- I've had these marvelous performances by the late, great "Night Tripper" on an old VHS tape for over three decades. I found it unbelievable that there was no trace online of this particular TV appearance, probably recorded over four separate sessions. LIVE TRACKLIST:

3:35 - SUCH A NIGHT
9:32 - RIGHT PLACE WRONG TIME
13:14 - DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY WITH YOU
16:55 - TIPTINA

24:42 - WILD HONEY
28:00 - GEORGIA ON MY MIND

If you are watching this video right now 2023, I swear you’re a legend. Enjoy the greatness of dr. John!!
2024 now
Yeah
2024 now and still enjoying all of these classics from the master of the New Orleans style. Thanks for posting! What a great personality and talent Dr John was! RIP and thanks for your music.
I’m new to his music and I’m hooked - this guy is in touch with some Other stuff
This is transcendent. Dr. John is a musical shaman…
I swear that bass player sounds just like a tuba. The Dr. Is on high ground tonight. RIP Mac!
Pure New Orleans. No music like it in the world. Reaches right to your soul. Gone much too soon. God rest your soul Reb.
They call me drJohn, known as the night tripper. You know I'm the last of the best. they call me the gris gris man. Ah got my satchel of' gris gris in my hand. Daily trippin' up 'n' back down da bayou....I got medicine of every description. Folks comes from miles aroun' runnin' down my prescription. I got medicine to cure all y'all's ills. You got love trouble....ya got a bad woman ya can't control...ah got jus' the thang fer ye. A little something called 'controllin' hearts get together drops.' Gris gris gumbo ya ya.........
Splendid. If this is just a copy of an old VHS tape, ah jezz cou'nt believe mah eaz.
It takes an enormous reservoir of cool to be in the midst of all that TV technical crew, and not seem even a little tightened-up and self-conscious about doing your thing. The Doctor was on a whole 'nother level.
It blew me away when, on Somethin' You Got, on the first chorus of his piano solo, he played Melvin Lastie's trumpet solo on the song "I Know." I play that solo myself when the band I play with does "I Know."
And then Cry Me a River on the solo on Georgia on my Mind. He was the king of mixing it up
The players are excellent. Love the drummer's timing.
I can not for the life of me understand why the bass player seems not to be having fun. Even if you're sight-reading the gig, that had to be a blast, playing that music.
Probably because the drumms spoil the gig, there is no need for drumms, playing Dr john sophisticated left hand and an bass player
@@katalonien8696 Have you never been to New Orleans? Funky drummers, pianists, and sax players are their most well-know exports.
@@davidkindred7677 So true.
@@dsnodgrass4843 About the bass player: not everybody has the same expression on their face, when they enjoy stuff.
People, who think, they can read other peoples souls, is what sentences innocent people to death.
Thanks for saving this... A maestro at the peak of his powers, though they didn't diminish much over the next 30 years...
So sweet 💓
the such a night piano is so good damn
Thank you Thank you!!
This is a superb show with a stripped down group and close ups of the master’s hands doing his magic
Still mesmerizing after all these years!
Great pianist, great musician, great person!!
And a great loss to the World.
This guy brought Mardi Gras with him wherever he went!
Sometimes only the good doctor will do - and this is a great session, good from beginning to end. I first came upon the doctor in the 60s with his hippy trippy stuff (which went down well with a joint or two) but it is really his rock solid piano that I have fallen in love with (and this performance has that in spades). Thanks Eric Ranzoni
Yeah, something you got 🎉🎉🎉
Wow ! ….,…., …..?…….Just Wow!!!
Thank you sooooo much !!
Simply the best so glad i met Dr john will never forget such a night
His Music is always the best Aay Time ❤❤
This is why RUclips is awesome. Thanks so much for uploading this Eric, really great stuff that would otherwise not see the light of day!
You're welcome, it's a great pleasure to share this with all music lovers.
@@eric669 yeah, eric,Eric, so much. I've listened to this thing twice..
Just wonderful
Derek trucks and sue tedeski is another one.
What a goove on this line up Dr. John RIP.
He's like a one-man rhythm and horn section.
I live less than 5 miles from New Orleans, He is, was, and forever be a National Treasure.
Had to be 1981 heard he was to play at a Local bar and eatery. Orchard Park, N.Y. I was Correct! Stood 10 feet from Mac that evening while he performed on a 12"inch riser in front of me! Man what a show! I was so, so Happy I caught that show. Rip Mac. You are so Missed!
My favourite piano player, bloody brilliant ❤
Thank you for sharing this. It’s amazing. RIP Dr John. Thanks for the music. Devine in every way. Love New Orleans sound. ❤️🎶
Grande! Quando la Rai valeva qualcosa. Grazie!
If you don't love this, you should see a real doctor asap. THANK YOU Eric!
This is more than classical music. IT'S Dr.John. so amazing .Thanks
This is so great, thanks for posting. Miss the good doctor. Still brings so much joy.
I mean to say he’s an uptown ruler!
Great concert from a true legend great footapable and hummable tunes belisimo obrigardos and cheers
Italians, uhhh, you get the best performances from the best artists.
Egg Tooth - No, The Germans come first...
Saw him maybe 20 or so years ago at Buddy Guys Legions in Chicago. Very dark show , made you think you in the bayou swamp at 2:00 am .
thanks for sharing Dr. John live, I only heard him sing and preform right place and wrong time.
Thank you for this fantastic recording. Small correction: 20 min song title is LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULER (Let the Good Times Roll)
Yes!!! Thank you!!! 1Nation4Life

Total non New Orleans beat!! Dr john made the best of it
He was obviously a Chas and Dave fan. Gertcha!
Wow che figata! Grazie 👋
Eric thank you! What a treasure of great music by an incredible artist. First time I saw the "Night Tripper" was at the Apollo Theater in the late 70s. What great memories! Awesome upload!

Too cool 😎 ya got a shot from the good Doctor
What a loss , Dr.John was amazing
Pure genius!
Stumbled on this great set a while back.
Nice to enjoy it on his birthday (today)- thanks so much for uploading!
I saw Dr. John play with a band here in NYC at the Blue Note in early 1997, and he played "Wild Honey." I loved it, but I've been unable to find any evidence of that song even existing since then. Thanks so much for uploading this wonderful footage of one of my musical heroes, grazie mille!
its on his 1978 album City Lights ruclips.net/video/xaly7Tb6ytk/видео.html
i love that album it was the only album of his i had (on vinyl) from way back then ... i got it recntly from some place but it was indeed hard to track down on cd ... its all on her and full of great tunes

Allen Thoussaint, Profesor Longhair y Dr. John. Que más puedo pedir?
Fantastic! Thank you!
Thank You!
Thank you kindly!
Thanks Eric! Only just found this. So good!!! :)
What a treasure you've provided just in time for the anniversary of his death. Thank you!
You're very welcome Paula. You're right, I've just realised that today it's one year since the great Doctor's passing, so what a fitting tribute!

it's my great pleasure!
This is great!
Thanks so much for sharing will always regret never having had the chance to see him live, what a player!
Che perla! Grazie per averlo postato.
He was a very under rated Musician His style and professional piano playing blows Elton John Out Of The Water, R.I.P My Friend You're Music Will Live On.. Cheers New Orleans.. 2022.
Loved Dr John, lucky enough to see home live twice; but perhaps not fair to compare him with Elton John …. So different. Elton was English classically trained and wrote his own tunes from England in the 60’s … Dr John is Mr New Orleans …. Totally different background, and music 🤷♂️ Both great
Good lord, the inevitable “they were so underrated” comment. Dr. John was highly rated and well known both here and abroad (and a living legend and icon in his hometown of NO) for what, 50 years or more? There are New Orleans musicians that don’t get the credit they deserve, but Dr. John I don’t think is one of them.
Elton is no dunce on keys- the NOLA
style is quite unique, and no snap to put together expertly. Even being from there is no guarantee...
Elton couldn't play Dr John's style as there are lots of 10ths in the left hand - Elton said he can barely cover an octave. Elton was great in his genre but Mac Rebennack had a unique New Orleans style..
Heart of Music ❤️🔥
awesome!
grazie
D.O.C. : Musica e altro a denominazione d'origine controllata- RAI TV - by Renzo Arbore, Gegè Telesforo and Monica Nannini...
Saluti! Rob - UD
Rewelacja
Face it, Dr. John was spectacular.
Good find Eric,. The 6th track is actually called Laissez Le Bon Temps Roulez :)

A presto... ?!
Ciao, credo di ricordare, batterista romano conosciuto in quel lontano concerto a Villa Celimontana! Grazie ancora per il VHS e per le tue parole, all the best :)
