I knew Johnny and Edgar when I was a teenage girl. I was fascinated by them, I thought they were frost giants. It made John laugh..He was such a sweet guy. I miss him, but Edgar is still with us. I loved them both, they were just so special...
Awwww that is so cool - thank you for sharing your special personal memories of our musical heroes. ☮️💟
I met Johnny in the eighties, I was about 11-12 years old. My dad used to go down to a bar/grill on the lake. Townes van zany, Blaze floret, Calvin Russell, they would all sit around and jam. Nobody was there. I guess it was their hideaway. That’s when I first heard the blues, and have been in love with it ever since. Being young, I had no idea that I was sitting in on legends. But Johnny winter was different, he was nothing but rock n roll. After the gig was up I would water ski home
YES YES
@@TexasBurningFlower what a great memory.
Sure
Do miss him.
This was recorded on Nov 23, 1983 at CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario Canada for an episode of the legendary "In Session" series. I was fortunate to be the recording engineer for the series. Johnny and Dr. John were great to work with that day. Johnny actually went out for lunch with the crew. Told some great road stories about playing the bars in Texas as a teenager.
Lucky bastard 👍
Was that a glass of milk on Dr. John's piano?
@@lasparks6804 More like OJ .
Lucky you. A great memory to have. I lived in New Orleans and saw Dr.John twice.
I envy you! They were living legends. What a great honour for any engineer, to record b lues royalty. I live in Burlington ON, have played in the same studio. Been playing bass 43 years
Who is still listening and enjoying this video today? Two brilliant musicians, checking their egos at the door, and just jamming sweet music. Doesn't get better than this. Sadly today, RUclips and TikTok has sadly replaced this experience.
Me
This is just Awesome 🤩! Just found this by scrolling through RUclips videos! July 2024 Rest In Peace ☮️ Gentlemen! Hope you’re jamming together up there in Heaven ❤
Mwah
As far as I am concerned, Johnny Winter is Still Alive and Well. Always groovin.
Two well-deserving Grammy winners who were never "pop" enough to get the mainstream recognition they deserved...but who are LEGENDS within every genre they touched!
They both could have been superstars but it wasn't what they wanted. I saw Johnny about 30 times. Met him shortly before he passed.
Muddy Waters called Johnny Winter his "lost son." What an honor.
It's true, Johnny revived the Mud in the closing years of his career. Hence the Hard Again LP!
THAT'S RIGHT!!!!
Awww, I like that!
His “ lost son”.
I wonder what his real son thought of that.
It should be mandatory for every bar to play this kind of music every Friday and Saturday night...
I totally agree with you Mick !!
That's Right
well. Every other bar. Maybe every third. Gotta leave room for other styles too. It's all good.
Agreed. But it's mostly that horrible DJ "music" lately.
See Greg Allman I’m no angel.
It amazes me how these guys don't make any mistakes, its record quality playing all the time.
I KNEW johnny HAD PASSED BUT HAS DR.JOHN PASSED ALSO?
👍 And make it look so effortless!
That's What Truly Great Musicians Do... Just Total Awesomeness ☺☺😎👊💯
How the real deals do it.
alas, yes, 2019 @@whiskeyrun4996
At the ripe old age of 71, all I can do is encourage you youngsters to enjoy this music. Long may it live!
Saw Johnny in 1977 in Norfolk, VA. Strutting around bareback with his guitar on stage. Great musician, joyful show
There’s no stadium concert to match this! Small venue, hot jams! Absolutely love it!
Johnny Winter was one of the best blues vocalists ever. And, y'know, the guitar thing.
I only saw Doctor John a couple times. I never missed a
Johnny Winter show saw him over 20 times. Now they are
rocking in heaven together. RIP both legends!
To the memory of James Booker, Johnny Winter, and Mac Rebennack.
Booker was a genius
This here's the holy grail. Loved the dedication to James Booker followed by the ripping Bookeresque solo in "Such a Night". Johnny and Mac together don't get no better!
Johnny Winter isn't dead. He will live forever.
SIXPACFISH STILL ALIVE AND WELL!
We are losing the greatest generation of rock & roll musicians. 😭
Damn right
@@shannonrowan5065 One of my favorite all time
"...every now and then is kinda hard to tell I'm still alive and well"
Ed King I found it in a record store shortly after his passing, ad I just had to pick it up. “Everyone I thought was cool is six feet underground”. 😭😭😭
This is the way real music was made and lasts forever!!!!!
Wow!! Thank you so much for this. How I miss the good doctor. Saw him many times and met him once. He can never be replaced. This is pure gold.
WALK ON GUILDED SPLINTERS !!!!!!!!
@@gregscheyd4131 Gris gris gumbo ya ya..........
Man, this is just too cool. Just two class acts complementing each other as best as two people could. No bad notes; just groovin' and cruisin'.
This is awesome I could listen to this all day
These are men who are alive in my heart and mind until the day I die.
well said
Johnny loved that Gibson Firebird. He said it was the coolest guitar he'd ever seen.
It's a cross between a brickhouse a piano and a geetar. Kind of a tele on steroids. 😎 to cool.
I was 29 years old when this came out I'm 64 years old sounds better now
Terry Lusk I’m guessing from the lack of great musicians that has occurred since you were 29. Only good ones are gone
"You lie too much/you lie with every man in town" is straight savage even by today's standards, good lord
Pure gold from two Legends we won't see the likes of again. Thank you Johnny, thank you Mac. Heaven has one helluva band.
Oh yeah
Purely and simply I agree they transcend both
Dude, why does everyone think Dr. John is dead?
cause he Is
so is Johnny
They all are gone but not forgotten. Keep on playing their records and their message, soul and music will be heard all over our planet Mother Earth forever.
well said
Lovely comment ❤
Music is to b shared with the whole world"" and Johnny winter's was one of the best blues rockn players there was """ that's that".
What a duo I know there are a million of good guitar players but to me, Johnny winter is my favorite. and love Dr. John's voice and Piano...
First and foremost, I’d like to thank you Rev. Bob for what you do for not only music but the musicians as well! I found your posts when looking for music to practice and am a intermediate Blues player. I have lived in both Texas and Louisiana and soaked up as much as I could. You can’t go to either state without immersing yourself in both of these performers and their music. They were The Elite. I will always regret not seeing either of them live but, with people like Rev Bob, they can be enjoyed forever! Thanks again!
RIP Dr. John we lost him too, this year. 2019
Yepp its up to young ppl to keep the blues alive
Ya, I’m old, but I can’t wait to get to heaven to hear the blues done right. I’m sure these guys will be in the band.
The blue 'sky welcomes you in to heaven
I’ll Be There With Ya, Friend !

I will see you guys in the front row!!!
Thank you for sharing. Pure gold. 2024 and still loving this music. ❤️🎶❤️🤩
The quality of the sound is superb! This should be required in school,so kids can learn what music really is.

Johnny and Dr. John were often in Woodstock and I am from Saugerties . Right next door. I can only say I was a lucky person to have heard both of these guys live.

And Dr. John, June 6, 2019
Pure Talent,This is the Real Music.
Joao Pinheiro.... absoluto correct!
Still alive and well.
Lucky to have seen Johnny several times but last time here in N Calif 2012. He was pretty sick but his hands still moved like lightning. 600 person club played for about 1.5 hrs and needless to say......The Man. 🎸🎸
Saw JW, I think, at Clapton's 2010 'Crossroads' concert. He looked to be very weakened and almost blind, but, Man, he had zero trouble still standing-out on that crowded stage. One-of-a-kind
My first concert at filmore west 1969 was johnny winters
Then seen dr john with santana in about 1970
We used to take the bus to the city almost every weekend to see concerts
Hey Paul, I did the same as you by taking the train from Flushing every weekend to get to The Fillmore East & see what new group was playing. I started going there in 1967 thru 1970. The first concert I ever went to was The Beatles at Shea Stadium c.1965 and the it was the Fillmore. I saw Johnny in 1967 at Hofstra University Sheba he brought his brother, Edgar up to join him. One of my favorite collaborations was Johnny & Rick Derringer...Wow. Two dueling blues rock guitarists going at it which was truly amazing. At 70, I look at the shit that is being played today and thank God I got to see just about every band, group & musician from the mid 60’s on. I wen to Woodstock also and that was another great experience in my life along with seeing Jimi play more than 2 dozen times up until 2 weeks before he died. (Randall’s Island, 8/70). Rock on, brother...
@@dolphe.chiarino6142 i really miss those days
Doesnt get much better than these two great blues guys❤
2 doctors of Badassology in the house tonight!

Two legends that never really got the recognition that they deserve. I have signed poster from both of them hanging in my house. RIP and rock on.
Met Johnny in Katonah, N.Y. 1972. He was having his purple motor home worked on behind the gas where I worked at 17.
Sometimes you bang two rocks together and get a spark or two. Bang these two rocks together and you get lightning......
My friend and I say Johnny in 1995 in Dallas tx we think Johnny is the best
11y/o eating PINTO BEAN & COLE SLAW sandwiches in a Blues Guitar playing few years older feller cross the streets Basement. Turned me on to the Blues. Johnny Winter and John Mayall's Blues Breaker in 1969. Been listening to Johnny ever since. Never ever saw this. Good golly Mr Molly tanks fer sharing such a GEM Ben PEACE MAN
John Mayall, the Godfather of British Blues (not to mention, the man who brought Eric Clapton to the fore...), NEEDS to be inducted into the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame asap! Mayall continues to tour in his mid-'80's, his great singing voice still intact.
Amen !
I can still see on stage I saw him so many times I saw him In DC. On stage with BB Kung and muddy waters oh my god it was a life changing event for me
I can relate. ☮️
Two of the VERY best. A treat to see them together here.
Add Etta James t that she was the greatest
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful video 🌼
I miss Dr. John...had the honor of working his shows alongside his nephew Gary Druilet who himself is a PHENOMENAL pianist...the entirely Ruebenak family are chock full of talent
Thanks Rev. Bob for posting this incredible performance
Johnny Winter thank you for the good blues music A big loss! R.I.P old boy. will miss you
Classic J Winter...... man I miss him, RIP bro
Seen Mr. Johnny Winter several times and always the best Rocking slide Blues Player ever!!!!!! 😎🎸.
Gary Daniel . Nah, like Johnnys style much better than Rory. Thought that might be you Dan
In 1968 I went out to buy my first LP (as a Xmas gift from my parents) ever, and it was one of Johnny Winter.
Then I saw him first live in 84 during a European tour with exactly this line up here, it was incredible to see Dr. John so happy and relaxed at that time ...
Once you work in the music industry..you never, ever want to leave!
Legends!!! RIP! Love this ❤️🎶
R.I.P Dr John and Johnny Winter
Dr John’s spirit may live, but his body is dead.
Man…. I miss Mac.
What can one say? Two geniuses from the same area of the country who knew each other for many years just jamming and having a ball. No doubt they're playing in the heavenly choir right now. How I miss them. I had the pleasure of seeing them live many times in a variety of cities and decades.
I could listen to these guys ALL.DAY!!
Now I know why I came back to this song 🎶💃🎸🎙💞
The sweet sounds of Dr. J and Sweet Poppa John... does it get any better
Gone, but not forgotten: Some have gone on to bigger and better things, others have joined their ancestors. They gave us the gift of their time and talent, and for that we are grateful.
Thank you Jon Paris I know I spelled that wrong seen you many times with Johnny & had numerous conversations with you God bless you are great !!! And and will always be part of History who made the blues happen to move ahead 2 what it is today with the help of Johnny thank you.
First concert I ever saw was Johnny in Columbus , and I think it was "74. I was rock all the way and Johnny turned me on to the blues. Thank you and R.I P.
Luv em both miss em saw both multiple times nuff said God Bless both for embracing the Blues America’s gift to the world
Right on the money! Never did see Dr, John, but I was lucky enough to see Johnny three times and was able to get some great pictures to keep the memories alive. First time I saw him was in Danville Va,. there were fewer than 30 people in the audience...
I’m so glad I got to see Johnny Winter live , if only once. But that was a show I’ll cherish forever!! Unfortunately I never got to see Dr.John though. RIP-John and Johnny ❤️☮️❤️
Two legends that I was blessed to see live, never together like this but separately. Part of the soundtrack of my life💜💚💛
This is the Best Damm Music there is!.... Fabulous Session!! I Love You Johnny!🎸❤ Rock in ☮ 💔
In my humble opinion Mr. Winter was an interpreter of the blues like no other “white” guitarist. The man respected the music and always gave credit to the original artists if he was playing a cover. The emotion he got out of his instrument was unreal. Plus his Texas drawl singing was great.
Dr John has my favorite voice ever.
Merci! Une si belle musique, le blues, deux virtuoses qui jouent ensemble pour nous balader
dans des mondes auditifs si parfaits. Merveilleux !
oh yeah thank for the best session for the leggendary musicians is a very special session Johnny in my heart

I’m from Beaumont, grew up in Silsbee. Mama’s family is from Louisiana. This my musical genetic crossroads
These In Session series are awesome, and shout out to audio engineer, Doug McClement , excellent sound !
Legends never to be seen again but they left us this pure magic from the deep deep soul, it brought tears to my eyes. I have seen both of them . Saw Johnny Winter in Graham Central station in Arizona and he signed my Gibson Firebird. He as always put on an amazing concert. RIP both of you your music will never die.
Wow...great musician's jamming!
It's sounds good, Johnny winter and Dr Jon. Thanks for your music that is to forever.
Two all-time greats now jammin' in rock n roll heaven. RIP
Wow!!! Thank God 4 RUclips, these r 2 of the best musicans in their prime. Excellent sound!!
Love Stevie but John Dawson Winter was and will forever be THE standard for Texas Guitar slingers!
TEXASFENDERBENDER wow. Saw Johnny in 1975 in Madison Square garden. My second ever there. 74 was Grand Funk railroad. 2 best
At that level they all have their own style and you can't really rank them. Clapton, Bloomfield ... they were all good.
Wow, I didn't know his middle name, thank you, I do now 👍😁
John Dawson Winter III, he has an album by that name too.
c'est toujours un plaisir d'écouter Johnny Winter surtout avec dr.John
deux grands musiciens sans aucun doute Thank you so much Rev.Bob
