I knew Johnny and Edgar when I was a teenage girl. I was fascinated by them, I thought they were frost giants. It made John laugh..He was such a sweet guy. I miss him, but Edgar is still with us. I loved them both, they were just so special...
I met Johnny in the eighties, I was about 11-12 years old. My dad used to go down to a bar/grill on the lake. Townes van zany, Blaze floret, Calvin Russell, they would all sit around and jam. Nobody was there. I guess it was their hideaway. That’s when I first heard the blues, and have been in love with it ever since. Being young, I had no idea that I was sitting in on legends. But Johnny winter was different, he was nothing but rock n roll. After the gig was up I would water ski home
This was recorded on Nov 23, 1983 at CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario Canada for an episode of the legendary "In Session" series. I was fortunate to be the recording engineer for the series. Johnny and Dr. John were great to work with that day. Johnny actually went out for lunch with the crew. Told some great road stories about playing the bars in Texas as a teenager.
I envy you! They were living legends. What a great honour for any engineer, to record b lues royalty. I live in Burlington ON, have played in the same studio. Been playing bass 43 years

In my humble opinion Mr. Winter was an interpreter of the blues like no other “white” guitarist. The man respected the music and always gave credit to the original artists if he was playing a cover. The emotion he got out of his instrument was unreal. Plus his Texas drawl singing was great.
Lucky to have seen Johnny several times but last time here in N Calif 2012. He was pretty sick but his hands still moved like lightning. 600 person club played for about 1.5 hrs and needless to say......The Man. 🎸🎸

They both could have been superstars but it wasn't what they wanted. I saw Johnny about 30 times. Met him shortly before he passed.
As far as I am concerned, Johnny Winter is Still Alive and Well. Always groovin.
It should be mandatory for every bar to play this kind of music every Friday and Saturday night...
I totally agree with you Mick !!
That's Right
well. Every other bar. Maybe every third. Gotta leave room for other styles too. It's all good.
Agreed. But it's mostly that horrible DJ "music" lately.
See Greg Allman I’m no angel.
It amazes me how these guys don't make any mistakes, its record quality playing all the time.
I KNEW johnny HAD PASSED BUT HAS DR.JOHN PASSED ALSO?

Muddy Waters called Johnny Winter his "lost son." What an honor.
It's true, Johnny revived the Mud in the closing years of his career. Hence the Hard Again LP!

His “ lost son”.
I wonder what his real son thought of that.
To the memory of James Booker, Johnny Winter, and Mac Rebennack.
