Dr John I do believe we are hearing those low down dirty bucket blues in aces. Nothing but top shelf right here and loving every note every second. What a gift for the soul.
Yea i think not playing gibsons in ....general was a mistake....As great as th music he made with the strat is.....If you notice when he plays the 335 or les paul something different comes out of him.....He goes into killer mode....
Mac lived around the corner from me in the east village and one day I saw a limo pull up across from where I was lunching in Tompkins Sq park. He needed help with his luggage.I helped him.I have not forgotten it.RIP Mack Rebinack.
Oh, me too! Me, too! Where did the video go of Doc John playing "Such a Night" with Clapton and the orchestra on The Jools Holland Show? I've searched and searched for it and I can't find it anywhere!
Clapton - just shows the power of marketing . An ordinary player- self confessed fascist - sooner he is wiped from youtube the better, Sorry don't mean a thing - and you don't play with any real soul any way. Most over rated human being ever.

The comments are all over the place seems like you either love this duo or hate them. Personally I think they played great together. Just recently found a cassette I made of this off the TV back in 1996 and was very glad to find this video on YT. Only wish the whole concert was available but it doesn’t to seem to be around anywhere.
Two of my fav. musicians, especially the good Dr, but I can't help thinking there is something missing. Could it be that those mysterious and impossible to define New Orleans second line rhythms are missing here. Just as we know when a band swings or a musician plays with soul, I bet there isn't single person on this old Earth who can describe or define either, yet we know when it ain't there!

Eric must have stopped at Starbucks- he's making Dr. John move too fast and aggressively (not his normal style). I love Eric, but this just didn't work for both of them, together- (for Eric, alone- it worked just fine).
This performance was meant to be cut up into music videos. The format didn't give them time to stretch out. (This is the fastest Layla I've ever heard, too.) I think they did fine. And I think there's plenty of Dr. John in it; he drove the band throughout the set.
Absolutely terrible. I respect both of these men. It sounds as if Eric is in the wrong key. His guitar riffs added nothing to these compositions. In fact his guitar worked against Dr. John’s great piano work. It was painful to listen to.
yeah, and he's playing mostly boilerplate riffs. Hell, I can play those same pentatonic runs, tho not with the same great tone! Still, he's a little boring here
In my humble opinion, an embarrasment for Eric, who, at least in the first selection, kept playing the very same, instantly recognizable Clapton-licks over and over again. Maybe he was preoccupied that evening with memories of the great baby drop.
Tom Benghauser , nice guy you are. Don't be jealous because EC is the most respected, imitated and revered guitar player and musician of his generation. Along the way EC has aqueierd tremendous fame, wealth, happiness and a career most would die for! You on the other hand are a nobody, who has accomplished nothing but the ability to be a jealous no talent who critiques people with more talent and ability!
Seems obvious that that poor baby was in the wrong place at the right time....Babies at that age should be handcuffed to their cots, and not allowed to scramble all over the place......
RIP Dr John (November 20, 1941 - June 6, 2019)
Rest in Love Dr. John. 🥰

His time in Cream and everything he did in the 90's was my favorite of all his work.
St James Infimary! Amazing.

Clapton is a beast when he plays Gibsons something aggressive comes out of him...love dr, johns voice! and piano playing
The very best guitar that Eric ever owned.

A different twist on some Classics. St. James is really sweet.
Sweet, sweet all that's left for us alive.
Loving Eric's Red Gibson hollow body guitar. Nice ripping pickups.
Happy Trails Mac. You will be missed.
He was a jolly good boogie piano player, as a matter of fact
Still trying to wrap my head around EC in the 90's playing a Gibson ES. i get it, but still...it's Clapton. 🤯
Great music!

Think of how great this would have been if Clapton had stayed home.
Yeah you rite…love from Nola ✌🏻🎶❤️⚜️🇳🇴
Where's Nick McCabe?
Think Eric should have just been playing rhythm fills in Right Place Wrong Time
Mc Fly guitar!
Kind of a shame EC is blowing a bit much over the verses in the way of the vocal. You can see Dr. is a little bugged.
Agree with Noah, but top shelf nevertheless.
He totally looks like Hugh Laurie lol xD .
5:48 Isn't Clapton out of tune here?
Nope.
slowhand aint no swamp rocking groover,, dunno if he has the rite feel for this cat,,
leave the dr. for that!
Guitar done well bot not needed. Good enough.

Clapton kann nur mit sich selbst spielen. Bei den richtig großen Jungs eher nicht.
