Never seen such a neat compilation of what the faction’s of AOS are about. I especially like how Fantasy is left out of these videos and that it’s just about AOS.
as someone who massively enjoys warhammer fantasy lore and finds it difficult to find good lore videos on AOS (don't worry i dislike the endtimes but i do not want AOS to vanish), I really enjoyed this video.
@@riokollivier I mean i learned of fantasy post endtimes, so I don't have the baggage the players of the game have, but even then I would propably not wish other people to go through a similar thing just because they like what replaced it. And besides, though fantasy will always be my favorite a new setting means more lore for me, plus lord Kroak and the Children of the Gods (Old Ones) have become somehow even more awesome than they previously were

I think one thing that's important to remember in Age of Sigmar is that unlike Warhammer Fantasy (and to a lesser extent 40k), Chaos winning does not mean blowing up the world. In those other settings the fact that Chaos is an existential threat to all reality means those who stand against it are, de facto, the good guys. They may not be good guys, but they are the good guys. In AoS Chaos has already won once, and indeed most of the setting is still under Chaos control. Yes, the daemons are objectively evil, but most of Chaos are just ordinary people. In fact, what we see in many stories is that the Chaos daemons, born of and drawn to mortal sin, act as a regulating force - if a local warlord decides to tax his people to the point of starvation to feed his own depravities, chances are he's going to attract the attention of a Keeper of Secrets, and that will be the last thing he ever does. As such, Chaos represents this tribal way of living where strength and piety to the dark gods is king, but one in which millions of people live ordinary lives. In contrast, Order represents rigid hierarchies, with god-rulers at the top wielding absolute power for their own whims. From murder-cults designed to empower their mistress to an entire race of beings almost exterminated because their creator thought they were imperfect to a the souls of heroes plucked from their well deserved resting places to fight eternally in Sigmar's name, slowly losing their very self in the process, everything about Order is based around absolute devotion to the hierarchy and the god at the top of it. Perhaps the best metaphor for this is the Dawnbringer Crusades; when they go out to found new cities they don't have a group of settlers who find somewhere and slowly build up, no, they have giant floating prefab cities that they take with them and plop down at strategic points, often entirely at odds with the geography around them. They're literally enforcing their rigid will on the world and destroying anything that gets in their way, and that is the ultimate expression of what GA Order stands for.

@@krism.6598 the Maggotkin etc are not representative of the vast majority of people in the Mortal Realms. Most of them are much closer to the Darkoath.
The only reason many (maybe even most) people in the Realms worship chaos is because that’s all they had after Sigmar left to work on his pet project. The chaos gods themselves aren’t in any way the “good guys”, nor are they sympathetic, they are evil and represent the corrupted extremes of otherwise good things, that’s why they are so dangerous. But you are right that many people who follow under chaos (that aren’t part of the more extreme cults like the Blades or the Maggotkin) aren’t really evil themselves.

That said, most people living under GA Chaos don't conceptualise the Chaos gods in the same way that we understand them, and it's perfectly possible that their Raven God or whatever idea of Tzeentch they worship is not the force of pure evil we know him to be. Personally though I've never really bought the idea that Chaos represents virtues taken to extremes. Rather, they are manifestations of chaotic and destructive emotions, rage, ambition, despair and depravity (and rats, I guess?), no more extreme than the most devoted followers of Sigmar, Nagash, Gorkamorka or any of the others. Although that said I think it's important to make the distinction between Chaos in Fantasy/AoS (as of now still the same continuity) and Chaos in 40k. While in the latter the Chaos gods are born out of the emotions of sentient creatures, in the former it is very, very strongly suggested that these are entities which existed before the Old Ones created most of the mortals we know today. While they certainly seek to and are empowered by the corruption of mortals, it's possible that the actual gods themselves are something more than that.

GUYS!!! Do you have any reading order on the age of sigmar books? Was kinda bit salty about the end times, but after seeing a few videos of AOS i wanna give it a try.
Hmmm it's a bit tricky since AoS isn't doninated by a single faction or storyline like with 30/40k, so i'd really just recommend looking at what factions you like and reading some of their books. In general I'd say Realmslayer/The ___slayer series is a good general pick if you're coming from fantasy since it does a lot of worldbuilding and explaining the setting if you're unfamiliar with it, but outside of that it's really just a case of whatever suits you best.
I can recommend Prince Maesa, has a nice mythological hero angle, with said prince trekking across multiple realms and cool locations to try and resurrect his wife
