I want to make some sort of suburban vignette for it, probably with an asphalt road and a piece of cinderblock and concrete building :) Unfortunately, the figure selection in 1/48 is very limited, non-existent for Syrian crewmen :(
Yup I'm building a specific one (somewhat) without anything on the sides. Gives it a more unique appearance since I already did a fully "caged" T-72 before RUclips :)
Doing each model as a single video and posting once in a blue moon would be far less work with WAY more views, but I don't want to go that route since it's become a Friday show for so many of you :)
I'm really glad I found your channel a few months back. My grandfather loved building models, especially with my father when he was young. My grandfather and I never built any models together but I did find him picking up modeling magazines from the library. When I found this channel, we watched some of videos together and he seemed to really enjoy it. He passed a couple months ago from lung cancer. Now, every time I am watching your channel, I find myself thinking of him and how he would enjoy each new video. Thanks for your passion driven content. I'm glad I got to enjoy it with him.
On the subject of camo. In the British army, they basically give the job of painting the camo on vehicles to bored squadies. "Go get some paint from stores, and paint those Land Rovers/Tanks" I've bought several Ex Army vehicles from British Army auctions over the last 20 years, and can testify that the paint is thrown on. Layer after layer after layer, over years. It's chipped, messy lines, thick in places, thin in others. Absolute nightmare to get back to bare metal when I finally get them. So if you want genuine looking camo, doing it absolutely perfect is not authentic. Imagine a couple of bored soldiers painting it on (with a brush), and you're closer to the truth.
I love that. If anyone ever asks why my models are badly painted, I'll point out that its historically accurate. Anyone know if you can get scale paint cans and paint rollers? :D
I think what fascinates me is the ability of certain artists to make us forget how cruel and violent the world around us is. Even if it's about torturing acrylic paint using chipping fluid and post-shading! Bravo my dear friend! I love your work!
That looks insanely good! Thank you for this mini series because I've always been interested in that old Syrian model you had with the same cage and now we can see how you made it. Keep up the great work!
To je jeden z prvních modelářu u kterého vidím dělat správně opotřebení a rez, to znamená škrabání a tupování ještě "živé" barvy, takto se to má dělat a ne to barvit!
I've always wanted to model several field modified armour subjects from the Syrian war but I lacked the confidence to try and after watching your videos I'm going to go for it. Thank you Martin for the inspiration to challenge myself and develop new skills/techniques and push myself outside my comfort zone. The T-55 looks amazing sir!!!
So so so good, it’s not only technically, it’s very sensible and artistic, and also, we can feel your work also like an engineer, you understand so well structure, nature, historical context, and also physiological about men, workers, soldiers, etc.. for me the best work in the world... thank you for sharing
I think my favorite think about your work Martin is that you just go for different techniques and don't stick to a regimented routine. This is what makes your work art. Respect.
Your channel is a way to focus on something that is able to allow us to forget the real world! Thanks so much my dear friend. Your work and you voice are calming me !
Marvelous. My eyes fought the yellow till you pushed it around. But that brown...I love it as it is. A handsome rust finish that would look great on some 1949 Desoto kit especially if it had some texture and very faint bluing here and there. After all, those things were weapons...it could easily be used with dry brush to simulate leather too.
How's your leg bro? What did you do that with downhilling MTB/UCI mountain biking? I do that myself been really into the street trials this past year and my modelling! I smashed my collar bone in 3 bits and dislocated my shoulder twice on my bike lol not done a leg yet touch wood! Hope your aryt mate and got plenty kit's in the stash lol!
Looking great! I use the regular Vallejo Model paints through an airbrush on occasion. You have to get the thinner/paint ratio right and it helps to use the retarder. It dries pretty quickly at the tip otherwise.
My ex is slovak and she’d always tell me about certain things you guys do better than England. After finding your channel, modelling is another thing added to the list.
no one: me: my favorite thing about uncle nightshift is how happy he seems during his videos.. almost like an uncle wanting to show his nephews something new and exicting.
Ah, le Trappist Bleu. I would like to say I have fond memories of its consumption while watching classic bike racing in Belgium - but unfortunately I have no memories of the entire weekend ...
Chipping is by far my favorite step,I learned it all from these videos, but I always use a brush for chipping . My first, and only hairspray attempt was a miserable failure!
Great work, really interesting subject 👍 For me, I prefer hairspray for chipping, I can get more subtle effects. Also, not a big fan of Mig products, just much cheaper, and equally effective, alternatives. Thanks for the video!
Man... trying to find Mr Surfacer is a real challenge these days! It's like gold dust (and probably costs similar...) And add into that I live in Northern Ireland with its UK/EU customs nightmare. Real fun.
Hey Uncle, I think the brick model is too perfect, we have those kind of bricks here and they tend to break down easily if handled roughly, but as a building material they're great because they're cheap and kinda sturdy once put together.
Yeah, I should've added a few dings and most importantly, texture. The plan was that these are not from a ruined building, just a random pile of bricks they stacked behind the cage. I've actually added rubble on the tank and it all looks more tied together now, but yeah... I should've invested more time into those!
Love these vids, hope you’re doing fine, keep it up, and also, I recommend making a discord server to let your fans speak/communicate to you, remember me when you see me next video in the comments section!
Whenever uncle nightshift says “don’t just collect kits” I feel like he’s talking directly to me. I’ll get to them … eventually… 😭😭😭
Send them to uncle nightshift lol
@Svannuta if help means getting rid of them, then I’m open to helping 😂
I feel personally attacked
@Svannuta I've only got 3!!! (I do have several armies worth of Warhammer to get to though... 😢)
Haha, but it makes me happy to see some people are watching the video all the way to the end! :)
Beautiful, suggestion for diorama, Iraqi house with this parked outside with the crew on a break. Your work is most excellent,
A nice blanket and some guys sipping tea would look great.
Tank parked ontop of a crushed civilian hatchback

Middle east Diorama incoming?🤔
Jup we don't need a cure for cancer WE NEED MIDDLE EAST DIORAMA.. Like an syran city diorama
Lol what...
@Jäger I had a stroke reading that
Can we all just appreciate that this legendary artist is living at the same time as we do?

How Melodramatic
I love the blue sandbags they look like huge bags of candy that the tank crew are keeping just in case
the forbidden snack

Uncle Nightshift- “Don’t use hairspray chipping as a crutch.” Proceeds to chip the entire model with no brush painted chips. Clearly an imposter.
Sus
Idk man, kinda sus
Amogus🌚
Oh no, and I actually wanted to try it on the next model as well... too sus?
@@NightShiftScaleModels how about no chipping challenge?
This tank needs something on the sides, either rubber skirts like on some Serbian tanks or maybe metal bed frame
He said hes basing this tank off a specific one, its likely the one hes taking inspiration from doesnt have any type of skirting
I'd like to see him do some yugoslav war inspired T55
Yup I'm building a specific one (somewhat) without anything on the sides. Gives it a more unique appearance since I already did a fully "caged" T-72 before RUclips :)
Always amazing painting. No longer, it doesn't looks like 1/48 scale model too.
The fact that you can make these videos on a weekly basis shows your dedication to the viewers. Respect👊
and his craft, being able to explain what hes doing, why, and doing it on a weekly basis, plus being able to tell that's he enjoys making models

Hmm. Not pre paint, but I was struck by the shot of the turret at 1:53 when in primer. It looked awesome, to my eyes 😆
