The speed of Johnny's guitar playing and heavy drums makes me think that this should be called 'Heavy Blues/Country/Rock'. I just discovered Johnny's music and I'm surprised that he isn't considered more of a 'Guitar God' that's more widely known. Johnny's playing is off the charts!
I love Johnny Winter! My earliest Rock and Blues guitar influence! Got to see him LIVE in St. Louis, MO after his stroke. He wailed that night with one flawless solo after the other all night! One of the best EVER!
Me and my dad used to go see Johnny whenever he came back to his hometown.... Great memories. I was amazed when I went to Baltimore and saw his name was pretty much global in the 90's. Johnny is defiantly a motivating factor here.... Thanks for posting his music.
Had no peers when playing slide guitar and I think when he went back to playing straight blues in mid seventies was when I thought he was at his best. I was fortunate enough to see him at least a half dozen times and got to see him do awesome version of the song rock and roll during which the rest of the band took a break and a single spotlight was on Johnny as he sat on a stool breaking it down and tearing it up on slide as always. RIP 🙏 👍
He came out of the womb with his hands poised and ready for the guitar. Entered next magical.mystical musical worid still clutching it. Part.of his body and soul. The.king forever no one can take his throne or crown
And I thought I'd seen alotta videos of JDW, NEVER SEEN much of this!!! MOST EXCELLENT compilation of "THE MAN"!! Can't thank you enough as Johnny is SO SO VERY UNDERATED for his craft!! Makes me SICK to hear the people they rate before him. Reminds me of the DAMN POLITICS of USA!! JOHNNY FOREVER😎
You probably have a bunch of people who don't have the ears to evaluate what they're listening to. I wouldn't sweat it. I don't believe he's underrated though. I think that people who can objectively judge what's good guitar playing give Johnny his due. He made the cover of Guitar Player mag at least once. I think that counts for more than what random people think.
Love Johnny, was lucky enough to see him in 86 or 87 . Have to say about this video, around the 8:15 mark Jumping Jack Flash the camera person must have been the drummers mom or something. You'll see what I'm talking about. Lol
The bassist plugging away while doubling on harmonica at the same time on the first song there, incredible. Some people just ARE music, or musical conduits I guess.
Great post. Unbelievable that there's an absolute legend playing and some dirtbag found a reason to toss a bottle at him. I don't blame them for walking off. I've seen it happen at many shows and never understood it.
This had me scrambling to my box of tix stubs. Found it!! April 26,1986 Keany Gym at URI..w/ George Thoroughgood ..$12 !! (students $8 ) I remember after the show we were hanging around his tour bus. Hoping to meet him. A roadie came to the door and said he's on the bus but not coming out. I asked the guy if he could get me a autograph. I handed him a $1 bill to sign. Guy goes back in ... minutes go by...more mins .. I'm thinking "there goes that $1". Bus door opens ..guy hands me my $1. Nice long full signature...legible... The length of the bill. One of my greatest little R+Roll treasures I'll have forever!!
Amazing compilation congratulations… I have a question (what is the name and date of the concert where someone in the audience throws a bottle at Johnny?) (did you know that the same thing happened to Johnny in 1980 when he went to play in Mexico ?) could only play three songs the fourth song called (stranger) someone from the audience threw a bottle at him that hit him on the microphone pole near the foot and Johnny did the same and left without saying anything!..
Thanks for the video great have been a Johnny fan for all my adult life took my son to to bishopstock festival and John was top of the bill unfortunately he could not play as he had a stroke and he came on stage and apologised for not being able to play it really upset me and my son he never played standing up again! Me and my son did see him though and he was brilliant! God bless j.d.w.
guitar slinger its the best...and serius bussines too...but raisin cain is very good , es una pena que no lleve algun musico mas y un bajista extra por lo menos para que jon paris acompañara los solos con armonica comodamente...
Criminal he isnt in the rnr hall of fame. The man played at woodstock and had a decades long career and a billion albums. How much more a dude gotta achieve? Geeze...
Saw something similar, proly around 1987, with this same band, in Seattle. Johnny was kinda at his peak. He had just played the best night I'd ever seen him play. Came back on stage for an encore, started playing Wildwood Flower. I was blown away. Never heard him play that, live or recorded. Some guy in front jumping up and down with a beer in his hand. The beer went in a slow motion arc upwards, and came down, splashed all over Johnny and guitar. He stopped, says "f you", flipped off the crowd and walked off stage, end of show. People wanted to beat that guy. That's the last time I went to see him..
No need to choose. Both were great musicians. Undoubtedly Stevie would have kept getting better if he'd lived longer but he's still one of the all time greats.
No other guitarist could play the blues like Johnny! And the slide and rock was excepțional! A master for all!
Johnny Winter was tops. I’ve listened to him since 68 into the 70’s. Phenomenal!
You’re the greatest blue guitarist ever dear Johnny ❤
We’re all so lucky to have your videos to keep you living on.
Love, ❤Vrinda
Love this man and always makes me happy. What a player!! Thank you Johnny for all the music.
Å yes Johnny was very Good
Johnny is badass ... im 66 still listening to J W
He's the white Texas blues man who stole our heart.❤
Quel guitariste !! Repose en paix Johnny winter 😢😢
Long before SRV there was Johnny Winter.
Both were and still are Guitar Masters.
SRV was like a fusion of Hendrix and Johnny
I enjoy his playing more than anyone from the era!
The speed of Johnny's guitar playing and heavy drums makes me think that this should be called 'Heavy Blues/Country/Rock'.

素晴らしい時間をありがとう
ジョニーウィンターの音楽がなければ、とりわけアリゲーターの3枚のアルバムがなければ僕はとっくにこの世にいなかったと思う
音楽と映画に触れる事で何とか生きてます

Awesome compilation, love this guy, still listen to him most daily.

Thanks for this upload. Johnny was always one of my favorite guitar slingers!

one of the baddest ever!
Every time I get at 1:13:02 I start crying. Two unforgettable artists 🥲
The things this man could do with six strings will never be done again plain and simple.
I couldn't agree more
I hadn't seen Johnny since 1970 and I had hoped to see him again. Some things are just not meant to be. Miss ya man. ❤
Jhonny THE BEST !!!!!!
The bassist plugging away while doubling on harmonica at the same time on the first song there, incredible. Some people just ARE music, or musical conduits I guess.
The bass player is Jon Paris. He played with Johnny for about 10 years.

He’s also an accomplished guitarist himself 👍🏻
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing collection, and it means so much to me you beautiful people 🌼🌿🕊

Why not SRV played
Mary had a little lamb
What can you say about Mr Winter, amazing.
There is nobody who can or could hold a candle next to JW. This includes anybody!!!! SRV isn't even in the same league.
Hell YAAAAA, Thanks
Cool 🎸❤️

Who says he can't
Sling 12 strings
I love Johnny's slow blues at 1:06:10
Gibson Firebird never sounded so good. If you want one of those things, bring a big fat check.
He gets some clarion sound out of thst guitar.
My King Tudor one!!!!
Why is Johhny not in the rock and roll hall of fame??

Am I the only one who see's SRV inspiration?
He never mentions Johnny but there’s no doubt about it

100 per cent

Sounds seriously political. Why are The Hollies in the Hall of Fame and not Johnny? I suspect he'll eventually be inducted, for whatever it's worth.
Some idiot threw a bottle 30:30 , Johnny don't need that shit !

Great...motherfucker throw a beerbottle!?!?
yep
this was in Denmark I think?
Randy jo hobs..
Jon Paris
Ever noticed how lot of good guitarists will imitate or try copy links and play like the greats. Nobody tries to copy johnny. Not possible
Exactly. Nobody can touch it

I have said enough...e. 🌙...
Bobby t Bobby turrello
I'll take Johnny over SRV any day.
I'm with Ya...
Spot on. Much better guitarist and singer. Not even close.
Got that right
No need to choose. Both were great musicians. Undoubtedly Stevie would have kept getting better if he'd lived longer but he's still one of the all time greats.
Should have been brothers! Does anyone know if they ever played together?
I loved and respected JW but lets acknowledge he was a cover band...his own twist on the covers...but a cover band nonetheless
Apparently you never heard any of his originals.
Johnny wrote and performed a lot of original tunes. Have you ever heard Still Alive and Well or Memory Pain?
