these coming. Thanks a span.
I have more than 20 watches (omega, rolex, zenith, tudor etc..) and the g shock is the one I wear the most because less risky in paris and useful for bike, tennis and sauna!
Am I correct in stating that Nomos is bauhaus? I am referring to the simplicity such as seen in architecture and not the playfulness in paintings. PS Still remember my flamingo pink short sleeve button down from 1988. Looked great with my dark tan.
The only channel now that a video that's 29 minutes long feels too short. Keep up the great work mate!

Thank a ton - I try to add a different perspective. I'm happiest when I succeed 😀😀
Love all your episodes. Most insightful watch (at least watch brand) talk ever.
Thank you kindly 😀
Appreciate your straightforward point of views about these pieces without any fanfare👍
Cheers, thanks 😀
I can do better with a private sale but the risk is too high.
would have loved to see A.Lange & Sohne in here. Maybe 'even more 10 watch brands rated'
great video btw, recently subscribed!
Lol. An addiction if I ever saw one 😀
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch lol. I agree
Breitling B01 was their first in-house calibre and highly accurate within METAS standards. It is used in their Chronomat and Navitimer. I think they deserve a worthy mention as far as quality goes.
I love your channel, Mike. Really really appreciate the refreshing takes
Luv how Casio’s so much fun… just bought a $30 53mm fishing watch that puts fish on the screen if it reckons there’s fish around!!! 🐠👍🤣
I gotta know this model!!!🤣🤣🤣
@@eternalmemri Casio WS-1200H-2AV 👍😊
Another fantastic video! So informative and entertaining. BTW, I do find myself wearing my solar bluetooth G-Shock several times per week, although it's almost never the first watch I put on in the morning. I often swap it in as my beater during any activity where I could easily damage a watch, e.g., sports, outdoor chores. I'm not surprised that Nico doesn't wear his during videos, I probably wouldn't either in his place, but that doesn't necessarily indicate he never wears it.
Good to hear there are people that use their g-shocks 😀
Thinking with strong fact based judgement…nice work Mike…very enjoyable and clever analysis.
Happy Saturday, Michael! Really appreciate the mix of marketing/ brand story/ brand vision, quality, and aesthetic observations that you bring to the videos. This one hit all the high points. These are fantastic explainers or conversation starters, depending on where one is in the hobby (obsession?).
Thank you.
Very kind of you - Glad you found it worthy of watching .😀
Informative, balanced, and intelligent. Can't ask for more than that.
Every time I try on a Hublot I love the way it looks on my wrist! I don't want to but I do.
This has to be the best watch channel on YT - fantastic Mike. Can you do similar on Micro brands?
Nice editing. You are getting much better. Great video as always
Thank you very much, I try to improve from video to video 😀
Nice indeed! Thanks! Suggestions for the next one: Tag Heuer, Yema, Doxa, O&W, Squale, March LA.B, Laco, Oris, Glashütte original, etc.
I think Nomos and Glashütte should collaborate and do special fun colors of the Sea Q in particular I think a magenta Sea Q would really rock the boat 🚤
as usual the best watch content on youtube.
Glad you think so! 😀
I look forward to your videos so much! They are so informative, and your takes have thoughtful arguments to back them up.
That was a real good coffee break. Thanks. Now back to work.
Take all the time you need 😂😂
Thank you, top content as usual and your take on Nomos is interesting. In the next video, I would love to hear your perspective on Baume & Mercier and Rado
I thought oh boy here we go. Another watch RUclips channel. You have new subscriber.
Lol... My apologies 😂😂😂
Keep up the good work! The road to 100k subscribers I think will be short for you my friend.
Who knows? I'm just enjoying the ride. Thanks for the praise 😀😀
Thanks - Trying to improve things all the time. This time it was the filmset 😀😀
I'll never forget Archie Luxury's take on Cartier....he watched a watch maker remove the back from his Cartier, and saw a plastic movement holder inside. Plastic ! He said....to quote.."I got rid of it, The f***ing thing gave me the sh*ts" 😂
classic arch
Love him or hate him....he knows way more about horology than most of these hipster wannabees on youtube.....
Nice one Arch. Great vid.
@@thelifeofjools8384Except it's only limited to a few brands .

G-Shocks are great for those moments when I don't want to risk scratching up my precious watches. So at work and on the beach, there is always one on my wrist.
Rolex is for when I don't want to scratch my precious G-Shocks.
@@tudorserban111 Hard to scratch the resin ones. Mine has been through a lot of abuse over the years. But still look good.
@@jaysterling26 Still.... watching Greg Anderson's video's is a lot of fun for me. Even though I'm not a collector.
I really like my JLC Memovox Tribute to Polaris 1968 which I bought in 2008 at release. I think it was excellent value for an alarm watch 😉
How much was a watch like this in 2008? The Memovox Models are so expensive now
It was €10,500. The watch is limited to 768 if my memory serves me well. I bought the watch in Paris, France and exported it so I got some of the Tax back at the airport to the tune of 12.5%. I always buy my watches that way. 😉 It is a fantastic watch with 3 crowns.
Serious my fav watch channel! So informative!!!! “One watch buying men” HAHAHAHA love it
I own a few hublot (as well as other brands) and I don't really care what people are thinking of it. it fits perfectly on my wrist(42mm) and often wear it on casual day.
Cartier was my first fine watch gifted me by my wife 21 years ago. Still on my wrist.
good gift 😃
Great information. Loving your new lighting set-up.
Thanks. Glad to hear it 😃
I see Cartier as a Jeweler💍
Cartier is a jeweller
Absolutely! They’re not a fashion brand at all. Fashion is all about following current trends so it’s disposable. Cartier produced timeless jewellery
Fair enough. Don't disagree, but I do still see a fashion-esque component to them... 😀Thanks for sharing (and pushing back) 👍👍
In case of any other youtuber, I had skipped the brands I don't care about .. Great vid! Thx
Happy to hear that 😀
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch also, glad you still despite rising numbers take the time to go through all the comments
That patek phillipe gold coloured watch was exquisite.
If i win powerball and im allowed to buy 1 ..count me in.
As always, great analysis! Any thoughts regarding the Cartier 1904 movement? When reading up on the discontinued Cartoer drive, the 1904 movement seems to be "in house".
Cartier does do in house movements. Not exclusively but they do have some pretty good movements 😀
They are legit for sure, but they are jewellery first and watch second.
Great video. Perfect lighting and audio. Editing is great too.
Thanks - Tried to upgrade a little this time. LEarning while doing 😀😀
I found this perspective, very refreshing and interesting. Thank you
You are welcome. Thanks for sharing 😀
42 days since last watch purchase … do share!!
Pelagos FXD. Revealed in an earlier video 😀

Dark emperor? Lol 😂😂 I hope not 😂😂😂
Wow, another great job of education and truth!! Thank you well done again!!
thanks to you to 😀
Long lugs…..
Yeah - I know the long lugs thing is easy for me to say. A 42mm nomos club wears well on my wrist, so I have much more leeway
Thanks as always 😀😀
More no nonsense perspectives. 👏
I enjoy GER clean designs but Nomos should get marked down for only offering small seconds. The Metro 41 neomatik would be an easy buy with a traditional seconds hand.
Thank you for educating us! I love learning here.
Great video! Would love to see some Nico-style watch ranking (rating the last year of releases) on a yearly basis.
Nico style is going to be impossible. We have very different energies 😂
@@Mike.thiswatchthatwatch I'm not sure about that! 😂 Just slap a few "god-tiers", "innits", "f*cks" and overall superlatives in your script!

Cartier succeeds because its design is so far beyond other fashion brands. The Santos is the most practical dress watch or the dressiest sports watch. And they don’t depreciate anywhere near other fashion brands.
I agree. (And saving up for a Santos myself.) 🙂
i think women play also a huge role. very well known that cartier stands in the womens world as something a male watch enthusiast would associate with patek
I was just looking at a Cartier display in a store window yesterday. The curve on the crystal was such that whatever angle I viewed the watch from, there was a glare band on the face from the lighting. The watches also seemed a bit too large for their styling.
Godtier analysis and presentation. Pick 10 more when you have time please.
@@TomJones-tx7pbI have two Santos, medium and large versions. I just adore the way the curved crystal plays with the light. It may not be the best for legibility, but it does feel like a design from a master jeweller. Never judge a watch until you’ve actually had it on your wrist!
Great Work as always! Would love to see a deep dive about Sinn sometime.

I just went on an Omega FB page and made the statement that Omega has too many variations of their watches 😆
I feel the same way.
I have more than 20 watches (omega, rolex, zenith, tudor etc..) and the g shock is the one I wear the most because less risky in paris and useful for bike, tennis and sauna!
Thanks for sharing 😀
Am I correct in stating that Nomos is bauhaus? I am referring to the simplicity such as seen in architecture and not the playfulness in paintings.
PS Still remember my flamingo pink short sleeve button down from 1988. Looked great with my dark tan.
Yes, you are correct 😀
My favorite is the Omega Seamaster 300 blue dial sedna gold.
