The first game you reviewed, wrestlemania broke this poor little kid’s heart. When I was a little kid, we were dirt poor, but I loved wrestling like nothing else in this world. To my surprise, my mom had saved enough money and bought me the wrestlemania game. After about five minutes of playing that game I knew it was easily the worst video game I had ever played in my life. That was my one birthday gift, and it was awful.
I feel you brother as Hogan would say lol. Man I had the same experience almost with Rambo. Saved up all my birthday and Christmas money and bought it and was bummed out. Unless your local rental place had it the only thing I had to go by was pics on the box. Assed out lol
WCW Wrestling was the best of the federation licensed games, but it still had one huge frustration for me, and that's how the final boss was basically a giant that you had to kick, punch and do running attacks on until you win, because he was so big any grappling attack automatically failed, no matter how hurt he was.
One thing you can't capture is the window of time these games came out. The first game was the only game we had. It was awesome and also frustrating. I remember sleepovers, staying up all night going back and forth in this game. It was awesome. As far as Pro Wrestling goes.... that game was a game a few friends owned. It was something we played every weekend. We learned all the tricks. What an awesome game.
I got excited as soon as I saw Pro Wrestling at 2. Not enough people know about Tecmo World Wrestling. It's such a fantastic game, too. Great controls. Catchy music. Varied moves. It even has commentary. Dr. Guildo was always my favorite. However, I will note that the cutscenes get kind of old after awhile. It's probably the only criticism I have of the game. I don't need to see the goddamn Giant Swing cutscene in triplicate each and every single time I perform it, guys.
LOL.. I totally agree Dr. Guildo Swing did get old after a while, even to the point where I would stop doing it just so i didn't have to watch the cut scene animation.
The first Two Wrestlemania and Challenge was actually made by RARE aka RAREWARE the SNES and N64 goat that made Donkey Kong Country series even the WWF music was made by David Wise !!
On Steel Cage Challenge, I don't think that was Mean Gene Okerlund. It looked more like Howard Finkel, and would make more sense since he was the ring announcer at the time.
@@RudetunasArcade Thanks. Great video! I agree with many of your assessments. I have a vivid memory of renting M.U.S.C.L.E. at a local hobby shop, the one place I could rent NES cartridges.
I can’t deny the game is shit, but NES Wrestlemania (and Nintendo Power’s coverage of it) is what got me into watching wrestling. Earlier this year I got pictures taken with Ted Dibiase and Honky Tonk Man along with my original game cart…if someone had told me back in 1989 that would happen, I’d have called them crazy :D The game is also responsible for my fascination with wrestling entrance music, since I wanted to hear what the game music sounded like IRL. Now I’ve been collecting entrance music ever since I discovered the internet (25 years ago).
That's an awesome journey. Sometimes things happen for a reason. Some bad games can even hold a special place in our hearts, one of mines are Seicross for the NES. A terrible game but great memories.
Pro Wrestling is my favourite! I never knew that Kin Corn Karn's kicks and punches did more damage, to the effect that you can perform the Brain Buster or Pile Driver earlier! I never really used him because I found the timing of those punches and kicks to be clunky (same with Fighter Hayabusa's Back Brain Kick). King Slender was my guy because I liked his move set most! I also beat the game with Giant Panther first. I like how each character has some unique moves, even if they replace others like the Back Drop or Pile Driver.
Yeah Kin Corn Karn was often over looked. That is pretty impressive to beat great Puma with Giant Panther. Good job. The variety of moves for that game was amazing.
