Electric driven vehicles may go better in flooded roads, because the batteries weigh them down by an additional one thousand pounds. And that helps explain the loss in tire life by 50%.
Not true for both. Tesla Model 3 weighs about the same as the current generation BMW 3 series, maybe 100kg more - the weight of an extra passenger. Secondly, I haven't noticed any increased tire wear on my Model 3 compared to the BMWs before (and those were 200-300kg lighter than the modern BMW). If you play the "Traffic Lights Rally" - then you probably could wear down your tires quicker. But the same is even more true for a gas car. In fact, Tesla will prevent any wheelspin, even if you go completely pedal to the metal - so it's not that easy to wear tires. And back to the weight - I also can't believe how big and how heavy cars are becoming. But that's an unfortunate trend, and it's not EV's fault - it was already happening long before them.
I doubt it. When you go through this quick, it's unlikely that any of the seals are affected. Standing still in a flood for hours or days is very different.

The biggest problem with electric cars driving through deep water quickly... is that it could lead to your car being written off/destroyed by battery failure/thermal runaway.
And they are better at keeping warm/cool while you are shopping. Oh and they are better at accelerating. Oh yes, they are better at sitting in a car wash with all your electrics on. That's about it I guess, Oh no, they are also better for sleeping in with the climate controls on and sitting in a traffic jam in a tunnel. That's it for sure. Oh, I forgot, they are also better at costing practically nothing in "fuel" if you can charge from home. And another thing I keep forgetting, they are better for rear passengers because there is no stupid hump in the back. Some of them are better at powering things so they can act like an enormous extension lead. Oh yes, and they start better in the winter. etc etc etc etc
Just did this this morning, motorway to Belfast flooded..( of course, when I go through the road ahead was completely empty except for trucks and a range rover 😅
A quick immersion and dry-out should be manageable for EVs, if they are designed for it, but we don't know what the long term damage is, and longer immersion videos show Teslas catching fire underwater.
Salt water... Thats the biggest problem. Rain water should be the smallest. But this dirty water cant be good at all. All EV batterys are vented for letting in and out pressure. Meaning they are really not waterproof. They are water resistant against normal use.
They can drive off for now, but the next owners are in for one hell of a ride. These are not "hermetically sealed" as the owners will tell you, based on zero evidence or research. Everything has breathers, and some water will get in. Not likely to cause the current person leasing it any issues though.
Yet they can drive down a motorway in torrential rain with massive spray with no issue. I had my last EV for 6 years through floods, snow, slush with no issues.
@@jimf4748 so can every ICE car, driving through deep water like this is totally different to even the heaviest of downpours. Take a jet engine for example. It has to be able to ingest huge amounts of rain and run perfectly. But run submerged?
Meanwhile, a Scottish couple claims their battery failed driving their Tesla in the rain and their warranty claim was denied. I wouldn't count on the battery being that well sealed.
I wonder how many of these teslas are still driving with all that corrosion from the water, how many of them have burned down or needed a new battery pack?

The cars themselves or the drivers of the cars? The cars are definitely getting there! Can't wait until my car is driving me around, while I recline and relax knowing it's way safer than any human could ever be.
They are going a bit more steadily than the average driver, but it's also really easy to control speed when going slowly so it's easy to set up a bow wave without stalling. The shape of the front of the car also helps, it leans forward a bit rather than sloping back.
Water drag and resistance. Anything thats not well secured and or gets exposed to too much force gets ripped off. See some of the other Rufford Ford vids, they collected piles of car parts over time.
There are two major advantages for electric cars in such situations. One is that they do not require air. In an internal combustion engine, when water enters, the incompressibility of water causes the connecting rods to bend, rendering the engine useless. Another advantage of electric cars is that they have much better traction in deep water because they don't float due to their higher average density in water. Due to their weight relative to size, they have better traction and are not as easily swept away by water, as often seen with internal combustion engines that are very light compared to their size.
@@reuven2010 There was a guy who weighted down his tesla model s plaid and drove it under water. see "tesla submarine". It did cause a lot of reed warning lights but it made it through.

Going to be a lot of batteries stuffed due to water damage.....
I doubt it. When you go through this quick, it's unlikely that any of the seals are affected. Standing still in a flood for hours or days is very different.
You hope.

Thank god the muffler didn't backfire and kill the engine. Thanks goodness the distributor cap stayed dry. I'm surprised there wasn't an oily sheen created in the car wake. Did the frunk get wet? Imagine how many would have to push the Tesla out if the deep puddle if it quits.

Great video, my wife asked if we buy a tesla can we go to the walking tracks where we have to go through small streams to get there, this answered the question. Cheers

The biggest problem with electric cars driving through deep water quickly... is that it could lead to your car being written off/destroyed by battery failure/thermal runaway.
Same with an ICE car. Drove through a 10cm puddle and that killed the headlights on my BMW, 800€ for 2 new parts, thx....
Instead of definitely being written off by being aqua locked.
Imagine hating on EVs with reasons that don't make sense
They using paper clips to hold the license plate?
Nah they are using rubber bands to hold the license plate
This about the only thing EVs are any better at
And they are better at keeping warm/cool while you are shopping.
The British have money for Tesla and Range rovers but can’t afford a simple bridge to avoid the floods
lithium and water... tinyest drop is enought to make chainreaction to burn everything. Batterybox is not 100% waterproof.
there is no raw and open lithium. Inside the battery case can be condensation, should not, but does happen and is no issue

Very well insulated. Short drives though water like this is no problem.

Just did this this morning, motorway to Belfast flooded..( of course, when I go through the road ahead was completely empty except for trucks and a range rover 😅
And not one drowned ignition system! 👍 😜
Exact. Its Electric. Water is not good for that....
@@TimMSUK An engine needs oxygen so submerging an engine would totally screw it up lol. An ev doesn't suck in or use oxygen. So water means nothing.
@@outbackroosters4631 Exactly! This is why deep sea submarines are all gas powered and never use batteries or electric motors!
Meanwhile, a Scottish couple claims their battery failed driving their Tesla in the rain and their warranty claim was denied. I wouldn't count on the battery being that well sealed.
They were in a flood area. Their car was probably caught parked in a flooded area.
you should post more like this 👁️👁️
No more warranty....haha!
So, the most popular colour for a Tesla is white. Today I learnt something 😉
You pay extra for different colours.

I wonder how many of these teslas are still driving with all that corrosion from the water, how many of them have burned down or needed a new battery pack?

Most cars with flat front panels have their license plates attached the same way per regulation. Any car would lose it.

Some nice bow waves from those Tesla's. Are they smarter than the average driver ?
The cars themselves or the drivers of the cars? The cars are definitely getting there! Can't wait until my car is driving me around, while I recline and relax knowing it's way safer than any human could ever be.
They are going a bit more steadily than the average driver, but it's also really easy to control speed when going slowly so it's easy to set up a bow wave without stalling. The shape of the front of the car also helps, it leans forward a bit rather than sloping back.
No, they bought an EV 😂
Yes its been tested to float across too

There are two major advantages for electric cars in such situations. One is that they do not require air. In an internal combustion engine, when water enters, the incompressibility of water causes the connecting rods to bend, rendering the engine useless. Another advantage of electric cars is that they have much better traction in deep water because they don't float due to their higher average density in water. Due to their weight relative to size, they have better traction and are not as easily swept away by water, as often seen with internal combustion engines that are very light compared to their size.
that being said, I wonder just how deep will a tesla be able to take
@@reuven2010 There was a guy who weighted down his tesla model s plaid and drove it under water. see "tesla submarine". It did cause a lot of reed warning lights but it made it through. It did eventually cause major problems months later. The water was actually over the roof. A unweighted car would have floated and probably been less damaged. Cyber truck has wade mode that pressurizes the battery and can take 3ft of water for up to 30 minutes.

Its not the here and the now with any cars . Its what happens tomorrow or the day after . or the years after the flood water has seaped slowly into the car electric circuitry the sensors on the car will fail , the brake sensors , the seals will be severely tested that stop the water getting into the battery box ...believe me , they will prematurely fail and results will be catastrophic but not just yet . Maybe when some innocent owner has just bought the car say when its 5 years old and then we shal see just how good the wretched EV really is .
