    A small correcton: Puma passed its combat readiness test with the Puma VJTF/S1 "upgrade" in 2020/2021.
    The cameras are thermal imagers and color cameras, the problem in the initial production Pumas (first batch) is, that highly durable, heat and frost resistant (mil spec) flat touch screens with high resolution were not availible (not developed yet) at the start of production, so they took black and white screens wich were availible.
    The screens are replaced on the VJTF/S1 upgrade with color screens.

    Uncle Night Shift, those rubber mats (from 1;50 min) are actually tiny metal bars to prevent penetration of the main armor from shaped charges from cluster bombs. They may have a rubber mat underneath, but the protruding bars are metal. The same armor is on the Panzehaubize 2000.
    One more thing, Puma is in active service of the Bundeswehr in the total number of about 350 units. And it is constantly being upgraded, it's like Panzer 4 and it's versions, ausf A, B, C and so on. You can say, that Puma is something like ausf B, or Mk 2.
    I hope I helped. :)

    Wow, an ultramodern model, yet another large step outside your comfort zone. What’s next, a submarine? 😊
    Seriously, the amount of surface detail is quite amazing. I mean, yeah, it’s basically a brick, but it has details at so many different size levels that it almost looks like a 3D fractal.
    I’m reminded of the first few Bolo stories that I read when they were first published (yes, I’m old). Based on what I knew of tanks (from building models) in those days I imagined Bolos as gigantic simple smooth slabs of iodine colored alloy with tubular Hellbores sticking out, with no particular surface detail. Now I realize that they would have to be covered in various functional greeblies just like the Puma is.
    So if it’s okay with you, I’m going to pretend that the kit actually represents an early experimental Mark of Bolo.

    Just watched the first minute and allready feel the need to put some things in the right light.
    1. Puma is not an APC (battlefield taxi like the M113 or MTLB) but an IFV.
    2. It's not a prototype anymore. Germany has the first lots in active service. There are constant upgrades to make them fit NATO standards (Puma VJTF) and constant technical problems but this comes as troops are using them regularly.

    • @JJ-M
      @JJ-M Год назад +4

      Pretty fair to miss those, Puma's are fairly low in number for active service (so far, that's changing right now), and Martin's a historical modeler so the nuance of what makes an APC an APC versus an IFV is a bit far gone from the tigers and T-34s that is the usual fair. Isn't even truly something that is gotten right more often than it's gotten wrong, tbqh.

    • @cupcakewrx3476
      @cupcakewrx3476 Год назад +2

      @@JJ-M No offence. just wanted to put this a little more in the right direction. But again a little correction in term s of numbers. As of now 350 of them have been delivered. Given the size of the Bundeswehr now, this is neither just a low number nor insignifiant. Also this is not changing atm, as you pointed out. A second batch of 50 Pumas was initially ordered but the order was halted, when some problems occured which in hindsight have shown to be largely caused by soldiers not being qualified enough to handle equiment as suffisticated as the Puma.

    • @JJ-M
      @JJ-M Год назад

      @@cupcakewrx3476 My apologies, a bit used to seeing the US force structure numbers in modern terms, and, ah, must have missed the halting of the order, happens.
      Appreciate the correction though! Don't want to leave anyone with incorrect impressions of it, even if it's relatively unlikely.

    • @zhufortheimpaler4041
      @zhufortheimpaler4041 Год назад +1

      @@JJ-M you have to consider that the US military is vastly larger than the Bundeswehr.
      Just the Army is double the size of the whole german armed forces.
      This is due to the CFE Treaty (Conventional Forces in Europe) wich drasticly limited heavy weapon stocks of european armed forces (like upper limits for NATO MBT Fleets etc) but also due to the extra paragraph in the 2+4 Treaty (german reunificaton) for wich the british and polish governments pushed, wich limits the total size of the german military to 370k Men including reservists from 1994 onwards.
      Both treaties crippled german defense capabilities and reduced it from the second largest NATO Military behind the USA in 1991 (with several hundret thousand men more than the next largest ones - possibly up to 750k active serving soldiers) to a below average european military in 1998.

    I think that special armour texture surfacer is an adaptation of what is used in cosmetic fingernail extension, so a base of acetone is put down and the filler (what is the filler, possibly granules of a resin?) is sprinkled over it to form something that can then be sanded down to make a strong fingernail extension.

One of the two companies that developed it did recently also finish the development of a new "Panther", the KF51. I hope that we're going to see a build of that one too at some point ;) Even though old armour always is a bit more interesting for some reason...

    • @zhufortheimpaler4041

      KF-51 is NOT a brand new tank, its an conversion/upgrade of Leopard 2 on basis on the 2A4 Version. And its about as far from production as Abrams X. (meaning in the mid 2030s we might see one in service, but not earlier)
      Due to patent and copyright claims of KMW on the Leopard 2, Rheinmetall has to fully redesgn the chassis, drivetrain etc

Soldering is pretty easy too: fix the piece together (clamps, tape, etc), pre-heat the PE for about 3 seconds, add the solder and move it along the seam with the iron.
