Me and my dad were stood on hill top right where that happened. I was about 13. One of my best Oulton Park memories. He died last year and we had his ashes spread at lodge corner.
I had the VHS season review for the '99 season when I was I kid. I bloody loved John Watson and Charlie Cox's commentary. Some of the shit Charlie would come out with was hilarious! 'It looks like an entrant in the Grand National not a race car' 😂😂😂
Although yes, Thompson clearly pushed Plato off. I can't remember seeing a more blatant incident of that happening!
(Edit: Except Senna yeeting Prost into another dimension at Suzuka '90... Don't know how I forgot that one 👀)
It's strange they never used Leslie's in car camera to show Thompson pushing plato off, it was obviously deliberate 😂
Everyone knew it was, JT lost his rag with plato and you didnt see that often
Btcc is a shadow of itself now compared to this, 2023 season i have watched just doesn't have that energy it had, and that's going off a few years ago. The Hybrid thing isn't working for me sadly. Bring back the ballast
Plato ran into the back of Jimmy (not the first time either) and shoved him into David Leslie then aimed to bulldoze past the both of them on the inside and Thompson finally blew a fuse and just rammed Plato off the road. After this happened even years later in different cars you rarely saw Plato hit or shove Thompson ever again - because he knew what the price would be.... potentially very painful.
Rather convenient that his memory goes blank on what happened during the part where he rammed Plato off the track...
Those to had a fight ones at Brands Hatch Indy in 1997 Champship James Thompson and Jason Plato
