You gained 15 MPH in the 1/4.......That's a huge gain!!!The ET gain was good too but 60ft times are holding you back there.I would have to call that a big success.
Spinning makes your m.p.h increase.
Last year my zl1 ran a 10.49 @131mph
A week later the track prep sucked and I spun to a 10.72@136 mph.
This year my zl1 lays down 841hp vs last year 652rwhp. But, no track times yet. Hopefully in a couple weeks.
No way that is accurate. Go to the track or just sit and wonder.
Two mid-80s Lincoln rotors and two driver's side axles/drums from a Ranger. Done and done.
You really need to stop beating on my retro fox like that LOL. Love that car
Definitely needs diff and gears. I'm loving the content, and progress with it
I had a 306, flat tappet 268H Magnum Comp cams, long tubes, and a 650 Holley, I swapped from gasket matched E7 heads, to TFS twisted wedge heads, and comp rocker arms, and it really woke up on top, and pulled hard all the way to 6500.
mass air
@@hotrodray6802 it is a mass air car
In Richard Holdener's latest video he said "every part of a 5.0 is limited," and that from a guy who raced Fox bodies for years. All he means by it is that you aren't going to get the max until you have cam AND heads AND intake AND headers.
This video is pretty much my life in the late 1990’s…great times!
I forgot that the stock gear was a 2.73....Jeez is that low!
Optional was the 3.08, which I had in my '85 GT.
I put in an 8.8" rear with 3.55s and it made a HUGE difference!
I remember my 2000 Z/28 with some bolt-ons "Long tube headers, X-pipe dumped before the axle, LS6 intake, 3.73 gears, 4k stahl". Well it ran started running low low 13.2 1/4mile times at the track at the beginning of the season, after I had just came out of winter from daily driving. It should have been in the 12's Easy. I went to go clean my filter, change oil, check spark plugs, and general maint stuff. Found a dead Moth inside the intake smashed up against the MAF screen! Cleaned it all out and ran consistant low 12's and a best of 12.09@111mph. Nothing else changed. Crazy I was able to lose a full second from just a small restriction and obviously messing up the MAF sensor! Car sounded pretty much the same to. Still sounded healthy and didnt do anything funky other than run a second slower which was the only thing that was a tell tale sign!
3.55's are the perfect gear for this combo. I ran a Pro-M 77mm MAF, 65mm TB, Cobra intake (extude honed), 24lb injectors, ported iron GT40's, E303, 1.7 RRs, shorty's, o/r, 2.5" catback, and 3.55's. Best the car ran in was a 13.0 at 107.xx
IMHO, the best mod you can do to a mostly stock Fox is gears. Everything works better after that. I love how the Retro sounds now.
I heard you knocked out the cats on a stock H pipe? We did that on a 89G.T and did a back to back same day run. We went slower. Consistently slower over our best times. Apparently, it creates hallow expansion chambers and messes up back pressure. We switched to an actual off road pipe and gained it back.
The car is revving slowly. My cars were all 3.55, 3.73, or 4.11, so maybe the 2.73 is the reason. Or the lack of backflow. Also, 170 heads with a B cam is still restrictive.
Plus 1 on the gears. Mine had 2.73's OG. 3.73's gotta be the next move. Love your channel and content!!!!!!
The car will feel like it picked up 100hp as well. Them 2.73's are looooong gears.
A full second drop is impressive no doubt about that.
Gears make such a huge difference. Back in the mid 2000s when I first started modifying my 88 Thunderbird (5.0/AOD), I first converted it to a Mustang HO motor with the HO intake, HO cam, E7 heads etc. With the 2.73 gears, it ran 10.1 in the 1/8th mile. I put a 3.27 gear in the car and it ran 9.5 in the 1/8th and 14.6 in the 1/4. Gained over half a second in the 1/8th mile with a conservative gear change.
That thing sounds awesome! What a bang for a budget buck.
Speaking the truth about these builds! I really think you should put gears, intake, injectors, fuel regulator with pressure gauge (PSI set to 38) and ignition timing set at 14 degrees ignition timing onto Retro Fox. Hell maybe even shoot some nitrous or find an old school Paxton SN series supercharger. It would scoot like Papa T's foxbooty
Sounds wicked and fun to drive. That's what is so cool about the retro fox. I do love love love the way papa t's car sounds.
Awesome!! Got go gears next. With gears, intake and being able to hook you might get into the 12’s
That's actually not a bad time at all considering you spun and the gears and held ya back. I always notice the biggest difference with gears. Great video brother!!!
B cam sounds better than F in my opinion…both cars are dope!!!
That’s a big improvement in power, 88 to 103 mph.
Not bad! I can live with that as a daily driver.
Great video. I just got a new set of the 170cc heads from LMR. My 88 T-top is going through a floor fix and new subframe connectors. I can't wait to get it back on the road. Your video's are great!!
Going from 3.08 to 3.73s was impressive but no question I was most impressed with when I switched a good set of aluminum heads and as I upgraded other parts the heads gave more from each part. You are leaving power on the table from those the heads running that B303.
silver and red sounds the best to me
My 1988 GT had 2.73 gears stock… I didn’t know anything about upgrading and or modding it until about 1996 so you can imagine my surprise after 3.73’s were installed… one of my first and probably still most noticeable change in car.. now has H/C/I and Dyno tune was 341 to tire… first pull was 336, was very satisfied!
BTW I have the EGR delete plate and still retained cruise by spacing throttle mount position back to near stock location… also have a TB nitrous plate so I guess without that I wouldn’t have gotten it in correct position but it can be done… love your content!!
Gears are killin it. But im sure you already know that. More gear will mean more spin so, viscous cycle of hot rodding continues lol
Digging the retro car and that 13.82 aint to shabby!!
Good stuff brother!!!
The car with the SC sounds great other than the steering rack whine. Your car with just the the B cam sounds even better IMHO.
Heads cam 12lb boost brought me to high 11s and eventually 117 mph 1\4 mile. I think it's fair to mention I had originally built the car with mostly stock parts from a brand new 1991 Mustang but the rear was a 3.89 9inch.
Let’s see a set of gears. I think if you demonstrate incremental changes it can show a lot of people how these things all add up after time.
You rock man... 🔥 US gearheads love the content bub 🍻
Damn my man can drive 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Man, Thank you for that honesty...that dose of reality. Ive been telling people for years that you are not going to pop on a set of heads on an otherwise stock car and go out and burn the world down. Likewise with an aftermarket cam in an otherwise stock car....actually that one will slow you down a bit in most cases because you lose some bottom end in a cam only car...the only real advantage to that is the chop that you will get but that's fine for some folks that just want their car to sound more like a race car. You hit the nail on the head (no pun intended) Ive built tons of mustangs over the years and it just doesn't happen the way a lot of people think it will. Now go and put a set of heads on a car that's been converted to carb'd with a performer rpm intake and a little 600 cfm. or 650cfm carburetor then you can actually do a little something. I had a friend that wanted me to put a Vortech S-trim on his 95 gt. I had already done a Gear swap for him...Cant remember but it was a 3.55 or a 3.73 that I had replaced his factory 2.73 gear with but everything else was stock so I did it for him and it picked up a bit...actually after putting the SC on it...it felt to me like a really strong H/C/I Naturally aspirated 302 but his expectations were way out there. He was very disappointed especially after he and I raced. I had a 79 Pace car at the time that I had built that had a solid roller 347 with around 10.5:1 compression, a comp 292 cam with a 750 cfm. Demon carb etc. It dyno'd 414 rwhp on motor (it had a Sniper Nitrous kit on it but at the time I had never sprayed it) and It was a pretty bad beating that I put on him. His car made somewhere around 325 to 350hp to the tires, but I tried to tell him buy a good set of heads and a few other supporting mods and it would be a totally different car. Well it turns out that he sold the car to me LOL...a week later it put down 534 rwhp on 10lbs of boost...and needless to say he was sick. In the 1/8th mile with worn out DR's it went from running mid 8's to running high 6's at like 105 mph and that was with crappy 1.9 60 ft (5 speed car) I'm sorry this turned in to a novel but I appreciate you explaining when I have been saying for so long...that bigger isn't always better and that its not a part that makes your car faster its a combination of parts and that combo can make all the difference. Thank You Sir!
Both the cars sound good great content as always, keep it up
Thanks bud!
Retro is such a good looking car. I love that thing
Those jones mufflers sound good!!! Great video
Another great video
1st! The retro definitely needs more gear in the rear. Anything besides those 2.73,lol. She sounds good brother, those heads are a good improvement over stock in my opinion.
Mine was terrible with 273s. I went to 373 and first gear is useless , 355 would probably be better choice.
@@BruceLee-xn3nn I’ve got 3.55s and I love them
@@BruceLee-xn3nn I have 4.10 gears in mine, and yes 1st gear is worthless, lol. If I change them out they will be for 3.55 for sure.
What I always did was use a piece of brake line and hook the two hoses together instead of using a longer hose plus it's easier. Thanks for the videos!!
Yep and route it under that egr plate
Pretty solid gain for everything else being stock. Almost a whole second. But 15mph gain. Huge !
Sounds great, keep them mods going
What a great one, with some gears, intake, some tire grip, you will have have one fast as *hit Retro fox.
Love that solar wing! 👌
🫡
Love the B cam sound
So have your act together and on 🔥
Had a 88 gt back in the 90’s with 2:73’s long gears… I remember those plastic Hartman upper intakes I always wanted at that time but never got one.
🔔😎
Valve springs.... pump the cylinders up....
FOREVER we have been putting 1/4 inch rope through the spark plug holes, roll the pistons up to hold the valves....
learned it @60 yrs ago on circle track. 😁😁
3rd gear 1/4 mile passes in a manual trans, those were the good ol’ days. Haha. Some upper and lower control arms, 3.55 or 3.73 gears (and clutches), an intake manifold, and a bigger mass air and you’re well on the way to low to mid 12’s
Pretty damn good for 2.73 gears and stock Intake. My 83 GT has a roller block with E Cam, Performer RPM Intake and a Holley HP 650 mechanical secondary, 1 5/8" Long Tubes and OR X pipe with Summit 2 chamber mufflers. I was told the Heads are bone stock on the 95 roller block. I've never verified this. Also, 4.10 gears. Best is 13.3 @ 108.5 on shit street radials, zero traction. Car is very light with lots of weight reduction. 2650 no driver so that doesn't hurt. Great video, love the car, very wicked !
Great video
Any intake besides the stock one, gt40, cobra, trick flow or edelbrock with some gears will transform the car. I had huge gains when I did intake cam and heads at the same time, also did a 347 stroker which was a little low on power because of not the best matched components but a torque monster
Fun cars but the stock intake cam, exhaust and heads are all weak points and I agree to do everything if you can, headers exhaust and match everything together and get a custom tune for the most gains and drivability
I love to watch you bang those gears like it owes you money.
Love the channel, thanks for all the help. Just bought my first foxbody. Found a rust free ‘88 with T tops. Do you post LMR discount codes anymore?
Real-world data. Thank you.
That part of Mexico too much sand in the road from the peanuts lol
I agree 😂😂
That upper and lower and stock intake is choking it aswell as the 2.25in section of exhaust. 4.10 gear next? Next mods to come? Show us the correct combo!
They both sound like music to me! I just love b cams for some reason.
Both cars sound good!!
Good video brewl
Looks brutal, but that is what foxstangs are. Trying to restore my fox t-bird. Anyway keep up the excellent vids and giving some great tips for your subscribers.
Of course and love the heads brother
Brew2l how many times have you been pulled over ? Great content as always 🔥
I hope to see some gears next just to see how that compares everything else.
Damn Brew, love your stuff man, but you are awful brave holding that wheel on the lower portion….. when getting into it. Just something to think about.
Otherwise as always, good shit!
Makes me want to tinker with my 93 fox again!
Awesome, I’m thinking of doing 3.31s in my vert. I like to cruise the highway a lot. Maybe a set of gt40 3 bars and a small cam upgrade
Thats what iI have in my 86 vert...GT40, Ecam and just switched from 3.31 to a 3.73 this past weekeend.....worth the upgrade
w a 2.3/ 2.4 60ft...your main issue is launching. You are not harnessing the power that it does have. Every tenth off your 60ft will be 2 tenths in the qtr. Pull 1.9 60 ft worst case and you have a sub 13 sec street car. I'd def swap gears and control arms. Those bushing have got to be falling apart. Its ALL about setup! ( I'm loving the Teal hat also! )
Love watching you and calebs channel... you 2 have got me wanting to get back into the foxbody scene👍🏼
Same here my friend!!!
Agree! They both keep me from selling my 92 GT which I have been purchasing parts for it to look even better. It’s all stock!!!
Go for it man, it's just awesome to own a fox body.
Definitely go for it! We’d love to have you back 😎
@@BREW2LFOXBODY thanks man!! I cant wait to get back!! Taking my time with the search to find the right one. Hardest part for me is deciding what i want. Coupe, hatch, or Gt. 🤔
Sounds great 👍 can't wait till the rear swap and gears happens..... be a completely different car. Great video as always 👍 also think the spring swap video is a great idea for those new to the foxbody 🌎 God Bless
Thanks Reaper! 👌
@@BREW2LFOXBODY your very welcome
Hell Yeah!!!
I got them svo heads mine are the 58cc been decked once svo 1.6 rockers upgraded springs with a gt40 intake trickflow stage 1 cam with 308 gears and its pretty solid for what it is big improvement over stock
The results are actually quite respectable considering the combination. Nearly a full second off your ET is a big gain. A nice improvement in MPH, too. I’d do 3.73 gears next and see how it responds. More worthwhile than an intake with the stock gears I’d bet. What I also like is that this shows people that it’s okay to go ahead and throw a set of aftermarket heads on a nearly stock engine if you have them. People get in this mindset that you have to have all the things before they can start wrenching when that’s so not the case. If it’s going to take you an extra 6 months to afford an intake, injectors and MAF then why not install the heads and roller rockers now and enjoy them in the meantime! Is it ideal? No. But it’ll still make some noticeable extra power, make the car more fun to drive and most importantly help keep you enthused about the project.
Stock my 87 was mid 14s. I replaced the engine with a 98 explorer engine with the gt40ps and explorer intake, threw in a tfs1 cam and tf valve springs. Best pass on street tires with traction problems was 13.4 @106. With slicks 13.00 @105 dead hooked every pass, I gotta figure out my launch.
I also have 3.73s, underdrive pulleys, and electric fan.
Put 4:30 gears in it ...and when you go to pick up your ticket when you get done running the quarter mile the guy in the ticket booth is going to tell you to put a roll cage in it and you're welcome..
Yes sirrrrrrr!
if you put new clutches in the rear diff it might hook better just like giving you a hard time about those clutches hahaha I know you're not worried about it mad a big difference in my car but it still just spins trying to launch on the street heads, cam, intake, throttle body long tubs 3.73 and a Dyno tune would love a power adder just not in the budget.
I got everything but heads. The 11r heads are back ordered till x Mas.
More gear can help with launching. Yes, you will need to launch at a lower RPM. However, finding the edge between completely spinning and the fastest launch will be easier. I'd go 4.10s on that car, see what you can get. Then drag radials if you want more.
Changing the instant center makes a world of difference..... Especially if the car is lowered.
your pop's car sounds like my big block nova. Honestly, that wasn't a terrible gain for the retro. I think you nailed it on the head you need suspension and gears. Believe it or not I ran a 8.40 in the 1/8 mile on a stock motor that had 156K miles on it. My 60ft was 1.45 on falken street tires. All my money was in suspension (steeda 5 link and subframes) and a set of 3.73s gears. This was early 2000s and I was eating WS6 firebirds and SS camaros lunches out there if they weren't heavily modified.
Holt, FL was where the track was I used to go there a lot when I was stationed at Eglin AFB. Good Times!
Got the time slip? 1.45 sixty foot on street tires? I have a really hard time believing that one and would love to see some proof
E7te
@brew2l hey brother love the content. I have been a mustang enthusiasts for over 30 years. I was listening and with the gears being 2:73's and a 75mm tb. IMO, the tb is too large and needs more of a 65mm and the gears need at least 3:55/3:73 if not a little higher. With those 2 changes, it will feel like a you added 75 horsepower.
for mid rpm torque the smaller tb make sense, velocity+atomization stuff.
it may fall off at higher rpm but its the torque that'll spool it up quicker.
Nutty. It's fuel injection.
Would like to see the valve spring video
It’s time.!! Brew2l , Papa T, Drew … who’s the fastest quarter mile …👀😁
Back in the day I had an 88 lx. Stock 302 with a ecam and 750 holley, 2.73. It ran 14.0 at 103mph. Spinning every time. I wonder how much you gain swapping the efi and go carb.
Man that's sweet.
Not bad for a 2.73!!!
Needs bigger tires on back with more sidewall. In your case you needs rear wheels 2 inches smaller and keep tire diameter.
My buddy had a 93 lx that ran that on a 100% stock engine with a 5 speed and 4:10 gears. If you put 3:73 in it you may be in the low 13’s or high 12’s. Just saying
turbo kit on stock motor best bang for the buck...i got 306 with stock heads, tfs 2 cam, trick flow street heat with 75tb runs on e85..16/17psi later it about 650-675rwhp
the same motor before turbo and had 65mm tb and not on e85 ran 13.2@108-109
I run the same plate( EGR removed). I run the cruise with it
They both sound great! I haven't owned a Mustang from this era since 1996 when I sold My '90 GT!
