    What I actually enjoy about watching you clean is that you don't end up with a perfect spotless showhome afterwards. It's not about cleaning everything within an inch of it's life. It's about reclaiming the space and making it calm and habitable for the homeowner. If they lived in the before clean, then the after clean to them is immaculate and amazing and the best. They won't care about the odd smudge, a reorganised cupboard or the lack of a vacuumed sofa! This was a wonderful transformation Barbie be proud of yourself!

    One good piece of advice I heard: when you look at a huge mess it gets overwhelming and seems impossible. So people stop. The advice was to pick a small area like a table top and to just do that. Then pick another area nearby and do that. Keep focusing on just a small area and then do the next small area. In that way, you can finish a whole room without being overwhelmed.
    Another good idea is to just pick up all, ALL, the trash, bottles, cans in all the rooms first. Take all those bags out of the rooms and then start in the next goal/layer. That would make organizing easier.😢 Doing step by step, not even every day or all day would make it possible for some to clean out their own place.

      This is great advice. I get overwhelmed and have to stop and focus on one task one area etc. And give myself permission for that to be the only thing I do that day and be proud that I made a move in the right direction. Slowly it gets better and often inspires more

      @Pammellam Год назад +6

      @@stephaniec0625 And once you get to a good place with the clearing out, the next thing is to keep it up. _Upkeep_ has to be scheduled too. Upkeep is a daily task, but by bit.
      I suppose there are garbage collection days in your area. Set your upkeep activities to meet those days. So the day before bottle/can pick up day (for example), I get all the empty bottles/cans ready to be put out the next day. The same goes for all trash. I never let it collect. So that even if I don’t vacuum every day, just keeping the trash in check and out into the garbage bags and then into the garbage collection area will goes along way to making me feel better about what I am doing.
      Also, dishes. I never go to bed without doing all the dishes, pots and pans, plates, cups, etc. I wipe and dry the counters. Un-needed food items are put back in place. You would be surprised at how easy it is for things to pile up if they are never put back into their place. Leaving just one thing out every day will make a pile of unneeded items on my counters within just a few days Since I air dry the dishes, the next morning while I am boiling water for my coffee, I put all the dishes away 100%. You would be surprised at the fact that all of the dishes and pots and pans can indeed be put away in just a few minutes while your water is boiling. So no standing around waiting for the water to boil. Put the dishes away! Then you have the whole kitchen all nice and clean ready for that days activities.
      Refrigerator: I check my refrigerator and the food in it every couple of days or at least once a week for anything that needs to be used up or has perhaps gotten a little bad. I always have in mind what I want to make out of leftover food. And I try to eat it up at lunchtime. If I forget and don’t use it and it starts to go a little bad, I get rid of it right away. Out it goes into the trash, the bowl or plate it was in gets washed!
      I wash my clothes twice a week and put them away immediately once dried.
      So please don’t give up, do your clearing out bit by bit and then make an upkeep schedule and keep to it. You can do it!

    This is wonderful, Barbie! I enjoy the hoarding clean up and the longer length video this time is a plus in my opinion. I understand about not being able to do the laundry due to circumstances and resources... Also- a comment about recycling: when there is mouse infestation, the droppings and urine carry virus potential and should not be recycled as it is a danger to the people who would process these contaminated items. You did perfectly right in putting it in the garbage! Same goes for the clothing: know the owner wanted you to save it all for her to sort through. She may not realize that, exposed to the mouse population, almost all is ready-to-trash. I know you didn't make that decision and are bound to respect what you are specifically asked if it is within your power to comply... You are doing great! I especially appreciated your explanation of what it takes for a person to really be of help to you on-site. Omg yes. For the last 6 months I’ve had big brothers and sisters come pick up 10-15 contractor trash bags with clothes 3 times. Most are new. With tags! Plus I have drove to ny city and literally handed out clothes to the homeless people on the street that live cleaner than these people in these apartments. It’s the landlord’s fault. But again, they don’t care because the state pays them. It’s sad. Even sadder when you see a homeless veteran, or family with kids, walking around with their carts and.boxes. At night even where they sleep outside they keep clean. Ny city needs to step up their act. I hate saying I live in NY!! And what about the people that live outside the city in a nice house and are depressed, mental illness or dealing with life threatening cancer or something else and they homes look not as bad but bad. Nobody helps them!!!

    I’m inspired! I’ve been binge watching while I clean at my own home! I’ve been mopping and scrubbing ! I cleared out stuff and got together a box of donations so far! When my front door is opened it looks decent! Not perfect! I’m not ashamed for someone to visit even though we aren’t done!
    I found the curtains for the living room! I found my old drill! I have an autistic ten year old so when something is out of place we search his room and the backyard! I also found the stuff that hadn’t been put where it belonged in the yard! I had bought a sprayer for my hose and it was still wrapped up!
    Slowly but surely the house is coming together! I’ve gotten so much done including scrubbing my microwave! It’s pristine and I wiped down the stove which I did a few days ago! It’s nice and shiny!
    I’ve been cleaning daily for four to seven hours a day! I just want my house to be clean with no weird smells or stuff everywhere! It’s getting there!
    I’ve even been able to set up a study area for my youngest!

    No matter how committed we are to recycling, reusing and being "green" in our approach, when things reach this state the priority HAS to be removing clutter and cleaning up the unhealthy conditions as fast as possible. I really like the music! And this video was the length it needed to be. How I wish we had a program that could help people in these circumstances, some way to get them back on track and then continue to support them, treat health issues, and enable them to manage these issues on an ongoing basis. Meanwhile we have Barbie, a force of nature who is making the world a better place one home at a time.
